I congratulate YouTube on all of your success. I certainly think it's a great site and the partner program has been great for a lot of people. I'm a YouTube partner myself and appreciate the fact that I can make money from making videos. So thank you for the opportunity. The only thing thing I fear is that too many YouTubers are getting unrealistic expectations about what they can earn. And I think corporate YouTube should be careful about getting people's hopes up in terms of what kind of money can be made.
For the absolute biggest YouTube partners, they are clearly making lots of money. And I'm happy to see their success, especially because I have met a number of them and most seem like really good people. But there are many moderately successful YouTubers, who hear these stories about success and think they can make a living off of their YouTube videos. For only a very tiny percentage of people is this a realistic expectation.
For almost all but the most popular YouTube video producers, views per video are down; way down. That is simply because there is so much more supply out there. There is now so much competition on YouTube that even partners with over 100,000 subscribers may get only 10,000 views for each of their videos. These are people who are very successful on YouTube and yet have almost no chance to make a living off the videos.
People should be encouraged to make videos because it's fun to make videos, and the YouTube community is a great place to meet others with similar interests. I hope that this is what you guys will stress to people making YouTube videos. Because I worry that YouTube itself is feeding into the belief that it isn't that difficult to make a decent living from making YouTube videos.
This is GREAT! I love YouTube and all the opportunities it provides those in the digital arts! Please check out my channel to see what I've been up to! Thanks!
Good to see YouTube continuing to invest in the people who make YouTube a site that isn't just laughing babies and water skiing squirrels. The continuing increase in talent flooding YouTube (CC JoeNationTV, ShaneDawsonTV, FreddieW, ScottKinmartinTV, MysteryGuitarMan) is only the start of how social media and YouTube in particular are revolutionizing the entertainment industry. I am so happy to be a part of the early days of YouTube and have been a partner for 3 years now. YouTube and the GoogleTV together are about to change video forever!
This is a fantastic move leveraging a team that can build audience as well as anyone while preserving Youtube's distribution platform prowess. Good news for all. @jmack1985
Great news, sounds like a fantastic initiative to make the quality go up.
I still wish you'd further widen the Partnership countries though. I've had a partnership invitation sitting in on my YouTube page for over a year now, that I can't accept because I have since applying moved back to Denmark (previously Japan), a non-partnership country. It's just a little saddening that I have literally a million views, been accepted to become a partner, but can't :S But since you added Sweden, I hope Denmark isn't to far down the list.
AWESOME! I am a partner and I really hope YouTube will help me and all the other smaller partners succeed! This looks great and I am an excited to see where YouTube could lead to for me. I really hope it can be my career :)
Nice article. I am trying to discuss about the Next New Networks buyout - Is it Good / Bad ? and should Google buy more of such companies? Here's the link : http://blog.ellipsissolutions.com/2011/03/09/next-new-networks-buyout-good-or-bad/
I think YouTube is right in step with the times. Just wish i had a faster upload speed for my videos. What's the cost of living like in South Korea....
It's really time to make Austria a partner country !!! The only explanation I have for this is that in Austria you pay TAX for TV. So maybe they are just being difficult and it's all about money. And no, the system is not the same as in Germany - Look at the ORF and look at German TV channels. Austria is corrupt and the ORF wants to control the market.
All good news! I just hope one of those Partner Meet-ups happens in the north-east at some point soon!
ReplyDeleteNext up, YouTube introduces Live Streaming...What will they think of next? LOL
ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds great!

Thanks again. YouTube is a great site.
I hope that part of this will be them changing the homepage from a long feed back into a neat, organized box.

ReplyDeletePartner program is a joke. The partner program is limited and invite only. I removed all my 800 videos due to that fact.
