I do not like that video responses are almost hidden now. Something visual other than a small text number to show there are responses is needed. Even worse, it's not visible if the video is a response to another video...

The fade in effects are annoying and unnecessary. I hope sound effects are not added as well when changing videos on the page.

Glad to see that YouTube viewers are getting their requests. And I'm also glad to see that some of Google's "favorite" partners are getting their way in the back-end of the site. But it still seems like the "Upload" aspect for the "everyman," which was the foundation that YouTube was created on, has fallen by the wayside. Capture from Webcam still de-synchronizes audio. Users with quality content are being denied partnerships because of mistakes from 2008. I know you can only take things one step at a time, but there are still a lot of things broken on the site that should be fixed before these trivial cosmetic changes are focused on. Please, YouTube, don't go the way of Facebook.

Looks terribe, everything is cluttered together. You should've kept the related videos column. The description is in a stupid spot. TERRIBLE LAYOUT YOUTUBE. JUST STOP CHANGING THE LAYOUTS! FIRST THE CHANNEL PAGES, NOW THIS. JUST LEAVE IT LIKE IT IS!

I think Youtube was better when it first came out and with the recent changes it has become hard to navigate through videos on profiles, because people's uploaded videos and favorite and subscribed videos no longer show in their own page anymore.

This is FUCKING HORRIBLE! You can't see the ratings of a fucking video before rating it yourself, video responses are hidden, and the autoplay to another unknown video that I have no fucking interests in watching is making me sick, since you can't permanently turn it off.
The front page "Recommended for You" desperately needs to show the ratings of the video instead of "because you watched this shit 4 years ago" - HALF OF THE FUCKING VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ARE SHIT, THAT'S WHY THERE IS A FUCKING RATING SYSTEM IN THE FIRST PLACE - NOW IT'S USELESS!

Oh, and comments can no longer be deleted by the channel that uploaded the video. My videos are filled with bloody "This has been flagged as spam be displayed " that I can't remove, and when I say filled, I mean the whole comment page shows that and nothing else.

Google, you're getting just as fucked up as facebook - Thumbs up/down is a useless system anyways, get back to the 5 stars.

    A YouTube user since 2006.

I like the new video page layout. It's not that bad. It's okay.

    But...

1 - The sharing URL when viewing a Subscription video is way too long. Way too long. Please think about adding youtu.be as a way to share videos, and not just for Twitter.

2 - When a user turns off Autoplay in Subscriptions, it should stay that way.

3 - Some of the thumbnails in Subscription play do not load.

4 - "Show more responses" should have a down-face chevron instead of one similar to "View all"

5 - The comments lay out it kind confusing w/out separators.

6 - When enlarging the video screen, it should stay that way until a user changes the setting.

Well it's nice to know that you've at least took some of our advice. I couldn't stand the idea of going from video to video without the chance to leave comments for example.

However, this needs a lot more work in my eyes. For god's sake do NOT get rid of the star system. I am not satisfy with just saying that I like or don't like a video. I need to be able to at least say if it was in between. What about things that are only good and not great? What about things that are bad but not awful?

Also I do not like the way the video responses are layed out. Being able to see it without having to swap between video and text comments was is better. People wouldn't even realize there is a response unless they see it right off the bat.

The comment section also is dieing for improvements. Please put the name/block user and the actual comment on a separate line. All you need is a simple "new line" command. It isn't that hard to fix.

Oh my bad but I just realized something else that needs to be addressed. The "options you can do to a comment appearing only when you hover over it", really needs some work. I can see why your doing it. But it's goes back to the if people can't see it, they don't know it's there sort of thing.

If you're that desperate to conserve space at least include some sort of tab or button on the side of every comment of a video that would give us users an indication that we can hover over a comment to thumb it up.

People don't just naturally hover over ever comment they read so you can't assume people know that it is there.

    My thoughts on this?

...No. It's cluttered, ugly, and if this is supposed to be "cleaner", I can tell you one thing: the original watch page is infinitely cleaner. It takes an unnecessary amount of time to load, the stars are a vital part of YouTube as they tell you how good a video is actually good, there are bugs everywhere (as in 95% of the crap you guys force at us), and it's really, really unattractive. Also, there wasn't anything on the old watch page that didn't require a complete redesign. If something ain't broken, DON'T FIX IT.

Not bad YouTube, you haven't totally failed on this one. I have a slight suggestion. Keep the thumbs up/thumbs down, but don't automatically add a thumbs up to our favorites. There's a HUGE difference between a favorite video and a good one.

This new layout is a hastle it really doesn't improve anything. You can't scroll through the related videos while still watching the video your on. Autoplay is annoying as fuck, the whole thing conveys too much information and is cluttered the whole thing is just ineffcient. Go back to the old layout and make everyone happier. Also I like posters image on there channel it adds something more to it. Also keep the 5 star rating system it conveys much more information and is more dynamic with the video. I know why you are doing this it for more advertising money. The lack of an indpendent scroll for related videos is so that there is more advertising space available. The autoplay is to enable you to charge more for advertising because more videos get watched weather the people want to or even if they are watching it.

O yeah and to all of you who are telling youtube to listen. You think your cries for help will ever be answered? No they won't. You wanna why? Its because they have a corner on the market and couldn't give a flying fuck what we have to say about how they could improve youtube or how not to fuck it up anymore than they already have. They don't care, if they can save money or make more money with a different layout that everyone hates they don't care how pissed they get because they know that no one will leave youtube because everyone is here and everyone is watching here and they know there is no other place on the internet that can rival their supremacy.

You may ask what can we do to make them listen? Burn them to the ground, if you have 1337 h4x0r skills fuck shit up and cause service interuptions or any other nasty shit you can think of, upload massive amounts of shit that will just take uo room on their harddrives and never get watched. Spread a smear campaign of PR against youtube and google. Just make them feel it where it hurts, the pocket book.

I personally still miss the simple functionality of the previous YouTube channel format and all the functionality thereforth. Everything was very simple to access before this new layout came along. If it were up to me, I'd prefer the functionality of the previous YouTube channel and layout and model.

I would still rather click on a video to view it immediately in a standard window instead of having it automatically be played from the channel window. I want to be able to click on any video I like and be able to link immediately to it to comment and rate and see related videos like old times... rather than the model now.

As for the Playlists, I still fancy the previous model more than the current one. At least, that's just me...

    Hi YouTube,

I like the new design, but I strongly thing that the original sidebar with the video description and the subscribe button should be back on the side. Perhaps, it should swap places with the related videos thing in the new layout. That's the only thing i hate about the new layout.

absolutely HATE the auto-play playlist thingy you got going on there. especially since it is automatically added as a feature and relies on me to make changes to something i didnt want in the first place. my guess is the guy who created this feature also created web page pop-ups. so i thought i'd give it a try and watched a john hughes vid and the next vid was some kind of death metal very loud video. WTF?

i created a haiku that makes more sense than this feature just for you guys

    Some constructive criticism:

I miss the star-rating system already. It's easy to see if a video is worth watching from that. Now, there's no way to tell from the ratings whether a video is a rick roll or whatever.

I also miss the fact that I can't minimize the related videos in the side-bar, because I can't focus on a video with the background looking too busy. I'd like to be able to minimize the related videos list.

The comments look cramped and things are much less fun without the comment rating system showing, so please bring it back!

Those are the main things I'm not liking about the new design. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the changes were necessary. Don't fix it if it ain't broken!

Hhmm - last comment disappeared. Trying again.

Version 2 of the redesigned video page still looks like a page that never loaded it's style sheet.

The current image placements and lack of colors and borders/segmenting looks unprofessional...messy...and unorganized. I really don't understand what you think these improvements bring to the table. The video was always front and center and always the "star" on the page...for Pete's sake it was the only thing moving and talking (unless you count the banner ad movement. But if you are then maybe your energies should have focused around them more).

The line above the video between the title looks crammed together with no spacing and segmenting of information. Your partners are probably going to tell you that the subscribe button - which is kind of important - is just as bland as everything else on the page. In it's current state, you cant even promote or emphasize it on the page. And why the number of videos and a drop down? Why not just put it back on the right side under the ad...and not shrink it. Leave it open by default so publishers/partners can work at getting more views and making *everyone's* videos more popular and generating more revenue (even for YouTube).

Now it looks like there is an unorganized jumble of stuff all around the video. All functions below are also grayed out (like the all important subscribe button) and nothing seems grouped properly or organized. The "like" buttons and the "save to" and "share" buttons look like they were just dropped there. BTW - if I know that "thumbing up??" a video will automatically put it into my favorites I may choose to do so less as I'm forced into favoriting the video. This is known as friction. So, if I "thumb up" less then, my thumbs up to thumbs down ratio will be offset. You may find yourself with positive "ratings" on the decline altogether! After all, there is no extra crud (friction) for me to deal with when I thumb down a video (in the political space we would call this "pork". I only wanted to give a decent video a thumbs up for approval and you make me have to buy in and do more than I wanted to and will probably make me work harder as now I have to regularly clean out my favs.)

Why are we showing such little description text, barely a sentence and a half, for a video that I want to watch? Shouldn't I at least see 3-4 sentences of the video I have implicitly clicked to sit down and watch?

Why oh why are you burying video responses? So people who have taken the time and the pains to film a response deserve less than someone who types a 10 second comment? And what about relating our own videos as video responses? You are eliminating a promotion vehicle we have counted on for cross video promotion. We know most people wont look at video response #5 and so on, so how many people do we actually think will click the tiny blue "video" link (with its total numbers grayed out to where you cant see it)? BTW - why do we still have to go to a different page to attach a video as a response? I thought a big goal here was to keep people on the watch page for engagements?

The text comments looks jumbled together as well. You can barely tell where one starts and another ends. And God forbid you mouse out of the comment area to the right to take action on a comment...you then have to scroll back down to you get the hidden layer to appear again.

I'm still (as are all partners and good deal of users are) waiting to see what you will do with "more from" and "related videos". People pour an incredible amount of work into videos and they (we) should have the ability to make sure more of our library is immediately visible and accessible to viewers.

Search within a watch page...I'm confused here. If they are searching for other videos to watch then they are MOSTLY not engaged with the video. This means that Audience Attention reporting will not be accurate. Also the results are crushed together against the left side...looks weird, especially playlist results. Why can you not click individual videos in the playlist and are not sent to a playlist page? What if the video I wanted to watch in the playlist is not the one you sent me to by default? Not sure why you grayed out the YouTube IDs of the playlist creator. Why not let users go to channel pages from a search? Sometimes you don't even show all of the YouTube ID.

I'm at a complete loss to find value in this redesign. I would suggest a regroup with the folks you rely on to generate revenue (ie: partners) and work together to come up with a design that can both provide a positive AND engaging user experience AS WELL AS increase revenues.

This layout needs a lot more work. Exposure would be nearly impossible for smaller channels. Sharing videos is important, so that people can see something they may like. Taking this away would be anti-social. I say we should move to other video sharing sites, because they don't pull moves like this.

This is one of the worst layouts I have ever seen. It is cluttered and looks very amateurish.

Youtube, this is a huge mistake.

    1) Video descriptions need to be put back on the right side.
    2) video responses and whether the video is a response needs to be put back
    3) The video owner needs to have the right to delete posts
    4) other videos by the author need to be listed in priority
    5) Ummm star ratings? Where are they? Why can't I see my own video's ratings???

actually just return it to the way it was. It worked. It was great. Why did you change it? Why? I can not believe that people really would prefer this. My view counts have gone down as people can not easily see my other videos unless they go to my channel. When I view others videos I have a hard time even seeing who the video owner is!

Why doesn't the new version work with Chrome?

You'd think with both of them being Google products, they'd play nicely together.

Where did the 5-star rating system go?

    Where are my Favorites?

I think it should be obvious why YouTube doesn't want you seeing the ratings: Advertisers and partners get pissed off because everyone rates their videos down, and that discourages other people from watching their videos.

In short: Because Frito Lay doesn't want people seeing that the new "Doritos" commercial only has a two-star rating, they're pressuring YouTube into doing away with ratings altogether...instead of rating videos now, you can just favorite them. And you have to watch them, and waste part of your bandwidth, before you know if they're worth a flip or not.

I still haven't forgiven YouTube for the godawful things they're trying to pass off as "channels," now. If this keeps up, it'll be time to try other video-sharing sites.

I find this new page harder to use. The auto play Won't stay off, you cannot see ratings during the video, the info box and the subscription should be kept on the right side, and the video response are harder to find. Please give us users the option to keep the old page.

I don't like it. My resolution is 1024x768 still the standard in many places, and now I have to scroll down!!! To be able to view the description, keywords and everything before viewing the video.

And even some embedded videos doesn't show the option to view them directly on YouTube (less memory usage)

When I search for something and click a video, the right list only shows the videos in the search, which I don't have the intention of watching (for some reason I only clicked that one) and even autoplays them. And it even doesn't show related videos or videos from that user.

I hate to enter other people Channels (giving free pageviews) to be able to see his others videos, because they don't appear in related (it show only the most popular, which in many cases are the ones I don't like to view)

I don't see all the buttons for sharing.

I don't care for the ratings, because I only watch the videos I want to see. Still I use the stars to rate videos I like.

And as some user said. The fades are useless. And only make navigation slow in my computer.

I want old YouTube. The opt out Link doesn't work.

I hope they revert it back to normal, or atleast, allowing the users to choose the old one.

For me, this new version is broken (fully updated firefox on fully updated ubuntu).

-The brief tour link does not work.
-The opt-out link does not appear on pages and the one in the blog does not work.
-The search only seems to work on the first video loaded in a session, after that it simply does nothing when you hit enter or click and I have to go back to the home page to search.
-Picking a video from the recommended videos does not always work; sometimes it loads and sometimes it loads a box that when you click it again says an error occurred.

The above are things that are actually *wrong* with the system. The following are a few suggestions:
-I liked having the video info right next to the video...if it was lyrics or something, you could easily fit it on a screen (especially since so many people have widescreen displays now) and it was more obvious and easier to use.
-new layout feels cluttered and *very* un-google like. All of these buttons and expanding/contracting fields are too much.
-I do not like the auto play...I know there are fringe benefits to autoplaying onto some videos (specifically those with advertising) but a majority of the time, I do not want to go to the next video in a random search.

I really don't like this layout.
Description should still be on the right side of the page next to the video and the new rating/favorite system is much worse than the standard 5 star and favorite button. Oh and how could I forget my least favorite part of this change, the auto-play. It's terrible and like many others who commented, I want a way to turn it off permanently. Or you could just not implement it. Don't force this change and even though you don't care, I'll say it again. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

The whole thing is wonky and I keep having playback problems with videos hanging and not playing right unless I leave the cursor sitting on the vid screen. And I hate the autoplay "option" that I must turn off every time. This is ridiculous. Why are you changing something that was not broken to begin with? Now you are screwing it up.

    the comments are too small.
the video responses are messed up
you can not see the video the video was a response to.
It is the worst thing that is going to happen to Youtube since the start. Don't force people into the new system. To qoute Angela: "This is ridiculous. Why are you changing something that was not broken to begin with? Now you are screwing it up."

What is going on at Youtube(google) R&D? No starred rating system? Seriously? Or even a visible rating before we rate the video? Of all the changes to Youtube over the years, this has to be, in my opinion, the WORST design choice of all Youtube's history. This not just diminishes the value of public opinion on your site, but completely demolishes it. Why not just do what your advertisers want you to do and completely remove the rating system and spare us this patronization? Please. They're the only ones who benefit from hiding the rating or turning it into a false dichotomy. Now we can't see if the advertisers video sucks before we rate it! Yay! Now we can't say that a video wasn't as good as the previous without saying we flat-out disliked it! Yay!

What bothers me even more is it's all being FORCED on us. Just like the beta channels! In fact, I fully expect Youtube to take the exact same course of action that was taken with the beta channels: Complete ignorance of the users. After all, when your business grows large enough, the users matter that much less. Right?

My only major gripe is that there is a major CPU leak in the code somewhere. Using Chrome's Task Manager I see that around 85% of my CPU is used by Flash when watching HD in the new layout, making the video completely unwatchable. The old layout only uses about 35% - the difference is obviously huge.

I'm reasonable smart, but I couldn't find the fucking video response "TRICK" for a frustratingly lengthy period of time. (Anyone else experiencing YT HATE, you have to click into the comment text box, before the "Attach a Video" option appears. NOT intuitive at all.

The other thing that's been pissing me off, is, I'm watching a video, great, I'm typing a comment, ok, the video ends and AUTOPLAYS the next one, MY COMMENT IS INSTANTLY GONE! FUCK YOU!
This whole scheme seems to block real communication and favor forced commercial programing, rather then community. You, the "YouTuber" are no longer even an important data point. They've hid the video owners, they've hid the descriptions... it's all geared to being more like FORCED TV, now.

Account names are shown above AND below the video (non-partners). Displaying them twice is unnecessary.

I'm happy hovering over comments to bring up the reply, rate and flag options. It looks great. However, ratings that other users have given comments are not displayed.

In my opinion the area between the header and video player should be left clear, nothing but white space. I suggest moving the video title to the info box so that it displays the username/upload date/video title by default. Clicking will expand the box and show further information.

The new page layout needs more work before finally being rolled out... but i like the direction this is going.

p.s. I prefer the like/dislike options over star ratings, and the option to search while viewing a video is useful. Good job.

My channel is a non-profit and I really do NOT like the changes. So since I'm technically a youtube partner, you better pay attention.

Sorry for all the deleted comments...Being a volunteer for the nonprofit I tried to control the language :)

In my videos the banner YouTube gave us is hardly shown in the very corner, barely noticeable. Youtube, I thought you were trying to help out the non-profits on your site??

Before youtube featured our videos above the related videos, so people would see our videos first. Now, it's just related videos, we're not getting featured AT ALL. What a waste! Why do you even have a non-profit application on your website, if you're just going to treat them like everybody else?

Plus everything is cluttered together like somebody else stated, and it makes my youtube experience a traumatic one. I used to own a website and I know I was always making changes and trying to improve it. Now that I don't own the site anymore, I realized I didn't have to make any changes at all because it was fine exactly the way it was. YouTube look at your site...can't you ever be satisfied? People love youtube the way it is and they will always use it, but every time you make changes it drives more and more people away. I heard a rumor this was your goal anyway....so congratulations, it's working.

PS The rating system sucks. I liked the old one better. Before I sounded cool and was like yeahh my video got a 5 star rating from the youtubers :D Now I have to say yeah 18 people like my videos... uh who cares? Now I'm going to pay less attention to the rating system because to me it doesn't really matter anymore. It was impressive when I could say my videos got 5 star ratings...it sounds sad when I say only 18 people like my video. AND I don't want people to see that other people "dislike"(which is a nice way to say HATE) my videos. That's awful and I don't want that to be broadcasted to everyone in the world especially since my channel is a freaking NON-PROFIT. Eventually, I'll probably end up disabling my ratings, thanks to you, youtube. Wouldn't it be sad if a non-profit left youtube because they weren't getting the publicity youtube promised them? Yeah, I think it would. That's why I got another account on Vimeo :)

    Problems:

    1) Autoplay should be disabled by default. It's annoying when you're typing a comment, or about to, when a video ends, but it auto goes to the next. Even if you set it off, it keeps reverting back to on.

    2) Video response thumbnail pictures should be viewable without clicking the "video" link. Almost no one will view video responses with this new system.

    3) Every video says "An error has occured" for a short moment before it loads correctly.

    4) When I watch a video, it doesn't remove it from my subscriptions afterwards.

    5) Ratings are not showed unti

First Google hides the ratings before watching it and now hiding the thumbs up/thumbs down counts while watching it? I know Google/Advertisers/Youtube Partners are doing/want this to get us to watch a video that could either be good or crap!

I would've liked, for, y'know, a warning video of some sort on the front page.

The star system is a much better way to rate, hell, movies, restaurants, hotels, salons, etc...all use it. The only time a thumbs up/down is used is for novelty.

I'm very disappointed with this layout overall.

But please make comment ratings (thumbs up/down) visible again without having to choose "view all comments".

Also, the autoplay function should be off by default. I usually read comments etc after I want a video and don't want to immidiently go to next video. Right now I have to turn it off everytime I watch a video in my subscriptions.

    - takes forever to comment since it is necessary to switch between pause and play to view what you've already typed.
    - no link to my viewing history
    - cannot read the description and watch the video at the same time.
    - do not see related videos, e.g. part 1 of a series, when viewing part 2 of a series. (linked to part 2 from subscriptions page where only parts 2 and 3 were displayed.)

I guess the $1.65 BILLION offered by Google was just too tempting for Youtube and so that's that. Jackasses.

You do it again. This new layout is TERRIBLE. Much worse than the channel change. There seems to be a pattern going on, whenever there's a simple system that WORKS you have to add in all of these UNNECESSARY GARBAGE CHANGES.

Do us all a favor you Google nerds- get off the computer, stop thinking of "cool and awesome new designs" that the USERS DON'T WANT, GET A FUCKING LIFE, AND LEAVE US ALONE.

I'm not usually this much of an asshole when giving feedback, but you people deserve it.

I would like the autoplay option to be something you can permanently turn off or on, not something I have to continuously turn off.

I dislike the fact that you can't see the ratings on a video without commenting.

You are no longer able to see videos that are part of series.

I also dislike the fact that the description box has shrunk and it is harder to read in its current location.

If I could choose, I'd throw the new design to the garbage and keep the current one. I HATE HATE HATE that most of my videos will be hidden and only few will be up for show. Oh yes, sure there are all 135 of them if one clicks to see all of them, but then the whole freaking page goes nuts cos it loads all the videos - literally bringing the page to a hault. And this is only one thing I am aggravated about, because this is such discrimination towards You Tube users who work hard on the videos they put out, with original music and so forth. The videos being tucked away will inevitably effect views of the videos. This whole change is pure shite. And I 100% confident due past experience that my inbox will go nuts when the change occurs. You keep changing stuff and causing problems with you new ideas that actually aren't better than the previous one. ARGH!

And a question: what the hell is this "thumbs up, thumbs down" option? Are the star ratings going away with the rest of the options we users had? Devoloping ideas is good when you actually improve something. This is not the case - yet again. You keep doing this time after time but all I hear is everyone complaining about the layout and so forth. I guess you have a very selected group of authorities that you tested this idea and developed it with cos you sure hell aren't listening to most of the users who are against all these changes. But I guess you want to make YT the next bloody webshop, fill it up with advertising, give all the attention to those videos that actually pay you some money and well, when we talk about money, the normal average user is just your bitch. I've had my say on this, it's a miracle you even gave us little people a venue to express our frustration.

I am sure YouTube has already heard of this, likely a thousand times over, but I shall repeat nonetheless. The homeproject video you've provided as a link does not actually revert our pages back to the old youtube. At one point, an old youtube link suddenly appeared, but when i clicked on it, nothing happened. I am still stuck with the new Youtube. I do not like its overall too simplistic designs. I know google loves its simplicity, but this is overkill. Youtube is not Google. Same company, different sites.

I especially hate that all the information posted by a video maker is now underneath the video, as well as the lack of a definition between comments and the hard to find ratings. Rating power might be abused but it's also how people can tell videos from fakes. People break the community guidelines by putting up false videos, yet no one reports them, and ratings is how it can be differentiated. I really think you should had left it the way it was, though I really doubt you will.

Ok wow, this update it terrible I think. I don't see anything good about it.

    1) I turn off autoplay and it turns itself back on and no rating system is a dumb idea

    2) comments are too difficult to read because they are all clumped together

    3) Hard to navigate overall- save to option, share, etc

    4) I have to reload the page several times before the actual video starts playing- it tells me to upgrade and I did. I have the newest version of what they're telling me to upgrade

    5) videos don't load on iPod touch/ iPhone

    6) why was the About Me section taken away from the homepage?

This update just makes me not want to use YouTube...there was nothing wrong with the previous layout, I don't see why we can't just keep that.

    5) can't see users' icon and description is too difficult to read

Overall, the new design is garbage.

Why are there no longer any video responses?

Why can we no longer unflag a comment that has been wrongly marked as spam?

Why can we no longer see the rating of a video on it's playback page?

Why do some videos cover part of the controls (such as being able to turn off "autoplay")?

Why do some videos automatically show as a full-screen video that covers everything and cannot be shrunk?

Why can't I just turn off the autoplay feature globally?

    And...

Why are you ignoring what so many users are saying about this?

Things that I don't like about new layout:

    1) We can rate from 1 to 5 on channel but we can only choose from LIKE and DISLIKE on video page.

    2) You can thumb up your own comments.

    3) You can rate your own videos.

    4) Cannot open Home Page in new tab anymore.

    5) Description box should be where it was before.

    6) Can't see good comments untill you highlight them.

    7) Usernames in comments are too small.

    And much more...

I dislike the following changes made to YT:

1] thumbs up/down history for video comment gone
2] from 'view all comments' page...it is now impossible to tell which comments are responses to other comments. we are now unable to follow the conversation of the commenters
3] comments now lack borders or spacing between them so it's not easy to tell where one ends and the next one begins
4] the 5-star rating system is gone? please that must be a joke....bring that back
5] the 15-second ad only bothers me when it begins 5 seconds after my video has started to play...so it has to switch back and forth

It wasn't broken, but now it is...please fix it.

Just noticed the new comments layout - THREE big problems.
    1) Replies aren't indented on "view all comments". Why not? Indentation helps visually.
    2) Clicking "reply" opens up a text box with no line end! I keep typing, and the text disappears where I can't see it. Okay I've only tried it in Firefox, but even if it is a browser issue, 632 zillion people use Firefox, and they're not just going to change because you couldn't be bothered to code something properly.
    3) The first line of any reply is impossible to read because the options keep flashing up when you mouseover. Why not open the reply text box underneath the comment instead of to the side?

Oh and a 4th problem as well. It took me well over 10 searches and dozens of clicks to find this update on this page; the Contact section has neither an option to complain to Youtube, nor a link to this blog or any mention of updates. Didn't you think it might be helpful to tell your users about upcoming changes, or even just have a big button on the Youtube home saying "changes are happening, click here for more"? No, of course you didn't. Christ.

P.S. Last check, the "vote up/down" button has no effect on the actual rating when looking at comments on the video page.
P.P.S. I love the way this is a blog on GOOGLE, so Youtube users can't post as, you know, YOUTUBE users. Genius. Shows you're really in touch with your users.
P.P.P.S. Judging by the number of different comments on different issues that have flooded in over the last month, and that some things still need fixing, you pretty much ballsed-up the management of this update, didn't you?

I have the same issue as Jez Kemp - the comment box that pops up when you click on 'reply' to a comment is messed up in Gecko-based browsers (Firefox and Seamonkey). There is no right margin to the box and no word wrapping, so when you get to the end of the line you are essentially typing blind, as the text goes beyond the end of the box and keeps going even though you can't see it.

Such a basic fundamental error should have been picked up at the coding pre-beta stage

Let me tell you about the "great" thing i have experienced with this new design.
    - I can no longer watch videos in 480 quality without lagg.
    - I now have to have my cursor INSIDE the video player window to make the video play properly, otherwise everything on the page will lagg, and the video won't play.
    - My comment sections looks like something a guy with 56K shit-connection would want = it looks like crap. You took out all the nice stuff from it.
    - When i press my name, i no longer get to my channel, but a little box comes up with where i wan't to go.

Losing the 5 star rating of how you express whether you rate the video or not is probably the saddest part of this redesign. If YouTube wants to be about a community of users then this kind of expression is important. It used to be a clear indicator of the quality of the content uploaded. Whilst I think it was good to clean up some of the design elements the page layout now feels more corporate and not about the users, by just expressing like or not is pretty lame.

Alos, in the stats and data it was very important to me as a content partner to see where the video was being viewed from and what links as this alowed me to follow other discussions about the film uploaded. By taking this away you have severed these links which means I have to rely on google searches to see who is talking about the film and where, if it is not happening within the comments. So many of the features that were "community" focussed have been taken away, not just hidden or made less visible but are just gone. The experience of commenting and rating has now been changed in a more regulated and less expressive way which seems to contradict what YouTube was all about. I dont see any rationale for this and would love to hear an explanation of it. It cant effect the revenue streams for YouTube/Google so what's with this unparticipatory unexpressive 'redesign'.? Please explain this as it could be the thing that moves people onto Vimeo, me included.

The new layout doesn't affect us much, since we don't post videos. The main reason we go to YouTube every day is to police it for pirated content. If there's a problem that needs fixing it's not the interface. It's the rampant copyright abuse. Find a way to stop people from posted our copyrighted material and THAT will be an improvement.

Completely agree with Julie Angel's comments.

As a youtube partner and video blogger since 2006, I have seen youtube stumble through many problems, fixes and changes. However, none have pissed me off as much as the current redesign of the comments area. What the hell were they thinking? They have made it less usable (except for the comment box being moved to the top) and MUCH less readable. The community aspect for me was the most valuable thing about youtube and being part of the vlogging community and they have just effectively reduced that value.

Before, I could at a glance, skim the page to see the latest comments on my video and when they were made. Now I have to hover over each individual comment to see it’s time stamp. Plus the horrid inline display of user name & comment text and lack of comment separators makes the whole area generally very ugly and messy looking. Not only that, the timestamp is in a different location depending on length of comment because it appears inline to the text!

Any blogging/social community site or forum containing comments will always have the username and timestamp in the same spot on each post so that users can at a glance skim over the page and note which user and when the comment was made. Isn’t that, like, User Interface Design 101 or something?

Not a huge fan of the complete flat white layout either. More distinction between areas is needed. Basically, I think they need to hire better designers.

I for one really like the new layout. In hindsight, the old one was extremely cluttered and focused more on the layout and extra content than on the video itself. The point of YouTube is, after all, to show videos.

My only real complaint is the now seemingly absent rating system for comments. That was a feature that I really liked about YouTube and to me funtioned as a Like/Dislike system. If there is still a way to do this, I would absolutely love to figure it out. If not, that is one thing I would definitely like to see return. I also liked how links to other videos used to be in scrollboxes, but the new video side panel looks all right.

I'm usually not one for minimalism, but this new layout to me is like a breath of fresh air. It kinda reminds me of YouTube's baby phases way back when.

youtube!! this is crap! please please please change it back. there was no need to change it, and now everyone hates it. till you guys make it the way it was, im not using youtube anymore. its no longer user friendly and hard to look at. the rating system was just fine, and the description box and subscribe button was classic. now its crap. unless you want to lose users, i suggest you change it back, or atleast give us the option to do so.

Beginning late today, my up-loader is screwed up! Is that because of the new design? I have viewers making afghans and I cannot finish the tutorial series. Where is the upload button? I click upload, then choose a file, click the open button, then nothing happens.

This new layout sucks, and I won't just randomly complain, no, these are reasons why, real reasons.

first off, its not convinient, why do I have to click on the logo, to go the homepage, its stupid, whats the point of deleting those nice little links that made youtube so much easier?

and autoplaing, if I wanna autoplay, I'll use a playlist, simple as that, I know I can turn it off, but its alot better, when I don't have to do anything at all, I rarely ever use playlists to begin with, sometimes I stay on the same video, since it may be one I like, or a song I'm listening to, but all of sudden it changes to lady gaga bad romnce or some shit, I don't want that!

and the 5 star ratings, it works better, if I'm rating a video, and it only ask wether I loved or didn't love it, it sucks, I just wanna choose, "worth watching" or ehh, its ok, so GIVE US BACK MORE OPTIONS

and this real nice, I can't subscribe while watching the video? What happened to simple convinence? Isn't that what you were going for with the shitty beta channels? now you make things more complicated, yea, nice

and the favorites button, it was nice, when it was just sitting there, now its with the add to playlist? thats not convinient, give it back!

and the desciption, the more info button was more self-explanitory, any 5 year old kid that read would know what to do

and then there's this new way of responding to videos, its just stupid, the regular comments, and video responses should be seperate, its confusing.

and why can't the related vvideos be in that nice SMALL scroll box?

even if you won't change it back all the way, its still sucks, at least work on it a little more, because its anything but perfect, until then, just give this crappy layout to volentiers, I mean, shouldn't the customer be right? No one is happy, NO ONE, and you'll lose more viewers while this going on, since its frustrating, and just plain a bad idea.

also, it doesn't even look that good, its just an ugly mess of white and gray.

so if you would, please, change it back, or at least work on it a little more, alright? Be smart for once

FOr once, I gotta say, I like the beta's (I still call em that, yea)

The subrcibe buttons are in plain sight, the favorite button is right there, along with flag and playlist, and share, the other videos, are kept in a nice little scrollbox, keeping it compact, while maximizing space of the page, the more info button, like I said before, is self explanitory.

the only thing it lacks,(the video player, the page still sucks) is that the description is on the bottem of the video, and you can't have comments and the desc out at the same time

The new layouts suck, AT LEAST, use the beta channel player as an example,

but of course, even better CHANGE THE DAMN LAYOUT BACK

also, looking at the other comments, even ones that say they like the new layout, they always say something else is wrong, and if there's that many mixed opinons, even if they do say they kinda like the new layouts, it still pretty much says, this new layout is imperfect, so AT LEAST, work on it more, I'll repat myself as much as I need to

I seriously hope that this was just a 1st April joke . This new interface is really messy and confusing. No separation between comments and no highlights on comments made by video uploader. Even the continuity of comments is lost.

Everything seems jumbled up like video responses has been put somewhere between the comments. Despite countless video sites on the internet Youtube stood out because of its neat and user friendly interface. It invited the viewer to become part of the community by posting his/her own comments. But you have taken it all away . You cannot do that to us. As a loyal youtube user I am feeling so aggrieved . Please bring back the old interface.

Also what's up with the ratings, now all you have is that stupid 'like it' button...come on.
And what happened to the home link and all the other links, what you guys couldn't just update the graphics, streamline it a little, and leave everything else the same? Just like Microsoft, always got to **** up a good thing when it's fine to start with.

Forcing a user to scroll down below the video to read the description of the video, not to mention clicking a blue box..

obviously this is designed to have people load the video before the video before know what the video is, so more videos are "watched" creating more advertising revenue.

Its a very sneaky design but all these features seem to be designed aronud the user loading the video before being able to easily find out what th video is about.

I think googles don't be evil motto is just a distant memory, to any marketing or viral marketing expert... this is just way over the top.

Theres only so much you can push a consumer before loosing them. They don't all have the patience your trying to force on them just to get that video view.

Please Please Please, for god sake turn it back to the old way, its looking horible and so confusing, yes, ppl would not like change, but this change is horrible .. In play list i was not able to shuffle my videos, go to the next video directly, the previous rating was so much better, and the current rating is really stupid. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee get back to the old way, or atleast allow us to use the old layout if we prefer that.
