#ProudToLove and proud to celebrate marriage equality
Friday, June 26, 2015
Over the last 10 years, everyone from
moms
to
presidents
have uploaded videos in support of LGBT awareness, to stand up against bullying and discrimination, and to say together, as a community, that marriage equality matters.
That’s why we are so excited by the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today guaranteeing same-sex couples nationwide the right to marry. In recognition of Pride Month, and of this historic decision, we want to celebrate the many individuals and communities that have helped inspire change:
YouTube has given creators like
Tyler Oakley
and
Jazz Jennings
, to entertainers like
Ellen DeGeneres
and
Todrick Hall
, a platform to entertain and inspire, while raising LGBT awareness in society as a whole. Thanks to creators and fans alike, YouTube has become a home to
coming out videos
and
transitioning videos
, a place where people can share
advice
, find a community, or encourage
activism
. Together, these videos help us see our common humanity in the faces and voices of those we might otherwise perceive as different.
So today, we say “thank you” to all of those who were brave enough to show us that it really can, and does,
get better
—and how much better it still can get.

We’re #ProudToLove the LGBT community on YouTube
Thursday, June 27, 2013
Since our first upload, YouTube has strived to give everyone a voice. Over the past eight years, we’ve been inspired and amazed by the ways that people have used YouTube to broadcast their message, empower their community, and even catalyze social change.
The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community on YouTube is a shining example of this. YouTube is a place where LGBT people and their families, friends and supporters can
create awesome entertainment
,
share stories
, and
change the world
.
From the
hilarious
to the
heartfelt
, our creators know how to make an impact. Check out
this new video
highlighting some of the amazing ways the LGBT community has come together on YouTube:
In time for a series of Pride parades and celebrations around the world, YouTube celebrates this historic Pride Month by showcasing a great collection of LGBT-themed videos on the
YouTube Spotlight channel
. We hope you’ll join in the global spirit of Pride by uploading a video to YouTube responding to the question: Who, what, or why are you #ProudToLove? (Please be sure to include #ProudToLove in the title so others can find your video!)
At YouTube, we’re proud to stand with the LGBT community to support equal rights and marriage equality--we believe that everyone has the right to love and be loved. Pride Month may be coming to a close, but we hope YouTube is a place where you can feel proud and build a community all year long.
