Connecting a Google Account to your older YouTube account

2010年7月13日火曜日

YouTube usernames themselves aren’t going anywhere. No matter when you signed up for YouTube, or if you’re currently associated with a Google Account, you’ll still be “LifeOfTheParty29” (aka “your username”) on YouTube.

A Google Account is not necessarily a Gmail account. You can create a Google Account with any email address through many different Google products, just like you can create a Twitter or Facebook account with any email address. Of course, you can choose to use Gmail as the email address for your Google Account.

Connecting your existing YouTube username to an existing Google Account doesn’t start sharing your YouTube activity to your Buzz followers; it’s only an account connection behind the scenes, and it’s still up to you to decide whether or not to bring YouTube into the rest of your Google life.

Improved account security. The Google Account system is robust and will help reduce spam across the site; users will get a slew of security and safety features that Google has spent the past decade developing.

A single account system. This may not mean much to anyone outside of the YouTube engineering team, but behind the scenes it’s extremely complicated to support two different account systems. Having all users on the same account system not only simplifies matters, but more important, it makes it much easier to use Google technologies to keep the site running smoothly (over two billion views a day and counting), as well as introduce new functionality.

Community Guidelines: This is our description of what is and isn’t allowed on the site. You should read these Guidelines before you post content, or if you see something that you think maybe shouldn’t be on YouTube.

Flagging: If you see something that you think violates our Community Guidelines, flag it! The flag icon is located below the video player. When flagging a video be sure to let us know which of our policies you think the video violates and we’ll review it.

Safety Mode: A setting that you can opt in to that will filter out content that may be inappropriate for sensitive users and teens. This setting reduces your chances of stumbling across content that you may not want to see.

Unlisted Videos: These videos don’t appear in search results and only people who have the video's link can view them. Unlike private sharing, there’s no limit to the number of people who can view unlisted videos.

Help & Safety Tool: A tool that allows you to report privacy violations, block users and report harassment and bullying anonymously.

The YouTube Help Forum is nearly entirely community-powered. In it, users answer each other's questions, share tips, and discuss the best ways to use the site and make videos. The system works pretty well: 78% of questions receive a response within three hours.

While there are a lot of helpful folks in the forum, we'd like to take a second to commend a group of exceptionally engaged and active users whom we've dubbed "the PowerPosters." They are: anmoose, battlefielddoktor, ebbixx, epontius, happycabbie, kohpelord, and rewboss. These folks are usually the first to offer advice, to set the record straight, or even just to provide a friendly word to other users looking for support. They've devoted tons of their personal time and boundless amounts of energy toward assisting users all over the world; they've helped to escalate about 250 site issues and contributed 5 tutorial videos to our Help Center. Sincere thanks to the PowerPosters for all they've done for our community and the betterment of the site.

So, if you're having trouble uploading, need video formatting advice, or wonder how to participate in AutoShare, we invite you to stop by the YouTube Help Forum and post your question. While you're there, see how you can make a difference by participating as well. Who knows, you could be the next PowerPoster.
