YouTube, just keep the comments the way they are. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were, and everyone will be happier.
You finally added visible thumbs up or down for comments, but made the hover over comment menu (Reply, Thumb Up/Down) visible w/out having to place the cursor over the comment. Who reads comments by placing the cursor over comments?
And speaking of Liked Videos, how about making a menu for it under users name? Where is the Playlist and History links? I have to type in the address bar their URL to them.
Also, make the video Thumb Up/Down rating visible even before a user rates the video.
BTW, why is it that on the My Channel Recent Activity feed, it still says I rated 5 stars? When's that going to change to I thumbed up a video?
Great Improvement, the amount of garbage chatter in the comments feed really reflects poorly on the site. The new features should be a great boon to those who appreciate intelligent discourse.
I don't like how everything is the same color. It all looks so blah. Nothing really stands out. I also don't like the banner position, it seems hidden.
Esta genial la actualizacion. El hecho de no tener que volver a cargar los videos una vez ya cargados. Los nuevos raitings, los subtitulos y el alquiler de peliculas. Felicitaciones. youtube people
No more ratings?? Sorry, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna like this. I hope the "Like-Dislike" buttons won't get abused.
btw, how will the videos look like in the video search page? For instance, when I type in "YouTube" in the YouTube search bar and videos come up, will it say how many people like or dislike the video? What will happen to videos currently on here that have thousands of ratings that vary?
I am skeptical, but I hope this turns out ok. I will opt-in and try it out and comment here after I have used it for a while with my opinion.
I love a lot of the new page, but I really don't like the comments. I don't like how they appear AFTER the user name instead of under the user name. It makes it feel very cluttered and unorganized.
Not liking this new comment highlights. It was better the way it was before. Now my video responses don't show as easily. Another thing that I'm finding annoying is the AutoPlay feature. How do I disable this permanently?
Also, I'm not a fan of how the "related videos" are combined with "other videos from this user". I would like these two lists to be partitioned as they are now, I see no reason for that to change.
Other than that and the comments everything is good.
I really don't like that comment replies to comments are NOT indented anymore. In fact, I believe 2-3 indented layers for replies would help readability.
The current unindented list of comments is very hard to read. Is this a bug?
That was a hard video to watch. A simple changelog would have sufficed.
The updates look fine. I'm a tad worried about the autoplay feature, here's hoping it's an account setting and not a cookie. If I set it off, I want it to stay off.
Will the video controls not be getting an overhaul?
I think Comment sections are great, but the order is not so great.
Recent comments should be at the top still so that most recent comments get viewed first, then top rated, then author comments.
It is going to get really annoying to get more e-mail replies to Author comments because users will see them more and reply for the sake of replying (for bigger channels).
YouTube, could you please look into these two issues I reported? They are both with the new video page:
"Activity Sharing doesn't publish new thumbs up/down rating on my Twitter account" http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=769f167e9dcf2f6c&hl=en
"Watched videos in Subscriptions box aren't automatically removed unless clicked on in the Subscriptions box" http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=2db6524fabeb89ab&hl=en
Those are the only two problems I've noticed, but I'll of course file a new bug report if I find more. The new layout is coming along great. Great job guys. :)
Please fix Autoplay so that we have the option to turn it on or off under our account settings. Please fix it so that any options we select or opt for under our account settings are saved & do not revert back to options we do not want after a few video plays eg I select "I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video." & after a few video plays it changes to one of the other options! Similarly - location settings! I've checked & double checked & my cookie settings are correct so why does this error happen? The ability to delete a video from our subscriber video list selection on our home page (clicking on the x) also seems to be blocked. Quite happy with most of the changes you are proposing (not sure about the comments front page thing)but its the annoying glitches (as described above)that need to be fixed 1st & foremost before rolling out any new versions. TY for listening.
Welcome to YouTube 0.2, everybody. How it would have looked in the 1990s. http://www.webmasterci.com/ http://www.webmasterci.com http://www.webmasterci.com/ http://www.webmasterci.com
Thanks to YouTube for incorporating some of the feedback you've received on the changes you're making. The community appreciates your listening and responding to our feedback.
I echo the comments of people who would love an option to permanently set the Auto-Play feature to Off. When the Auto-Play automatically takes me to the next video in my Subscriptions, it takes away valuable time that I use to comment on videos after I've watched them. Commenting is so much of a part of this community, and the Auto-Play feature does no favors to it. Even when I set it to Off, as soon as I click on a new video to watch, I have to remember to set it to Off again. Highly annoying. I don't want to bash the Auto-Play function entirely. I can see how it would be useful for people who don't comment or people who are watching playlists, but it should be an option that one can opt into or turn off instead of a default.
i not sure yet on the new addon. but i like 2 thing to be fix. start off. it is pointless to show my playlist to me. it should show video playlist to other if there a playlist for that video. other thing is auto play is number 1 big problem. i dont like turn it off every time i go see sub video.
Hi from YouTube. Thanks so much for all your feedback so far. We updated the post, but also wanted to comment here: After reading your comments, we'd like to note that some of you are opted in permanently to the new page, which means you are part of our current experiment and are unable to opt out. These kinds of experiments help us learn what works on the page and what doesn't, so that we can build the best possible site for you. We've also heard your feedback on Auto-play interrupting your experience and are working on some improvements.
The video info textbox is to small, and I miss the 5 star rating system, I think, that the thumps down part will be used in a wrong way and abused.
The only great thing in the new setup, is the top part over the video where you can scrool a channels video's, But this feature will also mean fewer direct visits to the video channels (so why should a channel owner try to make anything nice in there, but use the standard grey channel layout).
Nice playlist feature, but it would be nice if it by default is open when clicking on it and not closing again, when clicking on a new video on the playlist. Again, don't forget the channels wish to make traffic and social connections, a lot of channels do not have any videos, but use the playlists and favorites to make statements. Upgrade the social part, and Y will soon rank as no. 2 ;)
Ok, after using the new video page for a while, PLEASE FIX THE COMMENTS! They are all messed up! There is nothing on the video page that tells me the total number of comments. Also, the video responces are messed up too. I can't post a video responce to anything! To tell you the truth, I hate the new video page. The old one is way better.
Also, what's up with the @replies and #tags? YouTube is starting to look more and more like Twitter every day....
And the fact that comments that get a lot of "Thumbs-Up" votes go up to the top of the comments page is very bad. Spammers could put stupid stuff and vote their comments up the page.
Sorry if I sound critical, I just want to put my 2 cents in. YouTubers need to voice their opinions about important issues such as this.
Hi im john but on youtube im spartan2194 the homepage is weird and it says the feed then people who uploaded or favor'd videos basically the homepage is fucked up have it back to the way it ways idk if its just me or not but goddamn it i want answers and not a crappy homepage
YouTube, just keep the comments the way they are. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were, and everyone will be happier. Also auto-play needs not to work all the time. Please add a button for permanent no. Everything else is good :)
I like the play method of the new youtube, but the new home sucks. I miss the section where all the new videos from my subscriptions went. The list is so confusing and it misses videos that have been posted
Finally! Some word from the team. Not completely staisfying, but better than total darkness!!! There must be millions and bajillions of people out there who have been clamoring for this redesign - I sure do wish I knew who they were! Everyone everywhere I have been able to look has been so negative.
This rewire is confusing. But I will get used to it...(won't I?)
The pop-up/ hidden reply/comment/rate is SOOOO ANNOYING!!! AND it makes the video stop if you mouse-over. TOO MANY POPPY-UPPY WIDGETS!!!
Will the long column of videos on the right all be "top rated" (perhaps meaning our choices will be limited to what the masses like?)
Why can't we see ratings BEFORE rating? What's the hidden agenda with that? I notice that having "likes" and "dislikes" associated with a particular user (in our very own personal Like/Dislike bin) is very important to the Redesign team - obviously to aid in directing targeted something to us.
I am sure people with short attention spans who love new techy gadgetry are all over this as the coolest thing since ice... the rest of us will have to learn how to make actual use of it!
Can I just add that I HATE the new home page. I liked my old page that had boxes and didn't show me every single thing that all of the people I subscribe to are doing. Plus, it makes it really hard to find the latest videos from some of my favorite people. I had to dig through my page to find the newest vlogbrothers video which is something I could have found very quickly on the old home page
Many Comment Fixs: Alternate threads w/ two colors, ENFORCE the @UserName, Quoting, Thread ordering, & more.
2 simple changes, that will go a long way.
(1) For every thread in the comment section, alternate the background color. That way it's easy to see the different threads.
(2) And enforce the @UserName at the beginning of each comment so we can tell who's talking to who. This acts as indentation!
These 2 small additions alone will make the comment section infinitely better.
*** Other changes I'd like to see to the comment section. ***
(3) When a person replies to a "thread" bump that thread to the top of the comment page. (more explanation later)
(4) Right justify the post time. Right now the placement is too random. Though, I might also like the time to show up next to my username instead. Either way is good, but, the current way is too messy.
(5) As a video uploader, I do NOT want the "block user" button right in my face. Way too easy to hit. And as a video commenter I REALLY do not want people to have that block button right there ready to block people. Pretty lame IMO. Put that option on the side!
(6) Highlight in gold all posts made by the video uploader. These are often important to read messages. Bolding is not enough.
(7) Allow the Uploader to highlight comments in gold that he thinks are very good. These comments can be thumbed negative, BUT, they will always be seen no matter what the settings. Also, they cannot be marked as spam. REPLACE the "Block User" button with this! Encourage the POSITIVE.
(8) Anti-spam. Give the video uploader 2 more options to NOT censor comments. Allow him to make it so all comments cannot be marked as spam. Give the Uploader that power if he wants to live with that consequence. There are too many people who mark GOOD comments as spam even if they are not spam at all, just messages that others disagree with. This should not be default.
Also give the uploader a third thumbs option. Instead of all thumbs, and no thumbs, The third thumbs option is to not allow any comment to be marked below -5. That way he can keep the Thumbs, but prevent the Thumb abusers. (people who re-thumb messages down over and over. Yes, this is possible!) This should be DEFAULT!
Oh, and also an option to make Thumbs only work if you are friends with the video uploader. Just an option. By default this is not set.
(9) Another feature I want is to instead of DELETE a comment, I want to move it "Unapproved" status.
(10) Reverse pages. In All Comments, please renumber the pages backwards so I can go back and read by remember what page I was on. Let's say I was reading a really huge comment section with 20 pages. And I get to page 5. Let's say the next day I see the comments have exploded into 50 pages. How do I remember where I was as the page numbers keep changing? Along with that, please make the last page have 500 comments exactly. This way I can keep my place exactly. This can also make things very easy for your servers, Youtube. Think of it. EXACTLY 500 comments. EXACTLY page #1. No calculations needed. You can just store the old comments away. I notice on the most discussed videos of all time, if trying to go back to the oldest comments Youtube chokes! This idea should make that not happen.
(11) Quoting. On the main comments under every video, please include the message a person is quoting. Even if the comment is very old. That would mean that the ten comments on the video are always visible, but THEORETICALLY, there could be as many as 20 shown. That is, each of the 10 new comments are replying to 10 different old comments. This will provide great context to the video watch page. I would actually prefer that you include 2 posts deep (30 comments max) on the video watch page, as that would provide the greatest proper message context! without showing ALL messages. But I doubt you'll go that far.
And not only that, but, by allowing it to go two quotes deep, you encourage conversation. Think of it like this, if I reply to someone, I not only "reveal" his comment on the video watch page, but my own that he replied to! This would encourage people to comment even more.
(12) 1st Page GOLD comments. Another nice feature would be, on the first All Comments page, all comments made by the Uploader are shown. Along with all his favorite comments (suggestion # 7 above). Combine this with idea #11 (quoting).
The great thing about this is this makes sure anyone reading a huge comment section knows what the Uploader says, AND what he considers important. You should add the gold comments at the bottom of the newest page, with the double quoting. This will make calculating the page easy for Youtube. 500 newest comment PLUS added at the end, the gold comments (with double quoting).
(13) Big suggestion, Thread Structure. Structure the "threads" in the following way. (The numbers are the order the comments are posted, you can also look at them as usernames.)
3 @3 4 @4 10 @4 7 @3 6 @3 5
8 @8 9
1 @1 2
The point of this structure is to put the newest replies at the top, but the thread will still maintain an internal structure.
You can see in the example post # 10 is near the top (he's replying to poster #4, who replied to poster #3), along with the thread he is replying to (think of it like a message board, newest updated threads at the top of the board).
This also shows more of what people consider the most interesting comments as they will often be near the top of the comment section.
I would really love it if you guys would add the ability to search from the watch page without leaving the watch page. Have the results come up in the playlist frame or something. Other than that, I love all of it, aside from a slight CSS error on my favorites page(the text stretches the box around each favorite instead of fitting itself to it)( firefox 3.6)
Like a few other people have said, the comments now seem very cluttered. The lack of division, ala a horizontal line like it was before, adds to that cluttered feeling. It's pretty much impossible for me to read them as they are now. :/
My above post is mostly commentary to spruce up the "All Comments" page I made before today's newer stuff.
So, in reply to today's stuff.
The drop down at the top of the page by my name. I definitely want History back, and Liked.
As for the main video page.
I like the top bar. But there's a lot of wasted space up there IMO. I would like to compress it a bit so there's not as much scrolling up and down to watch the video I just clicked from it.
The reason for moving those things like views up there is to make room below. Also, in the video list remove the channel names. It's redundant.
Main Video changes? I'd like a double/triple speed option, and a frame by frame option.
Below the video as mentioned, I would move Views, Embed, and Flag up top. That doesn't need to be down here. IMO. Also, remove the channel name from the side bar. Uneeded because I want more video side bar text, not the channel name. Also make the video date = "days ago" format, unless we expand the side bar. That saves a little more space.
Move Like/Save/Share to where Views used to be.
Change it to ThumbUp/Down/Heart
Heart = Thumbs Up AND Favorite. This is to encourage people who want to do both, to do so. (this way video makers can suggest it) Also, after clicking the heart it should pop up the playlist selector so you can also encourage people to playlist things. However, if someone does not choose a playlist at all, then it will just favorite. But, if someone chooses a playlist, it will not favorite but will just go to the playlist. The reason for this is I think you should encourage "1 click favoriting." It's 2 clicks right now. Not good. Now put sharing below the Up/Down/Heart. This section is now the "user interaction" area.
Another reason for these moves is to allow for MORE "side bar text". Make the side bar 3-4 lines deep by default now as we cleared up some space.
Now, we get to the comments section.
First, that Comment Box is too long. Idea: Inside the comment box place some text that the Uploader can put there. Like, the "question of the day" or what the video owner wants you to answer or debate.
On the right of the comment box/comments put the Video Replies, down the side (like the related videos). So we have these replies go down the side of the side of the comment section. (also, I recc a way to stop video reply spammers. Each video upload should have as a default option that any video reply HAS TO BE NEWER than the video it is replying to or it will be set to PENDING! AND can never have been a Video Reply before!! This is default behavior and these limits make sense. Of course, the Uploader can still look them over, but default behavior is newer AND never been a reply before)
Get rid of the pop up reply/thumbs thing on the comments. Ugly and weird.
Comments should be set up like this:
@Commentee, Commenter: text text text [[THUMBS UP / DOWN! (days ago)]]
Note: The thumbs and the (days ago) should be right justified after the last character of the comment. Also, make sure that this block of days/thumbs is a solid piece and does not word wrap to the next line.
Okay, now move all the Mouse Over options ONTO the message.
On mouse over comment: [THUMBS] pops up thumb choice. (BTW, I would like to see thumbs up and down totals at the same time, plusses and minuses)
On mouse over comment: Date turns into a SPAM? button. For the user, it's a delete button.
On mouse over comment: TEXT TEXT TEXT pops up with a REPLY? prompt. Clicking here will pop UP a reply box. This reply box pop up will have the comment copy above, and a reply text box below. The reason for this is AUTOPLAY!!! I've been writing comments and have the video auto on me! ARGH!! If the reply box is a popup box "not in the page" then I can finishing commenting as the videos play.
This covers all public options. Now for video owner options for each comment.
Very simple, below each comment will be 3 boxes. [UN/BLOCK] [UN/HIGHLIGHT] [DIS/APPROVE]
Each box can reverse things.
Blocking will block the user. Obviously. Highlighting will make the comment "gold". For all readers to see. Disapprove is like deleting, but you still have the comment if you want it.
Approved comments can never be spammed. But they can be thumbed down.
Highlighted comments can also never be spammed. In addition, they can never be hidden by thumbing down either! Users can mark them down and we all can see this, but, the comments will never be censored. This is because the Uploader considers this message IMPORTANT. That's what highlighting is for.
Now, I kinda like the front page stuff. But, on the comments, you need MORE comments. 10 is not enough.
And video replies seem to count as part of the 10 comments? Nah.
First off. Video Replies on the side. And when I mouse over them, then they should show the details of the video before I click. Also let video owner "highlight" his favorite video replies. All video replies will always be visible. These are more important than ANY comment. Just make sure you enact the anti-spam ideas and video replies will mean a lot more to people!
Now, the comment section.
More comments PLZ. Here's how.
First, find the last 3 replies by the uploader. Now find the 5 newest replies to the video that are not the uploader.
ALL these comments should be mixed together! I don't think separate sections are good.
Now find the 2 messages that these 5+3 posts reply to. For example. Let's say I reply to a post, that is in reply to me. I want to see that message I am replying to AND the post that it is replying to. So it will be like.
Jinitron: text text text (very old comment) @Jinitron, YTuber123: text text text (very old comment) @YTuber123, Jinitron: text text text (BRAND NEW COMMENT!!)
If we do the math on this. There can be as few as 8 posts on the WATCH page. Or there can be as many as (5+3) * 3 = 24 comments. Most likely somewhere in between.
Get rid of "most thumbs". Those comments are often not worth taking up space in my limited experience. Plus, it just encourages self thumb spam.
Also, make sure all these comments are "mixed". I don't need a separate section for Uploader, or Recent. Just mix them.
Now, below this will be a "next page" button. I'm not too concerned with this. You can make it operate as it currently does. Just pluck the newest comments in order, page after page.
Finally, on related videos. The only fixes there are I want Queue to be 1 click again. Must have. And also I want the queue to be fully open at all times, and I want my playing playlist to be open at all times too.
Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestions. :)
Is there a way to make it possible to remove old videos by clicking the box and selecting a remove or delete option from the menu? I like being subscribed but I don't always watch all of the videos.
I opted in to the new page for good voluntarily. I figured I'll give myself a lot of time to get used to it, and I'm slowly starting to learn and adapt to it.
I'd like a way to disable the autoplay feature permanently. I generally wait until the end of a video to leave any comments (so that I don't end up posting multiple ones), but the autoplay ends up taking me away before I finish.
I'd also like a feature to be able to see the ratings of all comments, not just the highest rated. (Also, how about showing all the like and dislike ratings before someone votes, similar to Livevideo's system)
Other than that, I'm starting to get used to this new layout, and I look forward to seeing the completed product.
it was the ONLY way I could see my new subscribtion videos cause when I click the subscription page it only gives me videos of a small portion of users I subscribed to that are loaded three or four days ago, when I know there are users I subscribed to have uploaded in the past few hours, but on the old homepage module they would all show up
Any chance of adding an edit button to the comments? Because THAT would be fantastic! I hate not being able to edit my comments, and if I delete the post to type a new one it still shows as a delete which is really annoying. Can't you change so that the comment disapears all together? Or add an edit button either way I would be very very happy =)
Rarely have I seen a website do so much to screw up a user interface such as what YouTube has "accomplished" over the last few months.
It wasn't enough that you had to make all our channels more complicated, less intuitive and generally obnoxious looking, but now you've gone overboard by "fixing" the video page layouts that weren't broken to begin with.
Now, there's no way to simply access my quicklist and, now I'm forced to "opt out" of auto-playing all my subscriptions should I choose to view any one video from my subscription list. Do you have any f*cking idea how annoying that is, YouTube? It's like being forced to listen to audio on some random website unless I turn the audio off first.
Not only that, but you've totally ruined the comment system. I like the 5 star system. It was wonderful and comfortable. Now, I'm given the choice of thumbs making me think YouTube is copying that annoying YouTube clone, Break.com.
A 5-star rating system is a much more subtle, intelligent system to allow for the grading of a video. Don't force us to decide if we like a video or not. Don't force things to be black or white.
And you've totally ruined the comment system, too. Now, it's darn near impossible to follow the flow of any conversations that develop among fellow users. Btw, who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to make us have to hover over a comment just to make the buttons come up? That is plain annoying and wastes my time.
Additionally, by limiting the display of video responses (and forcing users to click to another page just to see them all), you've basically ruined the whole concept of 'video responses,' which has been a very important part of YouTube culture for a while now.
As with the case of all these other new changes, the old method of display was much more user friendly.
I agree with what many people here have been saying. Youtube Dev's constant ADD with the website design is getting more & more frustrating EACH AND EVERY SINGLE TIME they decide they're bored of how something works and decides to change it, only to make it worse than how it already was. Enough is enough. The All Comments page now looks like some poorly, put-together system that had no effort put into it compared to what the system was before. Everything is all mushed together and confusing, you don't know who's replying to who, it's even MORE disorganized than ever and changing pages is broken. Why can't your web designers get it in their heads that THE DESIGN WAS FINE?!? Each and every time Youtube Maintenance occurs, people unanimously have the same mindset on twitter: "Ok, what's Youtube going to break this time?" More often than not, you never fail to deliver as something else winds up not working or being deimproved. You add 1 shiny new feature and break 2 existing features. Please, enough is enough. Put the comments back the way they were before and STOP TRYING TO FIX THINGS THAT AREN'T BROKEN!
While I do not necessary enjoy this new video page layout, I hope you'll consider what I have to say about it.
The largest problem we all have is readability. Playing with colors has fixed that a little, but you still have a small way to go. Each "base comment" should be bolded, and all reply comments should have standard text. It's very misleading to see only the video creator have a bold user name.
Placing "Block User" right next to the user name probably isn't the best idea. Though it is a few spaces away, mistakes still happen.
The overall design looks like everything was thrown together in a giant heap. Almost like an amateur created the whole video page with no more than 5 minutes of experience with Dreamweaver. Put in other words. The whole thing looks like an HTML practice page.
I've noticed that very big (and ugly) unorganized pages seem to be the new thing now. By that, I mean things are crammed together without much to separate them. This new modern look isn't appealing, but for some reason, companies think it is. As far as I can tell, Google has always been the leader of innovation, not the leader of poking around other sites and basing their design off that. These new style clunky designs are difficult to follow. Large amounts of information in one place are nothing if you can't properly organize it. If this page was being designed for a class, it would be given an average grade at best.
Now, the new page isn't all bad. And yes, this is the part I almost expect the YouTube staff to skip to. (You know, the typical run from the problems. Focus on the few good comments while letting the stack of bad comments grow beyond count.)
The page does load quickly. I appreciate how Google has kept some things to a minimum. Especially where design possibilities are concerned. Some may be confused right now, but it's very simple. Ever been to one of those sites that's really laggy because they "have to use flash" for the whole site? Yeah, you know those. I appreciate Google for at least sticking to the basics and not creating an elaborate site programmed in flash.
YouTube, at the very least, don't make the same mistake you did with channels. What is so hard about letting two different styles stay and giving people a choice? Your team is clearly bored enough to go around and redesign every page from here to the end of the world. Maintaining multiple pages would give them something to do.
Also, why do you even care about video pages? When you made the new channel design last year, the whole focus was about not even needing the video page. Did you realize people are sharing videos with those pages still and not the main channel? Is that why it looks ugly beyond reason now?
I probably wasted my time typing this, so if it goes completely unnoticed, I wouldn't be surprised. Afterall, it took you forever to listen to Jpizzle1122 about his flagging situation. With that in mind, why should the regular users believe you're willing to listen? I'll be opting out of this new video page design, and I hope to never see it again, but I don't fully expect that to be the case.
When I click "View All Comments" on a video nowadays, I see a very unorganized page of comments where I can't see who's replying to who unless they put "@username" which most of the older comments didn't do.
"Many of you indicated that comments could use an overhaul and hoped that was a part of the redesign." I have this weird, nagging feeling that that's just a phony excuse to carry on with this. One of these days, Google, someone's going to sue you, and you probably won't win the case because you're being so arrogant. Yes, arrogant; you're not thinking of your users anymore, even though you say you are, you're only thinking of yourselves.
While I don't completely like the new layout, it does look a lot cleaner overall. - I agree with the majority here that the comments section could use some changes; personally I like it chronologically ordered and find myself just skipping past the top rated comments. - I don't like having the user videos band across the top; I've always looked at both sections at same time when browsing for another video. With the user videos at the top and recommended ones on the side, it's annoying to scroll between the two sections to find another video. - More comments on the comments (heh): I've never liked having to go to another page to view the rest of the comments on a video; I'd like it better if there was a way to load more comments without interrupting the video, or even if the first page displayed more comments to begin with.
Those are my biggest qualms. I do like the new, less cluttered look of the site, particularly the header.
I don't like the comment page as well; in addition, watching video is a little bit confusing, I am just wondering who is the user who created this video. It used to appear on the right side of the screen, now all you see is a list of videos....
This is such a mess... What was wrong with the previous Youtube version?
It cannot be denied the new layout sucks. Harder to remove comments, comment voting (which I hate) is harder to see, can't remove "removed" comments, and is just awkward and clumsy compared to the old layout, despite being more "compacted".
And why the hell am I getting so many -1'd comments? I never even said anything bad lately, and (who I think are) spammers still go at them, -1'ing my comments just to piss me off. This is the most annoying thing ever.
Great going, Youtube. You're doing a mighty fine job at running yourself into the ground.
If someone clicks on "View All Comments" they are not looking for a simple page. Put the comment text on a separate line again, so comments can be read easier.
Right now block user it's block user like block user reading block user this block user and block user it block users sucks block user!
thank god i have the old layout back, was not funny to be a test person with out asking, for me it did not work for more then one week, i could not rate i could not fav, or click any button of the new one ... i could only watch ... and it took me 4 more clicks to come to my history .... so far i prefer the old one and can you pls inform users ...when you use us as tester, was totally confused as i noticed other ppl could still use the old one and i had to deal with the new not working one thanks pls pls pls keep the old one btw i surfe with explorer
You know youtube, I found the five star rating system MUCH more reliable than the like/dislike most liked system. Who cares how liked something is? What matters is QUALITY, an important factor of videos the the star rating system conveyed quite efficiently. Think about it. If a video is most liked (along with 20 other most liked videos on the same page), it just says that the video was better than most. But a 1-5 star rating says A LOT MORE! Five stars was the pinnacle of video quality, and was OBVIOUSLY better than a 4.5 star rating. So I'm just gonna cut it short right here and say what everyone else has been saying. DON'T FIX WHAT ISN'T BROKEN!!! DAMMIT U GUYZ R WORSE THAN TEH GOVERNMENT!!!
What drug were you guys on when you totally RUINED all comments view for those of us who actually like discussing the video? Everyone who likes to comment or discuss videos has been complaining day after day after day and complaining, but you are completely ignoring us. There are even videos now with hundreds of comments describing how HORRIBLY UNUSABLE you new all comments view is.
Is the new "all comments" view a way to discourage discussions, like a subtle form of sensorship? BTW - I NEVER opted in to be your beta tester, I HATE (!!@!) your new all comments view. So do a lot of people and you are ignoring us completely.
The threads are gone, do you not realize that people liked DISCUSSING the video as in seeing INDENTATION to show original post and replies. Now it is completely unreadable, there is no way in hell anybody can say who replied to whom, all comments are out of context. @name is NOT ENOUGH, not when the original poster is at the bottom of the page and when there are multiple replies. Have you even tried to actually have a discussion, maybe answer somebody's question?
Do you realize that when one clicks on your "you can opt out here" link, one is taken to the earth video? So how does one actually opts out? By commenting under the video? Yes, this is very intuitive. No wonder you came up with this IDIOTIC design.
You stupid idiots... the 'x' to close videos I've already watched in my subscription update list stopped working. Now to erase the ones I've watched them I gotta watch them and go back to main page. This is highly impractical, that 'x' used to work fine and permitted you to create quicklists with the updates of the day. Just thought I'd let you know. Morons.
NO1 LIKES THE NEW BETA VIDEO FORMAT (expect MAYBE TheWillofDC) THIS IS JUST LIKE YOUTUBE BETA CHANEL 2.0 (NO 1 LIKES IT, EVERYONE TELLS GOOGLE THEY DON'T LIKE IT AND GOOGLE DOS IT ANYWAYS!) WHATEVER HAPPENED TO "Don't be evil!" (Google's corporate motto) COS FORCING US INTO THIS NEW VIDEO FORMAT IS (you gesed it) EVIL!
The new video page format is 80% pathetic. you make the comments side extremely horrible.
First thing, you reduced ratings from 5 stars to thumbs up or down. what in the hell are you guys doing????????? copying twitter and facebook!?!?! make your own identity by creating something new.
Second thing which really disgust me is the fonts of comments... commentors' comments and their nicknames look same.
Third thing is probably the most idiotic idea whatever has given in your research team is the absence of logo/avatar of the person who created/uploaded the video.
At end, I have to say that, day by day, I am loosing my faith in YT.
I absolutely despise it. Please, please let me opt out of it, I find it ridiculous that you are randomly FORCING people to beta test this new feature for you.
Why don't you ask for volunteers instead? I'm sure you'd get several, or at least LET THE PEOPLE YOU'VE CONDEMNED OPT OUT OF IT.
I already find myself using YouTube a lot less due to this.
I actually like the idea behind the new layout, but it looks incomplete. With the complete lack of borders it's sometimes hard to tell where one comment ends and the other begins. When I first saw it, I thought my pages weren't loading completely.
I don't mind being opted in for beta as I beta test of software very heavily and like to try new things, but I do believe it was wrong to have been opted in and not even been given the common courtesy of a message informing me of it. Someone jumped the gun here in many areas.
This is absolutely horrible. Not only are YouTube's programmers completely incompetent morons who apparently can't even figure out how to stop videos from autoplaying or allow videos to load before you hit the play button, but YouTube is also so incredibly incompetent that it would post it's blog on a site that does not keep text in the area after posting - another major problem which YouTube refuses to fix where when comments do not post (which happens extremely frequrntly0 on their own site they gray out the bx so the text cannot be copied and tried again. Every single thing listed on this page will serve to put YouTube further down the shithole, especially the one of thumbing videos - apparently no YouTube programmer HAS EVER WATCHED A YOUTUBE VIDEO EVER or else they would see the comments of "lol u r a fag hahaha" that gets 45 thumbs up on an intelligently-worded political debate video. I guess with the new system of thumbing this is what YouTube uploaders should say in all their videos: "ha ha u r a fag", end of video... this will get them the most thumbs. There is not a single thing mentioned in this blog or video that does not horribly;y ruin some aspect of YouTube, unfortunately those annoying flash buttons have already started to show up on the "view all comments" page and this is why I can no longer type a comment from that page. I guess YouTube is just looking for mass account deletions.
I spent about 3 hours typing a detailed report on why each of these things will cause such mass account deletions, for example the random pop-up overlays which are THE MOST ANNOYING THING ON THE INTERNET and for the most part are only used by advertising companies because all other sites know damn well no one wants to be subjected to such shit and no one enjoys being unable to use a site due to random things popping up wherever you move your mouse, but YouTube apparently prefers for people to be unable to use their website.
The fact that this is posted on a page that doesn't even post comments correctly, just like YouTube itself (did anyone notice they did NOTHING about the glitchy programming that renders it impossible to post comments, but have instead have increased the amount of shitty experience by adding shitty experience to the view instead of how they previously had the shittiness mostly confined to posting??!?). I have a brain and I am perfectly capable of choosing which comments to read instead of having YouTube do it for me.
You notice how the video repeats the phrase "listened to it's users" into such redundancy that you can still hear it 10 minutes after the video has ended? If YouTube was ACTUALLY listening to it's users they wouldn't need to say it at all, since it's users would know it. They are apparently trying to hypnotize you into believing they have listened to you by turning their site into a very large piece of trash.
I think you have a bit of a public relations problem here. I am surprised that this has not become the subject of somebody's Major Network NIGHTLY NEWS REPORT - You must be so rock solidly sure that this will blow over. The forced transition to the current channel page was heavy handed enough, but this takes the cake! Why do YOU suppose that you are getting so many angry responses to this effort?
Is there an explaination as to why there is no longer a link to the "home" page. Are you actively discouraging people (like me) from using it as a base? If so, what exactly is it that your are "encouraging" us to use instead?
Where are the comments of supporters of the redesign on this page? (or any other forum, for that matter?)
I posted something earlier, but I forgot to mention something else.
I realize that the object of this redesign is to simplify the page, but the lack of borders and sections makes it all seem thrown together. Maybe have a grey area behind the related videos or something similar?
Also, I'd really like the ability to custom design our own watch pages. How about add a feature to put a background or banners for partners?
Can you please keep this opt-in only youtube, unlike the channels? you really need to give people a choice of how they want youtube to look. if you force this one upon us you're going to make a LOT of people mad.
By all gods, PLEASE leave the way it is now as an option, something. Anything new you seem to add or change here is absolutely HORRIBLE.
If you really want to bother making YouTube worse (like you guys seem good at, and you are pros at bad decisions), at least let the people decide what looks best, because you clearly can't do that for us.
NOBODY LIKES THIS NEW LAYOUT! The only people that do are people that rarely interact with the site. As a highly active user of youtube, I am completely shocked that you would go as far as to make these drastic changes to the website without giving an "Opt out" option. I have close to 200,000 video views, and I have easily watched over 25,000 videos, so it saddens me to have to say that if my site doesn't go back to the way it was, I'm leaving youtube forever, and moving my videos over to myspace and facebook. Who exactly where you all listening to when you made these changes anyway? It seems to me as if you are trying to annonymize the creator of videos. You took away the subscription button, and you took away the avatar of the uploader in the right hand corner. Its as if you are trying to give as little credit to the individual creator as possible. It was bad enough when you took away the original bulletin set up, but this...this I just cannot accept. I honestly hope that you read these comments, and you take them to heart. I'm a hardcore youtuber (username chrisdotwynn) so I hope that you take my thoughts on the changes into consideration.
Don't turn your back on the community youtube! Listen to us! Keep things the way that they are! Do not go with this beta crap. People love youtube because of the way it is now! Change in this stage of the game will only hurt profits! Trust me! If anything, bring back the old bulletins! Thats change that we can go for! Facebook thrives because it puts the individual first! Youtube used to be a place that did that. Don't let us down Youtube!
"UPDATE: After reading your comments, we'd like to note that some of you are opted in permanently to the new page, which means you are part of our current experiment and are unable to opt out. These kinds of experiments help us learn what works on the page and what doesn't, so that we can build the best possible site for you."
OH FUCK YOU. I do NOT want to beta test this shit. I never wanted to. Get me the FUCK out of this, NOW. I want my old, clean YouTube back.
@Quadunit404 Hey tell me about your experience as I have not installed it yet and reading your comment make me think twice as it doesn't look good. Should I use it?? Pandora console
NO. Do NOT use this layout. It's cluttered, ugly, filled with too many useless features (as always), and is littered with bugs (as always). Also, any latency between replies is lost, due to the lack of proper alignment between comments.
Also, I managed to get rid of the beta watch page before they forced me to use the new comments page by deleting cookies. Soon after I posted how to kill it, they forced me into using the new comment page against my will. This isn't how you run a site, YouTube.
...What happened to the YouTube of 2006 and 2007... back when it was GOOD...
The new "view all comments" page is possibly the WORST "improvement" you've ever made. By removing indentation you have DESTROYED the ability to distinguish threads. Thus, people can no longer carry on proper conversations.
PLEASE, YouTube, put back the indentation. All the other annoyances are tolerable (even the new video page is questionable but still tolerable), but losing threads is not.
Wow, Now I have a huge problem with watching 720 HD videos and can't Op-out...Lame..It was fine until I cleared my cache this afternoon and then restarted my browser to find the new layout. Now 720 HD video are choppy like a slide show no matter how long I buffer them. This was the case right before I cleared my cache. I am using Chrome too..Please don't make me go to to firefox, I was just starting to like Chrome. Anyone else having this problem?!?!??
I'm really hatin' on this new comment set up. I'm looking at a video right now that says it has 24 comments, but only 18 are showing. It's a video tribute to someone who passed away, and not all the comments from well wishers is showing up. This is stupid. Whoever thought of this?
I realy don't like like/dislike over ratings; so now if someone "don't like" a video, it gets one star? also, the embed button is really close to the flag button; I see a lot of videos getting flagged by accident. I agree with the guy who said "YouTube .02, the way it would have been in the 90's". I understand the need to save bandwidth, but why so bland and ugly? I see this trend all over the net.
The two highest rated comments on a video I recently watched had their text hidden, flagged as Spam. On unhiding them, these were comments giving facts with citations that refuted another commenter, that someone had falsely spam-flagged.
Many other replies to the latter commenter were similarly falsely spam-flagged. It seemed like the commenter was dishonestly spamflagging people who disagreed with them, which might have gone overlooked, but the Highest Rated feature was provided a check against their trickery. Nice!
Alas, when I revisited the same video a few hours later, apparently the Highest Rated Feature had been changed to filter out spam-flagged comments. Oh well.
I like the idea of the function, but right now it is actually just pissing me off. I watch a lot of videos which are in several parts, through subscriptions, and the autoplay feature plays them in reverse! The videos are uploaded in play order, which means the last one is going to be first on the list, and Autoplay goes in the other direction, so I ALWAYS have to remember to switch it off, every single time! I don't like it.
Give it more options (ie. let it work in reverse) or make it optional in some global settings
@Kevin Jonson (above): "Great Improvement, the amount of garbage chatter in the comments feed really reflects poorly on the site. The new features should be a great boon to those who appreciate intelligent discourse"
Hello? What planet are you on? How is losing the threads and indentation that actually allows to see who is replying to whom is conducive to "intelligent discourse" as opposed to "garbage chatter". Unless they put some kind of artificial intelligence in that can actually distinguish "intelligent discourse" from "garbage chatter", you are hurting exactly the people who engage in intelligent discourse. Incidentally, I don't even post on political or other threads. I participate in discussions about classical music and opera, and no, I don't engage in insults of people who have different opinions - and these discussions have all but died down in the last few days because of MORONS in YouTube.
Also, I clicked on "Old You Tube" near my name and I still see the IDIOTIC new all comments view. BTW - I am a software engineer myself, and I did my share of UI design. Don't these guys believe in storyboards and thinking design through, then testing in private environment and getting user input before springing their ridiculous changes on users? Not to mention actually responsing to users' comments.
I WANT MY OLD ALL COMMENTS VIEW NOW! I don't understand why I am forced to be your beta tester! I have enough of software research/design/development/test at work, I don't want to do it when I got to listen to music and talk about it. If I clicked on "Old YouTube", I want to see old you tube on ALL PAGES without exceptions.
Incidentally, I have a mother that is dying from cancer. I come to YouTube to actually get some escape. YOU BASTARDS have ruined this escape for me. MORONS!
elexen: "I agree with the guy who said "YouTube .02, the way it would have been in the 90's". I understand the need to save bandwidth, but why so bland and ugly? I see this trend all over the net." Thanks for agreeing. This is a definite step backwards from the old watch pages.
Problems I am having: - the drop shadow of the hover rating for the comments is staying after I move my cursor away. - the autoplay won't stay off, it keeps coming on for each video - in the subscriptions box on my homepage, I CANNOT DELETE VIDEOS, this is REALLY ANNOYING!
In case you would like to know, I am using an iMac with Safari. I will see if I have these problems on other browsers.
Fix the comment system. put it back to the way it was. we want to see recent comments not top rated comments. sometimes when people post comments on videos they dont even show up! all yu see is a bunch of comments from 19 hours ago (literally) Put it back to the way it was. i cant stress that enough
What the heck is wrong with you, Youtube? You're ruining your website. My friends and I just found out about it, and a few of them got really upset. Not a single one liked these changes.
What's the point of doing this? The like/dislike thing is stupid, I think stars are better. And keep the comments the way they are, not give unnecessary attention to just a few.
Unless YouTube plans on adding an additional use for the drop-down menu alongside queue adding, I agree with Jinitron that adding videos to the queue should be 1-click again.
Oh my god, you have got to be shitting me. They absolutely RUINED the comment/rating system. Why the hell is there this ugly gray box behind the videos? Why not put a link to the actual channel right next to the video? This ''update'' will reduce channel views and commments. Please change it back.
But here's something that clearly isn't funny. The "recommended videos" part of the new feed is showing some rather offensive content. It's no better than the original recommended videos. I want to turn this off for good. How do I do it?
The only thing I would have liked to see kept the same way was the 'open in new window' design. I have two monitors and I tend to have one screen with a full-screen of a youtube clip and the other with everything else I'm doing. It won't stay full-screened if it's not opened in a new window.
Im beginning to think that youtube likes the idea of less channel comments and views. I think their aim is to completely rid the site of its social standing. I think they want to turn the site into another "google video." I seriously believe that is their plan. Its fine with me though. If the site doesn't wish to be a social site anymore, I have no problems with moving on to another social site. I'll miss you youtube. I guess the saying is true; All good things come to an end. The beginning was when they dropped the bulletin feature a year or so ago. There were plenty of public outcries then, and youtube turned their nose up at them. Im sure they will do the same with these comments. Oh well..
I absolutely love the new layout. I had a hard time finding out how to display the new view until I searched Google and found a link in someones post. The next day I decided that I wanted to rate a video the old way and switched back to the Old YouTube. Promise I'll never do that again! I struggled to get the new layout back for about an hour until I finally found this blog and this post.
I shared the opt-in link on Twitter and Buzz. Now I'm set and a very happy camper again.
I think this is really great for podcasters like myself. It makes view all of collection much more accessible. The old view seemed to highlight other related videos too much.
Thanks for these changes and I'll be following this blog from now on. @Ileane
I like the new video page but now I am getting a white blank ,screen behind the video playing. All the features are gone and I have no way to view the next video. If I hit the back button, it stays for 1 second and I am back to the blank screen. How do I get the features back?
Fuck you Google, change me back to the old comments page NOW. I do NOT want to participate in this. I will NOT stop the evil part of me until you change me back, ya hear?!
Since I have no other place to complain about this, I want to ask wtf happened to the recommended videos section? It was never particularly good, but it is a complete joke now. I'm getting a boxing match recommended because I watched a sci-fi show before. And that's not the worst. What's that about? I'm pretty much at the point where I'm deleting everything on my home page except for my subscriptions.
I have a 50% chance liking the New YouTube layout.
My Likes
1. well The video's likes and dislikes are ok, but why doesn't It say 1 like or dislike? 2. I sorta like the New group layout but It needs to have links working. 3. I like the video page of uploads on the New video layout.
My Dislikes
1. I can't see the Negative comments, and the Positive +1 comments. 2. I didn't like the missing video pages on related videos. 3. The @replies seems to turn into GameSpot and Twitter for some reason.
I think it would be beneficial if we were allowed to see the ratings of youtube videos before you yourself rate it, that way we can tell if a video is worth watching or not before we view it. It kind of defeats the purpose. All in all, i think the new layout will work for some, and will not for others, and it should be optional whether you want to use the current layout or the new one. It's kind of like a step back.
Having tried both layouts, I have to say that the new interface actually feels a little MORE cluttered. Some parts are OK, like the new layout for the viewing statistics, but there are others that really feel unfinished and rushed. Why is the only way to switch the comments chronologically vs. highlights such a small "show all" link (not talking about the page with only comments)? Why do I need to hover over comments to see something as basic as how long ago it was posted? In trying to make things "flow better," you've ended up with a layout that tries to do too much. If you feel that the interface needs fixing, REFINE IT one part at a time, rather than replacing everything with something new. In trying to tackle everything at once, you've ended up with a design that looks fancy(ish), but doesn't have the functionality to back it up, and we can tell.
I opted in to this new layout yesterday (or the day before, I forgot) and have now had some time to play around with it some. I really like most of these new features and enhancements that have been made, listing all of the things I like would be a big chore so I'll just make a list of things I think could be improved upon:
- "next subscription" autoplay feature. This is generally a great feature that should definitely stay as I do think a lot of people will like it. However there are 2 improvements to be made to this. + First of all there needs to be a way for the on/off setting to be persistent. I personally don't want them to autoplay because I like to comment on videos and so it gets really annoying having the page reload to another video when you forgot to turn it off for the currently watching video. + The second thing that needs to be ironed out is that when a video gets played through this box, it will still show up in your actual subscription box. I think it would be better to clear a video from your subscription box on the main page whenever you watch that video - however you may have reached it.
- Comments section is generally nice, but it feels a little cluttered at the time. + First, the message really needs to be below the username, and not start directly next to it. Having it below it requires a little more screen space to see all the comments, but it's a lot more readable this way. + The replies need to have some sort of indent to them, to give the comment section more of a threaded feel. Right now it's very unclear what someone is replying to.
- Leave a little more space between the "View all comments" link and the footer. Right now there's a line to separate these but I find they're still a bit close together. Just needs to be a tad further apart.
That's all input I have for now I believe, I apologize for the long comment and anyone who actually reads it has my respect. ;)
Please go back to the old layout. I can't stand the comments section. Like somebody who commented before me said, I will not be commenting or rating videos on youtube anymore. Hell, I might not come back on here period if it's not changed back or at least gives people the option to choose which layout they want. How come I'm automatically "opted-in"? I didn't ask for this.
Are you getting the message yet, YouTube? People HATE your new page designs and the new beta stuff you're cramming down many of our throats and we want the old YouTube back for good!
Btw, since YouTube isn't that profitable, maybe you should take some of that "development money" you're wasting on it and put it in your bank accounts instead for a rainy day because you're just pissing off millions of YouTube users everyday with the supposedly "new & improved" features.
Of course, most people won't bother to come here and rant about how much they hate the new YouTube because most people don't even know this blog exists or even have an account to make comments on this page if they did.
But regular users would comment in droves, if they could easily do so. As a matter of fact, I dare you to put a link on every new beta page asking regular YouTube users for a thumbs up or thumbs down on the new design and features.
But I know you won't do that because your servers couldn't handle the amount of people who would be clicking the thumbs down button every day.
What I really hope is that some enterprising young web designer will open a new video site that closely approximates the old YouTube. If that happens, I'm sure people will flock to that other site by the millions, making YouTube even more of a money drain on Google.
Common theme here is definitely "stop trying to fix what ain't broke". Though the changes made are so ridiculous, one can't help but think there must be some hidden agenda. I mean Web Developers can't be THAT incompetent can they? No one asked for these changes. Any indication otherwise is purely a lie.
Rather than waste precious time highlighting all the horrible changes in the new design which many others have graciously done and for which I am thankful (but which evidently won't even be considered though Youtube makes laughable claims that it actually listens to user Feedback), I'll make it simple for everyone: Just REVERSE everything you did. Period.
Btw, when restoring View All Comments to a threaded format (I'm assuming god himself will come down from the heavens and make this change back himself), add the OPTION to view all comments on a single page in order from oldest to most recent so it matches the flow of the threaded comments. And yeah, no one likes roll-over things. Display the dates the comments were posted, number of thumbs up/down, etc. CLEARLY on the page, all in view. Any competent web designer can figure out how to do this without giving it a cluttered look without resorting to hiding and omitting info.
OK...As someone who runs a food channel, the one thing I hate the most about this is the removal of the sidebar and replacing it with something below the video. If I decide to post the recipe along the side, it used to open up in a way where my viewers could still view the video and the recipe at the same time. Now, they'd have to scroll down to see the recipe, missing the video entirely.
This seems like a very haphazard upgrade, just so you can say, "OMG! Shiny and new!" Everything looks all sleek, with menus and such, but I'd rather not search for stuff. I'd rather it in my face. The yellow subscribe button...the 5 stars rating system...the ease of readability in the comments system. The whole thing is just so cluttered. This new page makes my viewing experience harder to enjoy. I enjoy seeing the crappy comments. I enjoy going back to a video again and again to see new comments. The way comments are in this horrible Beta...you MUST go to the "see all comments" page to see the newest comments. Why? they used to be easy to read, right below the video.
Think of it this way...You buy a house, but it's missing something...so, you build a new room onto the house. It's finished, and you invite your friends over to see the new room. They all love it. Then you decide that your TV is outdated, so you buy a brand new HDTV. You invite your friends over for a movie night. They love the TV. Then you decide that the house isn't what you wanted after all. You liked what you had in the house, but not the house itself. So, you move, but you end up into a smaller house. You have to consolidate stuff. Your bedroom becomes the TV room too. The kitchen and living room become one, with the couch sitting right next to the fridge. Your garage ends up being where your kids have to play, so you have to park in the driveway. You only have one bathroom, so everyone has to share. It just feels cluttered now, but you love it. You have your friends over to show your brand new house off, and they all keep running into each other. There's a line for the bathroom, when you're cooking, you keep banging into your guests on the couch when you go into the fridge, and people hate having to sit on your bed to watch the brand new 52" HDTV you bought.
Now, envision the best of both worlds. You end up finding a house that can fit everything you have, is not cluttered, and your friends won't end up banging into each other when more than 3 people are over. This would be ideal.
Take that metaphor and apply it to the page redesign. You kept adding features to the original page, and I agree that it did look a bit haphazard with everything just tacked on wherever you could find space. That being said, try to find something on the new page, and you have to search because 5 things are in the same room. I'm a fan of one room, one use. I like my kitchen to be for cooking and eating, and my living room or family room/den to be for sitting, chatting, and watching TV, never the tween to meet. This "great room" concept is horrible. Same thing for YT. Seeing everything "flow" doesn't work for me. It just gets confusing. Where does one thing start and another stop?
I say, just clean up the page the way is was. maybe move a few things on the screen, but don't remove the 5 star system, which is invaluable to video producers. Thumbs up and thumbs down is only a viable rating device if you're able to explain yourself. Leave that to Siskel and Ebert. Keep everything out in the open. Don't make people search.
Autoplay is surely the most ridiculous idea You Tube has ever come up with?... even surpassing the "Beta channel design fiasco" and "removing the video view count" stupidity. Thank God the You Tube community were able to overturn the last one through sheer weight of complaints.
Why does You Tube/Google want to constantly alienate the people that used to love it by engineering ridiculous upgrades that appear to be written by retarded monkeys?
- hmm whats with the playlist link in the user dropdown menu? or the quicklist "quicklink" on top? i miss them ^^ - this "liked/unliked", favorites, and star rating system is too much! i think it would be much better to have only one of this rating methods.. - over all i think it's better to keep the old youtube page ^^
ok, the change that is upsetting me the most is that my YouTube account has gone completely haywire after i switched! i'm not able to change any of my settings, read messages, approve channel comments and most of the buttons on the page aren't working. is anybody else running into these issues??
Not sure if they're related directly to the new video pages or not, but a couple annoying technical problems cropped up around the same time:
- Videos now have a habit of freezing on a frame for a few seconds while the audio plays, then the video jumps ahead to catch up. The only way around this is to watch in full screen.
- Videos I upload seem to be taking a lot longer for 480P HQ to become available. I set my videos to Private when I upload them and don't make them public until this mode is ready to go.
Count me among the non-fans of the subscription-list Auto Play.
Also, I think the rating systems should be interconnected, so that a "Like" rating becomes a 5* rating. Right now, when I watch a video and select "Like," then when I go back to a page where I can see the star rating it still says "No Rating." Apparently I have to go find the video and watch it in the user's channel page to apply a star rating, which is quite time-consuming.
I completely hate the new video page. It's very confusing to find other videos by the same user now, and i liked how on the video page, you had a small banner with the user's pic/info/subscribe button in the corner with video info with his other videos under him. All of that is gone now. It used to be so easy and organized. Now its just weird. I dont like having to hover over people's comments to get an option to do something and like other people here, I dont like the no-indent thing after the comments and the commenter's username.
It looks like you guys went back to some old-school "what it woulda looked like when we first started" theme across the board. It looked so much better before. Not sure if i'll be using this site as much if it stays this way.
It is a nice design, but far too white. We need some borders on the comments, videos and other things. The description needs to be on the right again. Fix the reply system. Make the video size 1280x720 for monitors that can handle such a resolution, recreate the video controls (They're fugly), something like vimeo or Quicktime X would be nice, also add a Original Res button on the video, it used to have it but it was removed. WHY?? It was great. Also since it is a new design why not have the video HTML5 ONLY! No more Flash, Old users can upgrade to Chrome or Safari, IE9 when it comes out will also support it.
The purpose of the new video page is to make related videos confusing (it's not even labeled anymore). The related videos of partners leads to the videos of the same partner or to other partners, so that non-partners don't get views.
Sorry youtube I am here to watch user content not just your partners and adds. If you want to make money follow the DMCA by the book which includes acknowledging fair use, not trying to defraud people.
I've always liked YouTube and promoted it to others, but the new AutoPlay feature whic apparently cannot be turned off is without doubt one of the most stupid, moronic, self-absorbed features I've ever seen. My main distinguishing feature, which I've written about in the local newspaper is that YouTube is not like the old-school television networks who think of their users as people who need to have content shoved down their throat. What I thought was respecting your users seems to be nothing more than "we didn't know technically how to show you how much we don't give a fuck".
-Comment Section: Overall it's terrible +There needs to be an indentation on replies. The @user thing doesn't work and I would prefer for the comments not to start directly next to the users name but one line under like before. +The area where you write your comment needs to go to the bottom of the page again. When it's at the bottom you had to scroll past some of the comments and at the very least glance over them. This promotes more conversation and comments between users. +Putting "highest rated" and "uploader comments" before actual user comments is bad. It doesn't promote conversation amongst the community and makes it hard to actually see what people are saying. I prefer to see what at least a portion of the community is talking about without having to click view all comments +I'm glad you made comment ratings visible again but I don't like having to scroll over the comment to rate it. That stuff should visible from the get-go just like before.
-Video Info/ Features Bar: Overall Terrible +The info bar should be on the right side again. Having it under the video makes it almost impossible to view even a medium size "Video Description" while still watching the video. For videos that have things like the lyrics or links to things they're discussing this is very bad move. +I'm glad you separated Favorite and Like but the 5 Star rating system is still far superior to Like/Dislike. Some videos are enjoyable but not 5 Star material. +On the subject of Like/Dislike, I would like to be able to see how highly a video is rated before watching it or at least before I rate it myself. +When I scroll over something such as the Video Description it gets highlighted in Blue. I don't like this. On longer videos I tend to move my mouse every once in awhile to keep my computer from entering sleep mode or dimming the screen. Blue highlights are distracting. +On the subject of distracting things, all of these pop up items are annoying. I scroll over a comment and a thumbs up/down thing appears drawing my eye to it. I scroll over the like button and large black speech bubble appears over it distracting me once again. Trim down on these pop-up items or at least make them less noticeable so I can focus on the video.
-Next In Queue: Interesting Idea but one I personally do not like or need +Being able to go to my next subscription video is nice if the subscription bar actually worked and didn't keep sending me old videos. At least fix the x button next to subscription videos so I can remove them again. +The Auto-Play is a complete and utter failure. You claim you're working on a way to keep Auto-Play off. Well please hurry. This preference should be saved because I don't always want to see the next video the instant the other ends. +You added a button next to Play that sends us to the next video in our list. Even scrolling over that button causes another distracting Blue highlight to show up on screen and the button really doesn't need to be there at all. Perhaps move it over to the actual play list instead of on the video play bar itself.
-Related Videos: Kinda confused on this change +For awhile you guys seemed obsessed with adding a scroll bar to everything so why exactly did you remove the scroll bar in related videos? Not really a huge change but just kind of odd.
-OVERALL FEELINGS A lot of these changes seem unnecessary at best and a complete failure at worst. The comments are definitely in need of a big change from your current Beta plans as right now they seem incredibly cluttered and unorganized. The highlighting issue may be less noticeable to most but one that's really bugging me. The Like/Dislike Rating system is a big step down. I would prefer none of these changes be enacted but I know thats not going to happen. Please ACTUALLY LISTEN to people's feedback and though it didn't happen to me, you should never force someone into a beta.
I'm beginning to notice glitches in the "view all comments" page WITHOUT TRYING. Is this fun to you, YouTube? Torturing your users with unwanted shit that they never wanted?
Well, here's something for ya: IT ISN'T FUN. It's annoying. The new format is HORRENDOUS. I won't stop yelling at you FUCKING BASTARDS until you REVERT ME BACK TO THE OLD FORMAT.
And here's my thoughts on me being forced into the beta test program: FUCK. YOU.
First off I didn't choose to beta test, I just visited the site on my computer and it was already there. I was, and still is, unhappy about it.
Auto play
-I don't like the auto play function, sometimes it plays videos that I don't want to watch at the time.
Comments
- I don't like the comment section. It is too unorganized. I also miss seeing when the comments were posted.
Viewing page layout
-The layout of the viewing pages are also strange. The list of videos on the side of the page are distracting while I try to watch the video. I prefer the suggestion/ other user's videos lists to be lower on the screen.
Subcription button/video discription
- I prefer the subcription button and video discription on the upper right side of the page.
Video pages overall
-Overall the viewing pages are too messy and unorganized. The pages were much better without the changes.
Playlist
-The playlist option could be better. I like when I can view the videos on the playlist. That way I can choose which ones I want to view and in which order.
Notes
-I don't like the new layout. I find it to be confusing and it makes my experience unenjoyable. If the changes are permanent, please consider offering the option to keep the old layout.

Not only is the "view all comments" page now impossible to follow and respond to in any meaningful way, but the annoying idiot you have in this video needs some lessons in learning to talk at a normal rate, stop wiggling his head, and have a shave before turning the camera on.
Youtube, don't fix something that isn't even broken. You "upgraded" the comment section of videos and rating systems when in fact you made it so alienating and confusing, and above all things, COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.
I am sorry but the old version be better. We are much to hate this new version. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were.
Im not going to read what other people commented but here is my gripes with hew page: First i can't press right mouse button on youtube logo and chose open in new tab, right mouse button does nothing on logo (ff 3.5 on Linux) and this is not cool. Section highes rate comments should not allow to rate those comments, cause that will just keep couple comments above everything else. Not very objective. Also removing option to read all comments from video page is not nice, really uncomfortable. Third this layout shows less informaton at the same time: in previous layout you could see video description (sidebar) and video honors at same time, you cant do this at new one, well this might be a minor but still, i dont think its nice. Also there seem to be no way to see unloaders "avatar" when watching a video, why? (I'd say it lets more easily identify known unloaders). Thats it for this time
WISH I could come in and rearrange your desks in a way where you had NO say in the matter. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THAT.
These changes are BOGUS and everybody hates them with a passion, un-practical, totally useless changes. It bugs the site, makes things confusing, NOTHING works properly anymore.OH HOW I WISH WE COULD DO THIS TO YOUR WORK SPACES.
I once LOVED youtube, your "design" team is making me hate it more and more, it's like your purposely driving people off the site.
Does anyone even CARE what we the users think??? You know.... the people who MADE youtube what it is.
Goddamn it, YouTube. Why must you insist on constantly changing the layout of your website? It was fine the way it is! Now everything is all awkward and hard to navigate. Stop trying to fix something that isnt broken you stupid shitheads!
This update is by far the worst one yet. It's so complicated to add a video to your favorites now. The color scheme is also horrible. And what's up with the comments. Bleh, just bleh. At least give us the option to update or keep the old layout.
It's a huge mess. I actually liked being able to edit annotations on the video page. Plus if I need to edit info in my videos, the convenience of clicking an "Edit Video" button on the video page no longer exists.
just thought i'd say that whilst i intially hated the Beta changes that happened a few months ago, and still think it shoud have been optional, i got to like it.
This current change i am surprised to say i like it, can't think of anything i don't like about it, maybe the highly rated comments thing, perhaps just keep them in the order they were posted.
Nice Improvement, YouTube. But something is not good here: -The Rating system (Actually 5 stars are better than just "Like/Dislike"). -AutoPlay (haven't tested yet, but it should be so darn annoying). Yet it's good spots are: -The design (it's more elegant, kudos for that). -You kept the player (there is (or was) a small bug although). As the time passes by, the irritated users will be hanging around with the page. Greetings! (PD. Google, shall you sell YouTube now?)
It's not good. Just no. NO! IT'S ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Too many buttons, dropdown overkill, no "Playlist" button at my dropdown userbox, no rating system anymore, just a generic "Like/Dislike" thing. Yes, I disliked the channel page update, but seriously: I'd rather watch videos in the bad channel page than on the HORRIBLE watch page. Oh, they removed the ability to rate a video in the channel watch page? Well, great...
And comment replies are "fixed" horribly. You can't see who replied to which comment. The "@{user}" is useless in that respect if a user has posted multiple comments and it also wastes the letter space.
STOP FIXING WHAT ISN'T BROKEN! Or at least give us a goddamn choice!
New rating system is silly, it's only an excuse to generate lists of links for revenue from social networking sites. I suppose I'm fine with that, I can just stop rating videos. Next...
New home page layout is obnoxious, especially since we no longer have options on our account to configure it. If these options are forthcoming, I can overlook this. Next...
I seem to be permanently opted in. This needs to be fixed before I get around to contacting Russian botnet masters for some happy DDoS fun.
Youtube, let me tell you something straight and simple. You are breaking basic rules of intelligence.
Forcing people into the experiment? If they opt out then obviously THEY DON'T LIKE THE NEW LAYOUT. That's common sense. So by having me here, you're not getting feedback. And some people are forced into it and glitches are ruining they're experience. SO YOU KNOW WHAT! YOU'RE WASTING YOUR OWN MONEY! THEY'LL STOP WATCHING! YOU LOSE PROFITS! YOUR GO UNDER! YOU GO POOF!
I hate the new YouTube. It sucks. Fails. Epically fails. I am extremely annoyed that I didn't get a choice in being a beta. I am stuck with the stupid new YT and I didn't sign up for it. I should be able to opt-out. I'm not a labrat.
Couldn't you simply fix the little things people have asked about without completely dragging the site around all which-way? As many have said; This isn't how you run a site. This is how you ruin it. By pissing off your users.
"STOP FIXING WHAT ISN'T BROKEN! Or at least give us a goddamn choice!"
Yeah, starting to look and act a little bit too much like Facebook around here. Kind of odd since it's not really an independent start-up anymore, should be acting more like Google. (I can't remember the last time Google made a significant layout change to the search engine pages. They work, they look good, so they're left alone. Youtube worked, and Youtube looked good. Past tense.)
I HATE YOU ASSHOLES OVER THERE, SERIOUSLY FUCK YOU
DAMN YOU, IF I SEE A DESIGNER WALKING ACROSS THE STREET I'M NOT EVEN GONNA HIT THE BRAKES.
EAT SHIT YOU CORPORATE BOTTOM FEEDERS, I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE NEVER TO USE ANOTHER GOOGLE PRODUCT, AND ANYONE WHO SPONSORS THIS CRAP WILL BE BOYCOTTED FROM EVERY PART OF MY LIFE. YOU'VE LIT A FIRE UNDER MY ASS, THIS IS PERSONAL NOW. YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKED UP, DAMN YOUUUUUUUUUUUU
Can I have the old layout back? I had no idea this was going on and was very disoriented when I clicked to another page and all of a sudden the website was, for lack of a better term, ugly.
I play drum covers and watch a lot of music covers and live shows on youtube, and the MAIN thing to find good videos or not is to see if the 5 star rating is high or not. and as for my OWN videos, I like to know that I'm a star above the rest not that my video got liked 20 times more than that other guy. the 5 star system is the best way to show quality and to also show which clip is better than the other, because if you think about repeating videos, how are you supposed to differentiate the videos, and some are also FAKE videos and I DO NOT wanna get rick roll'd anymore.
"After reading your comments, we'd like to note that some of you are opted in permanently to the new page, which means you are part of our current experiment and are unable to opt out."
What's your experiment, to see how many of your "subjects" can get pissed off?
How do I opt out of the AutoPlay feature? Or at least give me a way to disable the thing permanently.
ReplyDeleteYes your Opt in and Opt out links are leading to video pages
ReplyDeleteYouTube, just keep the comments the way they are. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were, and everyone will be happier.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to YouTube 0.2, everybody. How it would have looked in the 1990s.
ReplyDeleteSolid updates. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've been using this new page for a while and I'm happy to say that this is the best change that they have made yet!
ReplyDeleteYou finally added visible thumbs up or down for comments, but made the hover over comment menu (Reply, Thumb Up/Down) visible w/out having to place the cursor over the comment. Who reads comments by placing the cursor over comments?
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of Liked Videos, how about making a menu for it under users name? Where is the Playlist and History links? I have to type in the address bar their URL to them.
Also, make the video Thumb Up/Down rating visible even before a user rates the video.
BTW, why is it that on the My Channel Recent Activity feed, it still says I rated 5 stars? When's that going to change to I thumbed up a video?
Great Improvement, the amount of garbage chatter in the comments feed really reflects poorly on the site. The new features should be a great boon to those who appreciate intelligent discourse.
ReplyDeleteI don't like how everything is the same color. It all looks so blah. Nothing really stands out. I also don't like the banner position, it seems hidden.
ReplyDeleteEsta genial la actualizacion. El hecho de no tener que volver a cargar los videos una vez ya cargados. Los nuevos raitings, los subtitulos y el alquiler de peliculas. Felicitaciones. youtube people
ReplyDeleteNo more ratings?? Sorry, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna like this. I hope the "Like-Dislike" buttons won't get abused.
ReplyDeletebtw, how will the videos look like in the video search page? For instance, when I type in "YouTube" in the YouTube search bar and videos come up, will it say how many people like or dislike the video? What will happen to videos currently on here that have thousands of ratings that vary?
I am skeptical, but I hope this turns out ok. I will opt-in and try it out and comment here after I have used it for a while with my opinion.

I HATE the new Youtube page layout!! The old one was SOOOO MUCH better!! PLEASE put it back to the way it was before.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing is a stupid idea.
ReplyDeleteIt was fine the way it was, no-one was complaining.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love a lot of the new page, but I really don't like the comments. I don't like how they appear AFTER the user name instead of under the user name. It makes it feel very cluttered and unorganized.
ReplyDeleteNot liking this new comment highlights. It was better the way it was before. Now my video responses don't show as easily. Another thing that I'm finding annoying is the AutoPlay feature. How do I disable this permanently?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm not a fan of how the "related videos" are combined with "other videos from this user". I would like these two lists to be partitioned as they are now, I see no reason for that to change.
ReplyDeleteOther than that and the comments everything is good.
I really don't like that comment replies to comments are NOT indented anymore. In fact, I believe 2-3 indented layers for replies would help readability.
ReplyDeleteThe current unindented list of comments is very hard to read. Is this a bug?
please fix the Opt-Out feature
ReplyDeleteOh and YouTube - Please bring back the Partner video banners near the Subscribe button
ReplyDeleteI would like to have the yellow subscribe button back on the video pages too.
ReplyDeleteThat was a hard video to watch. A simple changelog would have sufficed.
ReplyDeleteThe updates look fine. I'm a tad worried about the autoplay feature, here's hoping it's an account setting and not a cookie. If I set it off, I want it to stay off.
Will the video controls not be getting an overhaul?
BTW, I HATE the AutoPlay feature! I HATE it 'cause no matter how many times I turn it Off, the bloody thing turns itself On again!
ReplyDeleteI think Comment sections are great, but the order is not so great.
ReplyDeleteRecent comments should be at the top still so that most recent comments get viewed first, then top rated, then author comments.
It is going to get really annoying to get more e-mail replies to Author comments because users will see them more and reply for the sake of replying (for bigger channels).
YouTube, could you please look into these two issues I reported? They are both with the new video page:
ReplyDelete"Activity Sharing doesn't publish new thumbs up/down rating on my Twitter account" http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=769f167e9dcf2f6c&hl=en
"Watched videos in Subscriptions box aren't automatically removed unless clicked on in the Subscriptions box"
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=2db6524fabeb89ab&hl=en

Thanks to YouTube for incorporating some of the feedback you've received on the changes you're making. The community appreciates your listening and responding to our feedback.
ReplyDeleteI echo the comments of people who would love an option to permanently set the Auto-Play feature to Off.
What about video responses?!
ReplyDeletei not sure yet on the new addon. but i like 2 thing to be fix. start off. it is pointless to show my playlist to me. it should show video playlist to other if there a playlist for that video. other thing is auto play is number 1 big problem. i dont like turn it off every time i go see sub video.
ReplyDeletePlz youtube stop lying to yourselves this new design is horrible the comment system is no better.
ReplyDeletehow do you turn off autoplay permanently?
ReplyDeleteWhat, I have to like a video, in order to see, how it's rated?!
ReplyDeleteWhat if I don't like the video? Won't I get to see the ratings then?
But still IF I see the ratings then, what about MEDIOCRE videos?
The "New" (as you call it) desing SUCKS BALLS!!
ReplyDeleteCHANGE IT BACK!! THE CHANNEL CHANGE IS GOOD, BUT THE "NEW" VIDEO PAGE SUCKS!!! GOOGLE, DON'T FIX WHAT ISN'T BROKEN!!!
Youtube is too egotistical to undo any changes. To say they may have implemented a few feature which needs detracting? Le gasp, never.
ReplyDeleteIntegrating "More Videos by User" and "Related Videos" is a slap in the face.
The "Comments" section is ridiculous. I won't be Rating or Commenting on Videos any longer.
All changes make perusing on Mobile useless.
ReplyDeleteI despise AutoPlay.
ReplyDeleteThe video info textbox is to small, and I miss the 5 star rating system, I think, that the thumps down part will be used in a wrong way and abused.
ReplyDeleteThe only great thing in the new setup, is the top part over the video where you can scrool a channels video's, But this feature will also mean fewer direct visits to the video channels (so why should a channel owner try to make anything nice in there, but use the standard grey channel layout).
ReplyDeleteAlso, what's up with the @replies and #tags? YouTube is starting to look more and more like Twitter every day....
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that comments that get a lot of "Thumbs-Up" votes go up to the top of the comments page is very bad. Spammers could put stupid stuff and vote their comments up the page.
Sorry if I sound critical, I just want to put my 2 cents in. YouTubers need to voice their opinions about important issues such as this.

I really liked the favorite button being its own button :( :( :(
ReplyDeletei'm too lazy to click twice >:|
I can haz separate favorite button back???
I'm having trouble viewing comments.
ReplyDeleteI can only see most recent page. Other comment pages are either not view able or only partially viewable. Tried Explorer, firefox, and safari.

Hi im john but on youtube im spartan2194 the homepage is weird and it says the feed then people who uploaded or favor'd videos basically the homepage is fucked up have it back to the way it ways idk if its just me or not but goddamn it i want answers and not a crappy homepage
ReplyDeleteYouTube, just keep the comments the way they are. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were, and everyone will be happier. Also auto-play needs not to work all the time. Please add a button for permanent no. Everything else is good :)
ReplyDeleteI like the play method of the new youtube, but the new home sucks. I miss the section where all the new videos from my subscriptions went. The list is so confusing and it misses videos that have been posted
ReplyDeleteFinally! Some word from the team. Not completely staisfying, but better than total darkness!!! There must be millions and bajillions of people out there who have been clamoring for this redesign - I sure do wish I knew who they were! Everyone everywhere I have been able to look has been so negative.
ReplyDeleteThis rewire is confusing.
It is a great pleasure to meet new friends in this world so close through a keyboard.
ReplyDeleteRegards

have a nice day !! and hope you can add my link Please
ReplyDeleteMany Comment Fixs: Alternate threads w/ two colors, ENFORCE the @UserName, Quoting, Thread ordering, & more.
ReplyDelete2 simple changes, that will go a long way.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnd not only that, but, by allowing it to go two quotes deep, you encourage conversation. Think of it like this, if I reply to someone, I not only "reveal" his comment on the video watch page, but my own that he replied to! This would encourage people to comment even more.
ReplyDelete(12) 1st Page GOLD comments.
3
@3 4
@4 10
@4 7
@3 6
@3 5
8
@8 9
1
@1 2
ReplyDeleteGreat job, guys and gals,
Like a few other people have said, the comments now seem very cluttered. The lack of division, ala a horizontal line like it was before, adds to that cluttered feeling. It's pretty much impossible for me to read them as they are now. :/
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete,,..,видео,.,
Yes such a very good video. thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteSms Messages
My above post is mostly commentary to spruce up the "All Comments" page I made before today's newer stuff.
ReplyDeleteSo, in reply to today's stuff.
The drop down at the top of the page by my name. I definitely want History back, and Liked.
As for the main video page.
I like the top bar. But there's a lot of wasted space up there IMO. I would like to compress it a bit so there's not as much scrolling up and down to watch the video I just clicked from it.
I'd go:
[Uploader] [Subscribe] [Video ##] [Views] [Embed] [Flag]
[ < [Video] [Video] [Video] [Video] > ]
ReplyDeleteThis covers all public options.
Jinitron: text text text (very old comment)
@Jinitron, YTuber123: text text text (very old comment)
@YTuber123, Jinitron: text text text (BRAND NEW COMMENT!!)
shame on youtube for forcing autoplay.
ReplyDeletei wish eyelid cancer to whoever thought of this feature.
Is there a way to make it possible to remove old videos by clicking the box and selecting a remove or delete option from the menu? I like being subscribed but I don't always watch all of the videos.
ReplyDeleteAnd Yes, please, to opting out of auto play.
Every single change in the past two years seem to have been for the worse.
ReplyDeleteYouTube, just remove the fucking autoplay completely. NOBODY is happy about it.
I opted in to the new page for good voluntarily. I figured I'll give myself a lot of time to get used to it, and I'm slowly starting to learn and adapt to it.
ReplyDeleteI'd like a way to disable the autoplay feature permanently.
THE NEW HOMEPAGE FEED IS DUMB!!
ReplyDeleteit was the ONLY way I could see my new subscribtion videos cause when I click the subscription page it only gives me videos of a small portion of users I subscribed to that are loaded three or four days ago, when I know there are users I subscribed to have uploaded in the past few hours, but on the old homepage module they would all show up
step in a good direction with the new video page layout woo

Please, instead of having the @(a YouTube name) could you do as it was before?
ReplyDeleteLike when the reply was under the comment?
I think you guys should add 3 "Highest rated comments" instead of 2. It doesn't look right...
ReplyDeleteAny chance of adding an edit button to the comments? Because THAT would be fantastic! I hate not being able to edit my comments, and if I delete the post to type a new one it still shows as a delete which is really annoying. Can't you change so that the comment disapears all together? Or add an edit button either way I would be very very happy =)
ReplyDeletei dont see next in supcription ?
ReplyDeleteits a good chance the only thing it's a easy playlist in the video page
Wow. Doesn't seem too many people are happy about these changes, does it?
ReplyDeleteRarely have I seen a website do so much to screw up a user interface such as what YouTube has "accomplished" over the last few months.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't enough that you had to make all our channels more complicated, less intuitive and generally obnoxious looking, but now you've gone overboard by "fixing" the video page layouts that weren't broken to begin with.
Please stop fixing what isn't broke!
I agree with what many people here have been saying.
ReplyDeleteYoutube Dev's constant ADD with the website design is getting more & more frustrating EACH AND EVERY SINGLE TIME they decide they're bored of how something works and decides to change it, only to make it worse than how it already was.
Each and every time Youtube Maintenance occurs, people unanimously have the same mindset on twitter: "Ok, what's Youtube going to break this time?"
More often than not, you never fail to deliver as something else winds up not working or being deimproved. You add 1 shiny new feature and break 2 existing features. Please, enough is enough.
Put the comments back the way they were before and STOP TRYING TO FIX THINGS THAT AREN'T BROKEN!
Cant youtube just be like Youtube in 2007?!
ReplyDeleteWhile I do not necessary enjoy this new video page layout, I hope you'll consider what I have to say about it.
ReplyDeleteThe largest problem we all have is readability.
ReplyDelete"Many of you indicated that comments could use an overhaul and hoped that was a part of the redesign."
I have this weird, nagging feeling that that's just a phony excuse to carry on with this.
ReplyDelete- I agree with the majority here that the comments section could use some changes; personally I like it chronologically ordered and find myself just skipping past the top rated comments.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a mess...
What was wrong with the previous Youtube version?
Oh my, what is this.... I don't even... Ugh.
ReplyDeleteIt cannot be denied the new layout sucks.
ReplyDeleteRight now block user it's block user like block user reading block user this block user and block user it block users sucks block user!
Ok, I hate the autoplay thing, it's annoying as hell... hate it that I have to disable it always when I watch a video...
ReplyDeleteYes, the new watchpage changes are great. And yes, the autoplay default sucks!
ReplyDeletethank god i have the old layout back, was not funny to be a test person with out asking, for me it did not work for more then one week, i could not rate i could not fav, or click any button of the new one ... i could only watch ... and it took me 4 more clicks to come to my history ....
ReplyDeleteso far i prefer the old one
and can you pls inform users ...when you use us as tester, was totally confused as i noticed other ppl could still use the old one and i had to deal with the new not working one
thanks
pls pls pls keep the old one
btw i surfe with explorer
I want to type comment in my first language Urdu:
ReplyDeleteاردو میں پیغام کیسے بھیجوں؟
Your new "improvements" don't allow us. In older version it was possible. Looks like in "improved" version, English is mandatory.
Fuck you ladies and Gentleman!
FUCKING SHIT OF YOUTUBE DESIGN, MY ADDONS DON'T WORK IN THIS FUCKING DESIGN.
ReplyDeleteYou know youtube, I found the five star rating system MUCH more reliable than the like/dislike most liked system.
ReplyDeleteWhat drug were you guys on when you totally RUINED all comments view for those of us who actually like discussing the video? Everyone who likes to comment or discuss videos has been complaining day after day after day and complaining, but you are completely ignoring us. There are even videos now with hundreds of comments describing how HORRIBLY UNUSABLE you new all comments view is.
ReplyDeleteIs the new "all comments" view a way to discourage discussions, like a subtle form of sensorship?
ReplyDeleteNow, the choice of "old youtube" DOES NOT WORK! SHIT! CAN NOT DO ANYTHING WELL, WHY!?
ReplyDeleteYou stupid idiots... the 'x' to close videos I've already watched in my subscription update list stopped working. Now to erase the ones I've watched them I gotta watch them and go back to main page. This is highly impractical, that 'x' used to work fine and permitted you to create quicklists with the updates of the day.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd let you know. Morons.
I hope God will MELT YOUR KNEES WIHT ACID
ReplyDeleteNO1 LIKES THE NEW BETA VIDEO FORMAT (expect MAYBE TheWillofDC) THIS IS JUST LIKE YOUTUBE BETA CHANEL 2.0 (NO 1 LIKES IT, EVERYONE TELLS GOOGLE THEY DON'T LIKE IT AND GOOGLE DOS IT ANYWAYS!) WHATEVER HAPPENED TO "Don't be evil!" (Google's corporate motto) COS FORCING US INTO THIS NEW VIDEO FORMAT IS (you gesed it) EVIL!
ReplyDeleteThe new video page format is 80% pathetic. you make the comments side extremely horrible.
ReplyDeleteFirst thing, you reduced ratings from 5 stars to thumbs up or down. what in the hell are you guys doing????????? copying twitter and facebook!?!?! make your own identity by creating something new.
The new page is absolutely awful.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely despise it.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind being opted in for beta as I beta test of software very heavily and like to try new things, but I do believe it was wrong to have been opted in and not even been given the common courtesy of a message informing me of it. Someone jumped the gun here in many areas.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely horrible.
ReplyDeleteI spent about 3 hours typing a detailed report on why each of these things will cause such mass account deletions, for example the random pop-up overlays which are THE MOST ANNOYING THING ON THE INTERNET and for the most part are only used by advertising companies because all other sites know damn well no one wants to be subjected to such shit and no one enjoys being unable to use a site due to random things popping up wherever you move your mouse, but YouTube apparently prefers for people to be unable to use their website.
ReplyDeleteIs there an explaination as to why there is no longer a link to the "home" page. Are you actively discouraging people (like me) from using it as a base? If so, what exactly is it that your are "encouraging" us to use instead?
Where are the comments of supporters of the redesign on this page? (or any other forum, for that matter?)
Sigh....
I posted something earlier, but I forgot to mention something else.
ReplyDeleteI realize that the object of this redesign is to simplify the page, but the lack of borders and sections makes it all seem thrown together.
ReplyDeleteBy all gods, PLEASE leave the way it is now as an option, something. Anything new you seem to add or change here is absolutely HORRIBLE.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to bother making YouTube worse (like you guys seem good at, and you are pros at bad decisions), at least let the people decide what looks best, because you clearly can't do that for us.
ReplyDeleteDon't turn your back on the community youtube! Listen to us! Keep things the way that they are! Do not go with this beta crap. People love youtube because of the way it is now! Change in this stage of the game will only hurt profits! Trust me!
ReplyDeleteIf anything, bring back the old bulletins!
ReplyDeleteOH FUCK YOU. I do NOT want to beta test this shit. I never wanted to. Get me the FUCK out of this, NOW. I want my old, clean YouTube back.
@Quadunit404
ReplyDeleteHey tell me about your experience as I have not installed it yet and reading your comment make me think twice as it doesn't look good. Should I use it??
Pandora console
NO. Do NOT use this layout. It's cluttered, ugly, filled with too many useless features (as always), and is littered with bugs (as always). Also, any latency between replies is lost, due to the lack of proper alignment between comments.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I managed to get rid of the beta watch page before they forced me to use the new comments page by deleting cookies. Soon after I posted how to kill it, they forced me into using the new comment page against my will. This isn't how you run a site, YouTube.
...What happened to the YouTube of 2006 and 2007... back when it was GOOD...
hate the new design. disgusting
ReplyDeleteI want my old tube back!
ReplyDeleteI just hope my comment would make a change to get the old design back at least as an option!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm having problems with loading videos now even though I REINSTALLED Adobe Flash Player and cleared my temporary files repeatedly :(
Vimeo's website is so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteThe new "view all comments" page is possibly the WORST "improvement" you've ever made. By removing indentation you have DESTROYED the ability to distinguish threads. Thus, people can no longer carry on proper conversations.
ReplyDeletePLEASE, YouTube, put back the indentation.
ReplyDeletehttp://chainfriend.com/blog.php?user=monikasood&blogentry_id=16
ReplyDeleteI'm really hatin' on this new comment set up. I'm looking at a video right now that says it has 24 comments, but only 18 are showing. It's a video tribute to someone who passed away, and not all the comments from well wishers is showing up. This is stupid. Whoever thought of this?
ReplyDeleteSomeone fix this.
ReplyDeleteThe two highest rated comments on a video I recently watched had their text hidden, flagged as Spam. On unhiding them, these were comments giving facts with citations that refuted another commenter, that someone had falsely spam-flagged.
ReplyDeleteMany other replies to the latter commenter were similarly falsely spam-flagged.
Oh well.
Concerning Autoplay,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the function, but right now it is actually just pissing me off.
Thanks!
Subscriptions is broken.
ReplyDeleteI can't x out videos and videos from people i'm not subscribed to keep appearing.
I basically like the new page layout but now I am finding the page blank except for the video box and I can't get it to fully load on the page.
ReplyDelete@Kevin Jonson (above): "Great Improvement, the amount of garbage chatter in the comments feed really reflects poorly on the site. The new features should be a great boon to those who appreciate intelligent discourse"
ReplyDeleteHello?
I see this trend all over the net."
ReplyDeleteThanks for agreeing. This is a definite step backwards from the old watch pages.
Problems I am having:
ReplyDelete- the drop shadow of the hover rating for the comments is staying after I move my cursor away.
- the autoplay won't stay off, it keeps coming on for each video
- in the subscriptions box on my homepage, I CANNOT DELETE VIDEOS, this is REALLY ANNOYING!
In case you would like to know, I am using an iMac with Safari. I will see if I have these problems on other browsers.
Fix the comment system. put it back to the way it was. we want to see recent comments not top rated comments. sometimes when people post comments on videos they dont even show up! all yu see is a bunch of comments from 19 hours ago (literally)
ReplyDeletePut it back to the way it was. i cant stress that enough
Oh my god. What have you done.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is wrong with you, Youtube? You're ruining your website. My friends and I just found out about it, and a few of them got really upset. Not a single one liked these changes.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the point of doing this? The like/dislike thing is stupid, I think stars are better. And keep the comments the way they are, not give unnecessary attention to just a few.
Unless YouTube plans on adding an additional use for the drop-down menu alongside queue adding, I agree with Jinitron that adding videos to the queue should be 1-click again.
ReplyDeleteNeeds an ability to turn off AutoPlay. I only want to watch one video at a time.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, you have got to be shitting me. They absolutely RUINED the comment/rating system. Why the hell is there this ugly gray box behind the videos? Why not put a link to the actual channel right next to the video? This ''update'' will reduce channel views and commments. Please change it back.
ReplyDeleteBut here's something that clearly isn't funny. The "recommended videos" part of the new feed is showing some rather offensive content. It's no better than the original recommended videos. I want to turn this off for good. How do I do it?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I would have liked to see kept the same way was the 'open in new window' design. I have two monitors and I tend to have one screen with a full-screen of a youtube clip and the other with everything else I'm doing. It won't stay full-screened if it's not opened in a new window.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIm beginning to think that youtube likes the idea of less channel comments and views. Oh well..
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the new layout.
ReplyDeleteI shared the opt-in link on Twitter and Buzz. Now I'm set and a very happy camper again.
I think this is really great for podcasters like myself. It makes view all of collection much more accessible. The old view seemed to highlight other related videos too much.
Thanks for these changes and I'll be following this blog from now on.
@Ileane
Auto-play is a terrible idea, please get rid of it indefinately
ReplyDeleteMy Wii is part of the Experiment.
ReplyDeleteI like the new video page but now I am getting a white blank ,screen behind the video playing. All the features are gone and I have no way to view the next video. If I hit the back button, it stays for 1 second and I am back to the blank
ReplyDeletescreen. How do I get the features back?
Fuck you Google, change me back to the old comments page NOW. I do NOT want to participate in this. I will NOT stop the evil part of me until you change me back, ya hear?!
ReplyDeleteFUCK. YOU.
ReplyDeleteI have a 50% chance liking the New YouTube layout.
ReplyDeleteMy Likes
1. well The video's likes and dislikes are ok, but why doesn't It say 1 like or dislike?
I think the New YT layout is ok. ;)
ReplyDeleteYoutube BETA!!! A step back from the sight we once loved!!! (By the way, idiotic youtube workers, that is SARCASM!)
ReplyDeleteHaving tried both layouts, I have to say that the new interface actually feels a little MORE cluttered.
ReplyDeleteAutoplay has to go.
ReplyDeleteGood LORD Youtube, what have you done? It's just positively awful, really. Why would you want to ruin your own website?
ReplyDeleteI opted in to this new layout yesterday (or the day before, I forgot) and have now had some time to play around with it some. I really like most of these new features and enhancements that have been made, listing all of the things I like would be a big chore so I'll just make a list of things I think could be improved upon:
ReplyDelete- "next subscription" autoplay feature.
That's all input I have for now I believe, I apologize for the long comment and anyone who actually reads it has my respect. ;)

ReplyDeletePlease go back to the old layout.
ReplyDeleteAre you getting the message yet, YouTube? People HATE your new page designs and the new beta stuff you're cramming down many of our throats
ReplyDeleteand we want the old YouTube back for good!
What a mess. What a mess. What an awful mess.
ReplyDeleteCommon theme here is definitely "stop trying to fix what ain't broke".
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very haphazard upgrade, just so you can say, "OMG!
ReplyDeleteWhy does You Tube/Google want to constantly alienate the people that used to love it by engineering ridiculous upgrades that appear to be written by retarded monkeys?
- hmm whats with the playlist link in the user dropdown menu? or the quicklist "quicklink" on top? i miss them ^^
ReplyDelete- this "liked/unliked", favorites, and star rating system is too much! i think it would be much better to have only one of this rating methods..
- over all i think it's better to keep the old youtube page ^^
Go Car and Sexy Girl
ReplyDeleteHate it Hate it Hate it!
ReplyDeleteok, the change that is upsetting me the most is that my YouTube account has gone completely haywire after i switched! i'm not able to change any of my settings, read messages, approve channel comments and most of the buttons on the page aren't working. is anybody else running into these issues??
ReplyDeleteNot sure if they're related directly to the new video pages or not, but a couple annoying technical problems cropped up around the same time:
ReplyDelete- Videos now have a habit of freezing on a frame for a few seconds while the audio plays, then the video jumps ahead to catch up.
Great job! This one is an instant classic! Thanks for your update.
ReplyDeleteDUI Attorney
I completely hate the new video page. It's very confusing to find other videos by the same user now, and i liked how on the video page, you had a small banner with the user's pic/info/subscribe button in the corner with video info with his other videos under him. All of that is gone now. It used to be so easy and organized. Now its just weird. I dont like having to hover over people's comments to get an option to do something and like other people here, I dont like the no-indent thing after the comments and the commenter's username.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you guys went back to some old-school "what it woulda looked like when we first started" theme across the board. It looked so much better before. Not sure if i'll be using this site as much if it stays this way.
It is a nice design, but far too white.
ReplyDeleteWe need some borders on the comments, videos and other things.
BRING BACK STAR RATINGS.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
I like this new page, except for the lack of star ratings. That is why I'm staying opted out.
The purpose of the new video page is to make related videos confusing (it's not even labeled anymore). The related videos of partners leads to the videos of the same partner or to other partners, so that non-partners don't get views.
ReplyDeleteSorry youtube I am here to watch user content not just your partners and adds.
ReplyDeleteMy main distinguishing feature, which I've written about in the local newspaper is that YouTube is not like the old-school television networks who think of their users as people who need to have content shoved down their throat.
What I thought was respecting your users seems to be nothing more than "we didn't know technically how to show you how much we don't give a fuck".
Alright, heres my opinions on the new changes...
ReplyDelete-Comment Section: Overall it's terrible
+There needs to be an indentation on replies.
I prefer to see what at least a portion of the community is talking about without having to click view all comments
+I'm glad you made comment ratings visible again but I don't like having to scroll over the comment to rate it. That stuff should visible from the get-go just like before.
-Video Info/ Features Bar: Overall Terrible
+The info bar should be on the right side again.
-Next In Queue: Interesting Idea but one I personally do not like or need
ReplyDelete+Being able to go to my next subscription video is nice if the subscription bar actually worked and didn't keep sending me old videos.
-Related Videos: Kinda confused on this change
+For awhile you guys seemed obsessed with adding a scroll bar to everything so why exactly did you remove the scroll bar in related videos? Not really a huge change but just kind of odd.
-OVERALL FEELINGS
A lot of these changes seem unnecessary at best and a complete failure at worst.

ReplyDeleteCorrecting and expanding my last post...
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to notice glitches in the "view all comments" page WITHOUT TRYING.
ReplyDeleteAuto play

ReplyDeleteOk. IT SUCKS.
ReplyDeleteIt is not easy to use. It is not functional. It is BUGGY as hell and I can't disable it even with the opt out!!!
LOSE IT NOW!
Youtube, don't fix something that isn't even broken. You "upgraded" the comment section of videos and rating systems when in fact you made it so alienating and confusing, and above all things, COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but the old version be better. We are much to hate this new version. We don't want to see the most popular or most liked comments, we want to see user feedback on the video, and the highly rated comments are usually not that helpful. Just keep them the way they were.
ReplyDeleteUs you one old version of Youtube. Just keep them the way they were, and everyone will be happier.
ReplyDeleteIm not going to read what other people commented but here is my gripes with hew page: First i can't press right mouse button on youtube logo and chose open in new tab, right mouse button does nothing on logo (ff 3.5 on Linux) and this is not cool. Thats it for this time
ReplyDeleteWISH I could come in and rearrange your desks in a way where you had NO say in the matter. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THAT.
ReplyDeleteThese changes are BOGUS and everybody hates them with a passion, un-practical, totally useless changes.
GAAAH! What happened to nested replies on comments?! And the thumbs up/down on comments are now invisible by default.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely with scorespent. The new YouTube sucks! Fix it please! Bring the old one back!
It's completely live to everyone now. Once again, Youtube refuses to give us a choice of which one we wanted to use. great job!
ReplyDeleteThis isn't how you run a site, guys. This is how you ruin it.
ReplyDeleteAt least I can watch videos again.
Fuck you, YouTube. No one likes the shit you throw at us. Read what we say and realize this already.
ReplyDeleteYou relentless cock tossers, couldn't you even bold the usernames in the comment sections?
ReplyDeleteGoddamn it, YouTube. Why must you insist on constantly changing the layout of your website? It was fine the way it is! Now everything is all awkward and hard to navigate. Stop trying to fix something that isnt broken you stupid shitheads!
ReplyDeleteThis update is by far the worst one yet. It's so complicated to add a video to your favorites now. The color scheme is also horrible. And what's up with the comments. Bleh, just bleh.
ReplyDeleteAt least give us the option to update or keep the old layout.
YouTube (AKA: YouTube 2K10): A site where your voice does not matter, and changes are constantly coming.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, YT, instead of listening to a handful of people, why not give us the option as to what WE want, and not what YOU want.
It's a huge mess.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked being able to edit annotations on the video page. Plus if I need to edit info in my videos, the convenience of clicking an "Edit Video" button on the video page no longer exists.
this one fucking sucks
ReplyDeletejust thought i'd say that whilst i intially hated the Beta changes that happened a few months ago, and still think it shoud have been optional, i got to like it.
ReplyDeleteThis current change i am surprised to say i like it, can't think of anything i don't like about it, maybe the highly rated comments thing, perhaps just keep them in the order they were posted.
Apart from that, it gets a "Like" from me :-)
Nice Improvement, YouTube.
ReplyDeleteBut something is not good here:
-The Rating system (Actually 5 stars are better than just "Like/Dislike").
-AutoPlay (haven't tested yet, but it should be so darn annoying).
Yet it's good spots are:
-The design (it's more elegant, kudos for that).
ReplyDeleteToo many buttons, dropdown overkill, no "Playlist" button at my dropdown userbox, no rating system anymore, just a generic "Like/Dislike" thing.
Next...
ReplyDeleteNew home page layout is obnoxious, especially since we no longer have options on our account to configure it.
ReplyDeleteForcing people into the experiment? If they opt out then obviously THEY DON'T LIKE THE NEW LAYOUT. That's common sense. So by having me here, you're not getting feedback. And some people are forced into it and glitches are ruining they're experience. SO YOU KNOW WHAT! YOU'RE WASTING YOUR OWN MONEY! THEY'LL STOP WATCHING! YOU LOSE PROFITS! YOUR GO UNDER! YOU GO POOF!
That is all...
I hate the new YouTube. It sucks. Fails. Epically fails. I am extremely annoyed that I didn't get a choice in being a beta. I am stuck with the stupid new YT and I didn't sign up for it. I should be able to opt-out. I'm not a labrat.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't you simply fix the little things people have asked about without completely dragging the site around all which-way? As many have said; This isn't how you run a site. This is how you ruin it. By pissing off your users.
Wow, how gay.
ReplyDeleteChange it back.
Sorry, but this format does not work.
ReplyDeleteDo you simply ignore the thousands of complaints that people have about your "upgrades"?
If so, then you don't care about your users. I predict that you will use a substantial amount of your users as a result of this.
"STOP FIXING WHAT ISN'T BROKEN! Or at least give us a goddamn choice!"
ReplyDeleteYeah, starting to look and act a little bit too much like Facebook around here. Kind of odd since it's not really an independent start-up anymore, should be acting more like Google. (I can't remember the last time Google made a significant layout change to the search engine pages. They work, they look good, so they're left alone. Youtube worked, and Youtube looked good. Past tense.)
I HATE YOU ASSHOLES OVER THERE, SERIOUSLY FUCK YOU
ReplyDeleteDAMN YOU, IF I SEE A DESIGNER WALKING ACROSS THE STREET I'M NOT EVEN GONNA HIT THE BRAKES.
ReplyDeleteI play drum covers and watch a lot of music covers and live shows on youtube, and the MAIN thing to find good videos or not is to see if the 5 star rating is high or not. and as for my OWN videos, I like to know that I'm a star above the rest not that my video got liked 20 times more than that other guy. the 5 star system is the best way to show quality and to also show which clip is better than the other, because if you think about repeating videos, how are you supposed to differentiate the videos, and some are also FAKE videos and I DO NOT wanna get rick roll'd anymore.
ReplyDelete"After reading your comments, we'd like to note that some of you are opted in permanently to the new page, which means you are part of our current experiment and are unable to opt out."
ReplyDeleteWhat's your experiment, to see how many of your "subjects" can get pissed off?
