While it's a nice welcome feature, the issue is that it only changes your display name, not the url. So poor joey samson still has to use joeysam87 in his web url when he would probably like to change that as well (if a name is available).

I would be a lot more interested in tying Google+ videos and YouTube together. It is insanely stupid that a video I upload in Picasa or Google+ is completely disconnected from YouTube, even though it is plainly obvious they are using the same hosting and even player for the videos. I often have to upload the same video to both services as a result.

"Stay tuned for more ways to use this username in other Google products and services in coming months." This is the most important part to me. I'd love to have my YouTube username in my Google+ URL instead of 103883629881537445469.

This makes it more important than ever that we can have multiple channels under one email address. e.g. If someone has a makeup tutorial channel and a motorbike maintenance channel under different email addresses.

Sure this seems nice, and might be good for search, but what's the point if you can't change the actual username associated with your account? If cutepuppies99 has outgrown his username, he's still youtube.com/cutepuppies99 even if he changes the display name. While it's an improvement, it still doesn't allow people to move on from an old username.

Ok, good to know, but: I created a Google+ Profile back when it still was closed beta and I have gained by now around 2000 followers. The question is: Will this profile be connectable to YouTube even though the connected Google Accounts are different?
The problem is: If not, one had to first build up a now audience for a newly created G+ profile (or page) OR when creating a new channel, to build a new audience on YouTube. Both not good alternatives.
So it was way better for us if we
    a) could make those old Google+ Profiles pages where we can set the YouTubes Google Account the one administrating it so the page can be connected to YouTube or
    b) if any Google+ Profile (no matter what Google-Account it is connected to) could be connected to YouTube
or c) be able to make existing Plus Profiles into Pages and connect them with existing YouTube-Channels, no matter the connected Google+ Account was used to create it originally (a mixture of a and b).

Whil I assume b) was the easiest to do for you, I'd prefer version c). But no matter what, it is annoying that I cannot connect my well known Google+ profile with my YouTube-Channel.

One more thing (regarding this blog in general): I'd like to subscribe to the feed via email (as possible with other google blogs like the creators.blogspot.com). Unfortunately the "via" email option is not availble. So I (and probably a lot of other people) would appreciate, if you made the feed available via email as well. Thanks in advance for the support.

If you would rather rid yourself of your old URL and username, you can simply delete your YouTube account. This will delete everything you've ever done on YouTube though. Then you can use your Google account to enable YouTube again at which point you'll have the option of linking your Google+ profile. Unfortunately, if you'd like to change your username and url, you have to delete everything (in your current account) on YouTube and start over fresh.

I'm interested to understand this a bit better. So the DEFAULT is that IRL names will be shown unless we opt out and choose to continue using our YouTube handles?

I've been on Youtube for four years as a creator, and seen and heard everything from relentless stalkers lodging false legal claims, harassing vloggers at work and getting more than one vlogger I know fired, even one case where 4 channers found out a YouTuber's name and where they lived and had a SWAT team sent to their house.

The gives the average YouTuber a heightened sense of sensitivity to privacy issues over regular G Plussers.

Most fellow YouTubers I socialize with go to a lot of trouble to keep their online presence up in a safe manner. It is only going to take one case of someone's real name displaying all over their YouTube videos (particularly female vloggers) and you are going to get pretty serious consequences and outcry.

Which isn't to say I'm not all for the option to choose to use your IRL name. But given the kind of 4channish community around YouTube that has made YouTube so successful, I do hope that Google is thinking about transitioning creators through this in a manner that prioritizes user safety and choice. I understand that the end game of this is to move all users toward real world identities in order to improve the tone of comments and discussion (the same way that using facebook commenting has improved the tone on some blogs) but as a creator, I hope this doesn't lead to a situation where the creators are put in an even more vulnerable position first.

Anyway, will be interesting to see the reaction from the community to this.

I like the integration, but as Eric says above, what about those of us with multiple accounts? :( I have my G+ profile associated with one email (also associated with a YouTube account), and then my PERSONAL YouTube account (which would probably make more sense to associate with my name) uses a different email. Will there be a way to assign multiple YouTube accounts to one G+ identity?

From what I am reading on the net, when google did this it wasn't a popular idea and could put people in danger or cause a job loss, or other problems. People know me on youtube by my username, not my real name and I would like to keep it that way. As a Christian I get threats, and attacks as it is. I hope we will not be forced to use our real names on youtube. I would hate to have to close my account but to keep myself and my family safe I would. (I see I can't even post this without my real name being shown. :()

If you try to comment on something it may prompt you to change to username.

Unfortunately it seems if you decline to use your full name it doesn't let you reply to comments on your own videos using your channel name any longer. As my channel is for a business and not personal it's not really an option to change to my full name. There doesn't seem to be an option to link the youtube channel with my G+ business page not my personal one.

I don't like to use the every time the full name. I want to use also nickname or stage name - some peoble know only that and don't know who is the other. Additional there are also some different plattforms (private blog, hobby website, business, ...). For example: I use for Youtube a simular name from my website.

However, what is with people who have two Google Accounts? I have one with my realname for Google+ and one different for Youtube and Feed Reader. There should be a feature to combine both, but it show also after combination different names on Youtube and Google+...

I love the idea of slaying trolls by making people use real names & thus be accountable for what they say. But companies need to be able to use company names.

Also, sometimes anonymity is a security precaution, such as single women or children with YouTube channels. So the anonymity option has to remain.

That said, people who have a rep for trolling should be required to use their real names for at least a while. This will make them more rational and accountable for what they say.

This option does not work for me. I click the link in my settings and it hangs up and does nothing. Also as long as I have a G+ account active the upload link does not work for me. I have tried in 3 different browsers and nothing happens. The only way to fix the upload link is to delete G+ account. This in turn removes the link to use full name. I tried the email form for help and it was no use, the answer I got back was not useful info at all. My other account that I use for other styles of video it all worked fine.

Let me get this straight. Instead of your user name (e.g."94jimi") appearing when one comments at a YouTube site, your real name will appear (Jimi Hendrix)? This would mean that if someone exposed some ugly truth about, say, Islam (not a made-up false lie), radical Muslim extremists would now have your full name + city one lives in??? Can anybody explain if this is true, or am I missing something?

Honestly, I can see the thinking behind this feature, but I would like to present myself as I see fit and they've made it very difficult for me to do anything without practically stripping naked and offering a DNA sample to prove my identity.

Please, Google, quit trying to hide your greed for personal information under the guise of making my life easier. You're not fooling me and you make me sick each time you do it.

YouTube, and Google, please stop asking users repeatedly to display their full names after we already stated we do not want to display full names. This practice of asking users to display their full names repeatedly undermines the privacy expectations of your users, leaving them vulnerable to being traced by criminals and other internet predators. This practice also (in some instances) grants certain Copyright claimants, such as Viacom, accessible knowledge of the individual users on YouTube, enabling the claimants to invasively and illegally seek out individuals for Copyright Infringement. And this practice potentially exposes you, who seeks to display this information, to unanticipated legal liability.

Google/Youtube is out of line pestering users to use their real name. It's okay to ask once, but if I say no, that should be the end of it. You have no right to ask for a reason. And why isn't one of the reasons simply "I want to remain anonymous?"

I'm sincerely disappointed in the sheep who think this is a great idea. I value my privacy, as do most people with any ounce of sense. Why would I ever want everyone who visits my channel to know my first and last name? An alias is a great thing. It allows you to speak your mind without being traced, tracked, and harassed in the real world by anyone you might happen to offend with what's said online. The "alias" exists in chat-rooms, on message boards and forums, and on websites like this for a reason. If you're so happy that this option is now available, then I must ask just why on Earth you didn't sign up using your real name in place of a username to begin with. I've nothing more to say. I will not use my real name and shame on those of you for encouraging Google to continue pushing this on us with near-daily pop-ups.
