I hope I get contacted, I've just been making plans myself to completely re-invent my channel. I've already started, but to complete the re-design I'll need a new Camera like a Canon t2i or 7D, and a work horse computer (like a Mac Pro) to export my videos. ATM it takes 4+ hours to export a short video, because of all the visual effects I've added, with After Effects. (I'm averaging 8 hours total, setup, recording, editing, exporting, then uploading, for my last 3 videos, that were 2-4 mins long...)
Hats off to YouTube. This is a great idea. I doubt I'll be considered but wish those who are selected the best of luck with the grant application process.
How about you allow people who live outside G8 countries to also monetize their Youtube uploads? I find it really super bad that I may not earn money on my Youtube videos just because I am a citizen of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Google, Youtube, I'm proud of you for stepping up. With all the Lebron news lately, Kinna feels like you're finally doing what the NBA Draft does... Lockem down but payem well!
wow so now we have Normal youtubers (Google: who cares), Youtube Partners (Google: thank you for making us $ suckers as a thank you have 10% of it), and YouTube Partner Grants (Google will give you $, thin you give it back (with a bunch extra) and we make EVEN MORE $!). *sigh* this site is getting worse and worse all the time!
FINALLY!! this is the convergence of technology and broadcasting i have been waiting for. check out youtube.com/miixxy - i have a bunch of web series in mind!
heres what needs to be done first of youtube let me pay you so i have partner benfits meaning longer length thumbnail and all that good stuff, with my monthly payment you guys should all so advertise use on the side of pages you should also go to new youtubers or ppl that just started uploading videos and say hey you got something good here what we will do is advertise for you give you partner ship but no pay intill we can see if your geting more subs and views. thats what i think tell me what you think here http://youtube.com/7pd3
I'm not a partner, although I've been trying, and have one video with ads on it. Can I be considered? I'm making a Call of Duty fanfilm about Ghost, and I need a little cash...
A grant from youtube would be great. We've been approached by venture capitalist but have decided against it due to the nature of request of the venture capitalist asking for controlling interest. This grant would definitely hope grow a channel like ours and many others that have potential to rival that of shows on network television.
Sounds like a great idea, but it would be nice if you broadened your invitation criteria. I just produced my first video, very high quality, and it did very well. It is standing on the platform of a website ranked #1 by Google for several keywords, such as "BBQ Ribs". Please check it out at http://amazingribs.com/recipes/beef/searing_steaks.html
In the details we will see if the following is true or not...because this smells a bit like a wolf in sheeps clothing the indie film world has seen before....
1. It's not really a grant. (again no acquisition control put forth) 2. You are just recreating a model that replaces an old regime with a new one. (NBC, Disney etc...will give you money if you have all the things Youtube says they are looking for..are the contracts the same as a development deal?) 3.You are just trying to step in between independent content creators starting to have access and companies getting comfortable dealing directly with the content creators... corraling them in so you get the ad moneys ...as precedent this year are finally being set for advertisers and retailers to be comfortable dealing directly with the people who have control over placement in story architecture (for advertising and direct integrated retail)
This is definitely NOT looking when you really look at it...like a double rainbow unless their is no contract with Youtube afterward..
4. This looks like a large corporate wolf who struggles with it's wolfdom... in sheep's clothing leading the lambs with up front money...when the spickets for direct ad moneys to those same productions are turning a corner
...and on a side note - How long before SAG,WGA etc (people who have spent their lives focused on making products that Google/Youtube all now make money off of) step in on these "grants" and say ...er no more Mr. nice guy.
This is just another big corporation realizing in the next chapter the people who control content architecture and production will hold the cards to ad and retail on the internet.
Sorry but somebody has to point out this is a deal with... maybe not the devil but someone who is a large corporation about to face the inevitable change of power.... is just the same as the emperor who made sure the surfs never had a chance to have an open market that didn't (and this will be in the details) go through the emperor's coffers...and corral.
Will there be a grant for those of us who are teaching educators how to use YouTube for instruction? I doubt if the work I do teaching educators will reach the popularity needed for partner status. Just consider this a plea from one university prof quietly teacher her students the benefits of YouTube and digital video for education.
I'm very excited that YouTube is helping to foster creativity by encouraging the development of truly independent content.
I'm a collaborative filmmaking and I'm a panelist at the Open World Forum on the subject of "open movies" See http://www.openworldforum.org/attend/agenda/open-source-movies (which is sponsored by Google). Outside the plug, I could do a lot of good for open movies and would LOVE to be invited to submit a grant proposal *wink *wink. Great to see this happening.
Is the partner program really available to us? I read that the application process is fast 24 hours for AdSense account holders but then when I apply no action in weeks from YouTube. I read everywhere that people are waiting for months if not years for their application to be reviewed. I already have two videos that have ads. Frank
I've created lots of Youtube videos (Topdoginuk) but, now I've just discovered/mangaged to get my creations on laptop via a IEEE1394 cable from my camcorder. It sets me free to create better videos now! If you need to learn Guitar, music theory, KaossPro, painting or singing, go check out my channel & subscrbe: youtube.com/topdoginuk
Originally I was excited to hear about this, but after reading HOW this functions I'm a lot less excited. We specifically do NOT put our videos on YouTube because there's no opportunity for financial reward unless you're hand picked by the Google gods.
We podcast our videos in iTunes (we're now #4 in the Educationa Video category - behind CNN) and also put up a copy on Vimeo and then embed it on our blog - http://japancast.net
We are the #1 Japanese educational video podcast in iTunes by far. Unfortunately Google will never find out because we don't put our videos on YouTube....
I hope I can be eligible. Despite my work, I spend some fun time editing and publishing dance (dancechallenge) and choir videos (musikchallenge), the best I know, here in Portugal. Sure, that the money would be invested in order to inproove more and more quality to published videos in YouTube A couple of years ago, I won a digital camera as the best quality videos posted in salsadynasty.com in Miami... Cheers Ernesto
I second the fact that this is far less exciting on close inspection.
I have been in preproduction for 12 months now, and expect to be filming in the coming months. I have TV production experience, and a year in preproduction is normal for a quality show. I have never uploaded anything onto Youtube as I was working to get a good product ready. This policy seems to be designed to reward people who have lower standards, who Google hope to encourage to make better quality content. What it will be doing is chasing anyone who is already creating quality content away.
Google also needs to get more capital available to content providers for their Google TV service. Sony TV and Hulu are going to be very attractive to quality content providers.
Guess we'll have to wait and see. I notice that in the criteria for selection they video views, subscribers, growth rate, audience engagement and production expertise. Strangely they put production expertise last.
That is rather on the frustrating side because I have seen a lot of high quality, interesting videos that haven't had many views. Some videos constantly get to the top of the YouTube search results even though they are less relevant than ones much further down, and that have more relevant keywords attached to them! So some people won't stand a chance.
Yay YouTube! Hoping this extends to your YouTube Edu partners as we'd love to expand our vital work in online lectures curated around diverse communities and today's compelling issues. We are big on aligning our content with news stories and national broadcast programs to enrich the audience experience through curated pathways. See forum-network.org.
This will be a great thing if it's spread around to more than just a few select people. Personally, I need lighting, cameras, video editors, and a production budget; so I know the money is really needed by us smaller partners.
YouTube Please Call! We make simply amazing animated videos at SwitchMarketing and we are the exclusive producers of Custom Common Craft style videos, too!
i wish i could get into this program . i try to upload at least every week or 2 a video i focus on action scenes (i am trying to get good scripts to work on , hopefully i will be getting good ones very soon ) i appreciated what you tube and Google are doing giving back to the Community its amazing , i sooo wish i could get into YouTube as a partner (i wish i could produce video in higher quality and better equipment, i just cant afford it (i just got out of the army IDF and i need to save up money for school (i want to learn VFX big time ) i have sooo Manny ideas on action scenes i would like to make i just dont have the right actors (maybe ill have very soon since i am in touch with some guy who said he can introduce me to some guys who would like to participate if anybody who is from Israel and is an american and is reading this thread please please contact me maybe we can do something together i know how to create the content but i dont have the good ideas to make it happen ! thanks for reading this YouTube you guys are great (oh and google )
Gee, I bet BIG partners will get grants. Seems they are catered too. The small partners (like myself) can't get father due to finacial restraints, and are the ones who could really use the leg up. Hope YT does the right thing!
When you provide the financial backing for a project you're committing yourself deeply to the content production side of this equation.
ReplyDeleteI had read that Google was firmly against being in the content production business. Is this a test of that policy or a deliberate shift?
I hope I get contacted, I've just been making plans myself to completely re-invent my channel. I've already started, but to complete the re-design I'll need a new Camera like a Canon t2i or 7D, and a work horse computer (like a Mac Pro) to export my videos. ReplyDeleteNow I'm really going to get to work on reaching YouTube Partner!
ReplyDeleteHats off to YouTube. This is a great idea. I doubt I'll be considered but wish those who are selected the best of luck with the grant application process.
ReplyDeleteI hope smaller partner like me are invited. we actually can use the cash.
ReplyDeleteVery cool guys! I know of alot of partners that are restricted due to budget restraints.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll take a look at epicfu for the grant program.
ReplyDeleteHow about you allow people who live outside G8 countries to also monetize their Youtube uploads? I find it really super bad that I may not earn money on my Youtube videos just because I am a citizen of the Kingdom of Denmark.

ReplyDeleteWOW... that's amazing.
ReplyDeleteI would be very happy to talk to YouTube about this opportunity and how I would use the allotted funds. My username is theshadowfan.

ReplyDeleteStill waiting for my application for YouTube partnership I'm fairly have a good Channel hopefully soon

Excuse me,How can I apply or get this support from Youtube? From Johnson Taiwan
ReplyDeleteI'm not a partner, although I've been trying, and have one video with ads on it. Can I be considered? I'm making a Call of Duty fanfilm about Ghost, and I need a little cash...
ReplyDeleteKeep dreaming, and keep posting material that corporate media rips off and uses for itself, because of the bad YouTube terms of service.
ReplyDeleteFunding startups that give product away for free makes little sense, unless...
It really sounds like a "contest" to spur free content creation even further.
When your work is free, you can only dream of a payday.
great stuff
ReplyDeleteAwesome opportunity for VFX workers. Great to see this move from Youtube team.

Problem a lot of partner's get views because the have quality video gear already and can spend cash to promote their video's other ways.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome for partners. We're still stuck in the queue to become a partner. Anyone know how to move the needle on that?
ReplyDeleteI wish they would invest in my channel as I cover the Gulf Oil Crisis
