This is slowly starting to make sense, uploads/downloads and Live can live together nicely. I like the direction this is going.

Let users do this theirselves on their own channels.
Then they won't have to move away and go onto silly websites like Stickam :)

Really surprised YouTube have not started doing this sooner. I hope I will be able to use this once it goes live or will it be for Partners only?

It would be great if you could develop live statistics from polls or user feedback to be inserted in the live stream. This would allow a new level of interactivity between the viewers and the host.

Google is taking over the world a step at a time. This is the step they are taking to make YouTube the only channel you will need on your TeeVee. Just tune into YouTube-2015 (or sooner) and watch anything you want. Advertising revenue will flow to Google and life will be good - for Google.

Of course those pesky contracts that have to be signed with the real TeeVee players will slow down the process a bit. This is the battleground with iTunes and Netflix and all the others who want to be your main channel.

I thought the whole point of You Tube, Netflix and others was so we could watch programming at a time that was convenient to us, the viewer. Live is OK for "Breaking News". Historical news and events need to be on the viewer's schedule. Distributing viewing times helps minimize the load on the internet circuits. With lots of people watching at once, without an improved internet network in America regular daily internet traffic is going to get bogged down.

You use the 12 hour clock notation for time. Unfortunately we use the 24 hour clock notation here and I have no idea when 12:30 PM is on the day. Also it's presented in PST which is 7 hrs ahead of Europe adding more confusion to European viewers.

This is interesting. But why just Partners when rolling it out, I know it would be convienient but it's a tad unfair giving it to them all the time, considering the rest of us have less a fan base.

Also would live shows automatically be saved after broadcast? and ofcourse will up to 1080p be introduced when you guys make it more stable?

I wish testing did not have to bork the entire website, so that I am unable to watch anything, leave comments, or check my inbox. Also, why does YouTube always pick corporate sellouts to stream live? Just my opinion, but why not pick YouTube oddities and ask if they wouldn't like to have front-row status for a day? We watch YouTube to avoid Hollywood. Just a thought.

Congratulations on your trial of live streaming online.

You have done a wonderful job supporting captions for prerecorded media with CaptionTube and your speech-to-text feature. We hope that your trail is successful and we would be very encouraged to see support for live captioning as part of your live streaming platform.

There are very few live captioning platforms that provide native support for live captioning. YouTube could lead the way and encourage more people to consider live captioning to increase access for all.

Can you comment on the latency/bandwidth uploaded of each broadcast? Everyone in live streaming claims that "live" is around 5 seconds or more. While that is great for recreational streaming, people who broadcast real-time applications get left in the dust when they can't afford broadcast industry hardware.

Please have an API and allow live wmv stream too. Allow broadcasters to enter their live stream from thier own server so others can watch. That way they don't need to run the live broadcast from their main home computer 24/7. Once they enter the live stream (i.e. mms://westerns.tubtub.com/ ) Thanks!

My channel is devoted to astronomy and science, and one use I would love to use streaming to:

    * have a telescope trained on the sun so people could see a current image of solar activity throughout solar minimum.

    * live stream certain astronomical events, like meteor showers, comet approaches, eclipses, occultations and a variety of other events.

I think students and teachers could get a lot out of something like that. Looking forward to the release of this! For reference, my channel is DeepAstronomy

YouTube partners should not be the only live broadcasters. It takes a different skill set to succeed live. Please give others a chance to broadcast live too.

Many popular radio shows did not have the same success on live TV in the 50s. Many silent film stars failed to succeed in sound motion pictures.

Many YouTube stars have not done so well on television or live performances. They may not have the stage presence or quick wit needed for live broadcasting.

YouTube is all about going from zero to hero. Please let the non-partners at least have a chance.

    Thanks.

I believe this is a great news for many people who wait for Youtube to launch its live streaming platform. Just one thought, if you want to broadcast with high quality and monetize your videos or live contents, Youtube probably will not be the site your are looking for. I heard about a live streaming server called DaCast(www.dacast.com). The company just launched its integrated platform allows user streaming good quality videos and making money by choosing the pre-setup monetization models in the system. They are offering a free trial now, you can sign up a new account and get 10GB for free.

As a YouTube partner, I have to say, I'm hoping that YouTube will only offer this service to partners and NOT to everyone. Otherwise, you will have a glut of sub-par live feeds clogging up the site and eating up bandwidth. Who needs 567 channels of people filming their pets 24-7?

integrate it into the user channels, that would be the end of the competition. We all have to go to other competitors sites to do this currently. Keeping people inside the youtube network should be your top priority. A twitter module and a dailybooth module would pretty much seal the deal on most ALL other platforms. Heck, why not make a multi platform application so people don't even have to go to the web site? Then you could get the app on boxee and other appliances. You guys have too much potential to stay within the community to be selling out to folks like veevo and such.

Very interesting, and I think this would be great to all musicians, actors, and commedians in the business. I'd like to be on live when everything is working perfectly!
