But what is you want to just rate a video and not add it to Favorites? I might like a video enough to give it 5 stars, but might not want to add it to my Favorites.

I like the new layout of the buttons for sharing, adding to playlist, and getting a link. I also like the more videos by user link at the top of the video player.

I'm getting a 500 Internal Error Message when I click on the YouTube [Home] logo.

I like it as well. It will take a bit of time to get the hang of the whole format. I really like where you pick the video size. Though one thing I would love to see is to have the video players similar to viemo.

i agree with jasonvaritekfan, if i like a video but don't want to add the video to my favorites, i can't really rate it. i guess all users will have thousands of favorites now...

I love it. But you need a Like button in ADDITION to the favorite button - People can like without favoriting and people are weird about what they favorite. I surmise that because of this, you'll get a lot of SLAMMED thumbs down videos.

I love the new design of the player itself, with the arrow list to choose the quality.

However, I don't like the new design of the whole page, and for those who are partners and have banners on the video page, they will have to be redesigned.

I just feel like it's been stripped down a little too much. Maybe it would just take some getting used to.

Maybe you need to separate "Like List" as well. I like saving my favorite videos to my favorites, rather than every video I like.

either way, they need to be separated.

Also, I liked having videos by the person in the sidebar so I could check them out easier. Or am I just missing it?

I like the new player and page layout I found an issue and have a suggestion.

The issue I found is the player height is a little to high. Take a look at this screen shot: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1771/newytplayerheight.jpg

My suggestion is to make a thumbs up button because there are videos that I like but I don't want them in my favorites.

"Like" and "Favorite" are not the same. Good change otherwise. I suspect Youtube will hear enough about this and will separate Like vs adding-to-favorites.

Love the clean look, but agree with the above comments that like and favorite should be separated. Also, search results would benefit from a scroll bar so you can continue to watch current video while looking for items to add to cue.

I think features should be made customizable, so that things can be moved around via drag & drop and resized - much like iGoogle or Google Wave. Or at least several different themes could be created, so that users can choose which one they like the most.
YouTube could be made much more like Google Wave in general, with replying to comments with indented ones (old style), or even embedding other YouTube videos in comments, etc.

I like this new look a lot. Two noticeable improvements for me that I really like:
    1. The rating system - I never rated a video between 1 and 5... I think this new system is a lot more useful and more efficient.
    2. The "see more videos" - I like this a lot... seems a lot easier to use and the videos aren't getting in your way when you don't want to see more.
Everything just seems cleaner and more organized, well done.

If your end goal was to kill YouTube completely then you got it ! This is the worst redesign ever ! And i know about designs a lot...
The new rating system somehow merged the "add to favorites" option with "i like it" rating option, this is not the same, i don't want the video in my favorite every time i give it a Thumbs Up, Many people don't want this, in the end this will discourage people from voting in general...
Also, the comments... the only good thing about that is that now the "add a comment" box is located at the top of comments section instead of being located at the bottom, which is convenient, same goes for the reply option that now displays to whom the reply was addressed to... Everything else in that part is garbage...
Also it's good is that now you can choose between the resolutions when you watch the video...
Everything else, aside from what I said above and let me be clear on this, EVERYTHING, Is a total failure, as in EPIC FAIL...
You are forgetting that its not just the video that is important, it's the community as well ! Remove the current rating system, the visible thumbs up/down in comment section and other things and you will loose everyone except those companies that give you $$$...

@Everyone who's saying youtube will lose users-

Youtube is such a big part of the global community nowadays that the percentage of people that would leave from this compared to the total amount of people is less than .1%. Youtube is a global fad and it isn't going away just because some people don't like a redesign. Think again.

The video you have linked to displays a really obvious problem in the design - The response video bar. This particular video doesn't allow video responses, but rather than inform the user of this, it simply appears as a blank area, causing negative space.

What happened to "Videos by [user]"? If that's it under the "23 videos" button, it's certainly not clear.

If the ratings system has apparently been dropped, why then is there a thumbs down button, but no thumbs up?

Where on earth is the "All Comments" feature? And WHY have threaded comments been replaced with faux-Twitter @reply nonsense? This is YouTube, not a mobile social messenging network.

Also did I mention that the general Design of the page now looks like shit... And i mean it, you should dump the current design team and get a new one, seriously...
The current page design is quite good, it has its weak points but its still by far much better than the one you are currently suggesting in that beta version...
Dump this new design, leave the resolution option for the player and dump everything else you did so far...
PS. Jake, Ye, the 1% of good users will leave and you will be left with the noobs who don't care about anything... Thats the way to go !

AND THAT'S NOT FAIR, because it's going to get more hates than likes because hate is just the hate button not like the like and favorite.

@Everybody. Don't waste your time complaining about the new ratings system. YouTube doesn't care what you, I or anyone thinks and haven't in a very long time. The arrogance and condescension that permeates among the decision makers has been evident since the old bulletin system was removed, through the beta debacle and now with this. Read the blog. This is a done deal. Nowhere does it suggest that user feedback will result in any changes. Face it, they know what's best for us because their opinion is, ultimately, the only one that really matters.

Ancient- actually it would be the noobs who are insecure about everything who would leave over a simple graphics change. you think that you're speaking for everyone, but you're not. if you honestly care that much about a redesign (which i, and many others, think is great) and you leave, you're obviously an internet whore who would quit the most popular site in the world (besides google) just because the video page looks different. 99% of youtube users are not noobs, and the "1 percent that aren't noobs" aren't going to leave. have fun on metacafe, biatch.

Some things I'm noticing at first glance:

    1. Why does the video have to get so small when you do a search? The space the list of videos normally takes up is just fine.

    2. The video editing controls should probably be below the video with the action bar. After all, video editing is an action, right?

    3. I'm not sure why a big section of the page turns light gray when you resize the video. Looks kind of odd if you ask me.

    4. The buttons in the actions bar should all be clumped together. They look kind of strange spread out.

The interface will take some getting used to, but I'm seeing some nice new features.

I'm also in favor of splitting up the "liking" and "favoriting" of a video.

Back with the old system: when I thought a video was good I would give it 4-5 stars and when I could see myself wanting to watch again at a later time I would favorite it. There's lots of videos I like but have no interest in re-watching.

As I wouldn't want to clutter up my favorites, it just unfortunately means I would positively rate videos less often than I used to while using this design.

Here's my opinion for the Watchpage Youtube

    1. I do not think liking a video
should also be as a favorite, this may flood the
your favorites list and you might go through trouble deleting unwanted favorites

    2. Is it possible to make the top of the
web pages of youtube to have a particular design?
It feels quite dull seeing gray and white.
Maybe buttons like the "upload" button?

    3. On visiting your video, I do not
think having two "Edit Video" sequences.

    4. "Save to" and Sharing the video shouldn't interfere the viewing of the comments. Minor, but I don't like it.

    5. Is it possible that we can
have our profile icons seen on the watch page?

Thanks and I hope my opinion does make a difference.

By the way, I liked how you can comment above the videos, much more useful than scrolling downward.

Who wants to favorite every video they like? Please, help me understand this logic. I admit that English isn't my first language so maybe I'm losing something in translation.

The ony thing this change will cause is less input from the community and videos that are not funny or interesting enough to be favorited will only recieve negative thumbs. That's just ridiculous. That'll just discourage the little guy from posting videos if all you get are bad ratings.

And the new comment section sucks! I thought that when you guys would make changes to the comment section you would make it easier for the community to carry a conversation, but now with that useless twitter response system and no option to "view all comments" any comment beyond the latest 30 or 40 comments will be lost forever because even though I enjoy the input from the community, I'm not going to keep clicking "show more comments" 50 times just to see if there is an interesting conversation going on.

I do like some of the new fetures, like letting me choose the video quality, and the way I can search while still watching a vid, and the search results or subscriptions following me to the video so I don't have to skip around from tab to tab.

Having said that, I hate the changes I hate, much much more than I like the changes I like.

I have noticed that at least on one computer, HD videos lag horribly with the new page. Switching back to the old page fixes the problem, so it's not because of the updated player.

This is a good layout, though there are things that should be added, like the old design's star ratings (you know, the ones where you can rate from 1 star to 5 stars).

I agree with like/dislike thing - but "like" should be distinguished from favorite - that encourages people to use "like" more often. Overall though, I do like the clean new look and emphasis on discovery of related videos.

The Like/Dislike function might be a little weird, but most videos are rated by 1 or 5 stars anyways, so I don't care. As for the "Like" being also a "favorite" option, that might be a little weird too, because I may like something but don't want my favorite cluttered with videos I don't want in there.

    There is a recommendation regarding:"
Dieses Video enthält Content von WMG und UMG. Es ist in deinem Land nicht mehr verfügbar. "

PLEASE, show the video without audio when the audio is not available!

The thing is ... It is only music then anyways and there is no talk or something. So, show the video without audio!

I haven't seen all the changes yet, but as for what I've noticed:

+ I like that suggestions are given me now with the reason the system selected them.
+ I like the new player layout where I can select the quality instead of toggling between HQ/HD yes or no.

    - I dislike what I read here about favoriting all liked videos.
    - I dislike the replacement of the star-rating-system by a binary one. Of course, 1 and 5 are the most used ratings, but does it really matter? Why piss off the ones who like to make differentiated ratings?

BTW: Am I the only one who has the following problem? If I click on a related video, it often takes a long while to load, if I delete the "&feature=related" part of the URL and hit return, the page usually directly comes up. That's annoying...

BTW2: My arrow keys don't work in this commenting field here, and the copy&paste function is disabled, why is this, is it only me?

I think we all have seen with the recent forced change to the new YouTube channels design that YT isn't at all sensitive to user preferences or needs. Those channels still look like they were designed by a 13 year-old FaceBook/Twitter addict, and we can glumly conclude that that is YT's target audience.

The new videos pages lack the statistics&data entries, which had been gutted already anyway. The original design included bot-generated lists of where your videos had been embedded and how often they were viewed on remote sites - genuinely useful info. Now there's nothing. Video repro quality has taken a SHARP downturn from the old HQ designation, which for the last six months or so had made videos genuinely watchable and provided an automatic upgrade for older videos.

I wish that just once a company like YT would tell the truth - the changes have been made to save bandwidth and hence money.

Any new layout takes some getting used to. Hell, I'm still getting used to the new channel desgins. But there are a lot of weird problems with this new layout.

1- Why is the header different on the video page than on the home page? It's really distracting and having all the navigation options that the header has makes moving through the site easy.

2- I like the idea of the username-other videos-sub thing over the video, but you have the user name again in the description box. This is unnecessary.

3- The placement of the description box practically guarantees that no one is going to read what's in it. Having it on the side assured that people knew that it was there, at the very least.

4- It is now impossible to read the description and watch the video at the same time. This is a problem if the video is talking about a lot of links that you want to open in new tabs or bookmark to read for later.

5- Why the weird space between the comments and the videos?

6- Liking/thumbs downing seems like a good idea, but the liking needs to be separate from favouriting. I may like a video, but if I'm not thrilled with it I'm not going to add it to my favourites to watch again later.

7- The video suggestions being so far up the page is very distracting. I would suggest keeping the description box up there.

8- What happens to partner pages with this new layout? I'm not a partner myself, but I like seeing the banners and stuff. Where would those benefits fit in?

The only thing I don't like about this change is the quality drop-down. It is too close to the volume slider and will usually pop up when hovered over while trying to access the volume slider. If you could put a lock on the quality drop-down, that would be most appreciated.

The like/dislike rating is fine, having things I "like" automatically added to favorite is NOT. I may "like" a lot of videos but I ONLY favorite things that I want to be able to find again easily. Doing it the way this new design does is going to make an unholy mess of the favorites and render them utterly useless. Even a search function for favorites won't help.

The description needs to move back to the sidebar. Freakish Lemon is absolutely right, the new design makes it impossible to read the description while watching. Also the new location for the description makes it more obscure than it ever was when behind a (more info) link.

I tried out the demo of the new channel and found it to be slow loading, sluggish video that defaulted to a 480 width when I prefer 360 for all videos with rare exception.

I hope I'm not wasting my time suggesting both that this change be majorly revised and that when it is complete, MAKE IT AN OPTION, NOT A REQUIREMENT!!!

I liked everything, but the Like and Add to Favorites should be two different buttons... And other thing, it makes no sense thumbing up or down, there isn't any count, niether in the comments nor the video itself...

When I search being in a video, it puts the results and then it changes to a giant page filled with codes.

And sometimes the little tooltips that appear over each buttons wont go away and the sharing option's arrow wont work.. As well as the Add to whenever I click it, it will say loading... and a message will say "Errors in page"

This using Windows Vista Internet Explorer 8

I read all of this and all of the comments earlier, but I just now have spent some time trying it out to have a more informed opinion. I now understand about the video responses, and as much as I can appreciate the waste of space created when there aren't any, I really like the prominence they now have. I have to agree on the lack of color. It makes it harder to find things. You've moved the subscribe button, but I think it still needs to be yellow. Please keep it yellow...please? And as for the stars thing....I don't like using the new video page because I'm not able to leave a rating of the video without adding it to my favorites. And yes, we like to see how many of something a video or a comment got. It really seems pointless to thumb up or thumb down a comment if that doesn't get displayed....

So 3 star rating would be perfect for me.

Agree: No need to manouver the clips into fav´s when liking it. Blows up my lists unessecary and forces me to organize additional content I actually don´t wanna have.

i think that the related videos bar should be a scrolling bar and not drag down the page. the creator of the video should be back where it was, above the related videos. they should bring back the star ratings, and make the subscibe button yellow agian (cause there are alot of videos that tell viewers to click the YELLOW button. they should make it so you can see all of the comments agian and put the video that it is a responce to back to the biggest one...

however i like that you can view the stuff you searched for on the videos page, and i like that they moved the discription under the video...

Okay first of all, a "WHITE" subscription button is a BAD idea and having it over the video instead above the side bar. The "YELLOW" was way more noticeable. And not only that, but once you click it you are able to edit ur subscription... I hate to say it, but more people are likely to unsub from a lot of people.

2nd of all, the "thumps up" feature that also automatically "favorites" the video is a HORRIBLE idea. No one is ever going to thumps up a video again. People are going to be accidentally adding videos to their favorites that they DON'T want!

and 3rd of all... Youtube, I don't really care you want to change up your layouts, that's fine. But seriously, if you're going to do this- GIVE THE PEOPLE A CHOICE! LISTEN TO THE VIEWERS AND USERS!
When you don't give us a choice, we get pissed and a lot leave and stop using. Plus, didn't you just change it last year?! Slow down and give us time to get used to the "old" ugly shit, before you throw some new "shit" at us!

Some videos have a yellow button in them telling them to subscribe as a joke or subliminal message(which is hilarious btw)... why should they look like idiots when new people come to YouTube. Besides the yellow is more attractive and it calls you. The edit subscription though is a nice touch. ;) overall I like it. The Like/Dislike button idea is awful. I would rate videos I liked before, but now if positively rating a video is going to add it to my FAVORITES list, then I won't be clicking just because I don't need/want thousands of videos in my Favorites List. That's retarded. If you want to change it to a Like/Dislike system instead of a 1-5 star system, that's fine. But don't combine Liking with Favoriting. Because they are two very different things.

Also, I think the page is TOO SIMPLISTIC. It doesn't pop, it's bland and is very boring to look at. Jesus Christ, add some color somewhere, anywhere. Here's an idea: LET THE ACCOUNT HOLDERS STYLE THE WATCHPAGE, BUT INDEPENDENTLY OF OUR CHANNEL PAGE.

And you have this weird empty space to the right of the comments below the Video Response button. It's wasteful, bad design and will only be populated if a video has several video responses (which very few do).

I made sure to watch 'Dear YouTube: About The New Video Page' from user OnisionArchive after trying the layout, so my opinion wouldn't be biased. but I basically agree with everything he says.

remember, youtube has to be about community as well as video. it's really losing that aspect.

Hey YouTube, in my opinion, most of these changes are a bad idea, the subscribe button is white, les noticable, people will lose subcribers, the related videos to the side, of course if it's just a random person talking about something you're interested in, it's fine, but if you want to see a specific person, Shane Dawson, Onision, Smosh etc. etc., then you'll have to go back to their channel, and find new videos, which takes longer, and people will think f*ck it, and people will get less veiws, worst of all, I think is the thumbs up and thumbs down thing, clicking thumbs down will just mean I didn't like it, which is fine, but if you like it, you automaticly have to favorite it too, before you could say good video, but not perfect, so 5 stars but not favorited, now if you like it, you HAVE to favorite it too, then it will come up on your channel for everyone to see, not everybody wants that, I don't, so no matter how much I liked a video, if it wasn't my favorite, they would never know I liked it, people will get more thumbs down than ups, simply because people who doesn't like the video will say thumbs down, people who like the video will most likely do nothing, because then they are forced to favorite it too, ofc some people will love it and favorite, but my guess is that's not so many, the rest of the changes are acceptable, but the thumbs up and thumbs down idea is just a bad idea, change the 5 stars to thumbs up and down, that could work, but connecting the thumbs up with favorite, no, really, reconsider that, also with the subscribe button.. if you don't want it yellow, make it blue, make it green, make it some colour, anything, just not white, I barely noticed it, the most famous people on youtube will lose subscribers and views from this change, it's really not a good idea.

you asked for our opinions, and this is my opinion.

I love the new layout! Almost everything I hated about the old GUI has been removed (like the annoying "extra" vertical scroll bar for video lists on the right-hand menu) or changed for the better (e.g. the incredibly slow load times when a user clicked on "More Comments" has been much improved).

There are only 3 things I would change. First, like Jasonvaritekfan said, the rating system should be separate from the Favorite's setting. I might like a video, but I might not want to add it to my Favorite's list, which I tend to reserve for only a select few videos. One solution might be to give the user a context based option to add a video to his or her Favorites when that user positively rates a video. E.g. when a user clicks on the Like button, that person would then be presented with a submenu that reads: "Add to Favorites?"

Second, I think there should be an option to minimize the Comments pane after it has been expanded; but, given the quick responsiveness of it, this isn't much an issue.

Third, I would add the ability to toggle Comments to display either in chronological order or from the most to least recent posts.

The redesign looks great and will be pretty easy to get used to. My only gripe is that I would like to be able to 'thumbs up' a video without adding it to my favorites. Most of the videos i would give '5 stars' to I wouldn't add to my favorites. All in all, though great job.

The subscribe button needs to be yellow, there needs to be a "Thumbs Up" button added because it would be annoying to favorite every video. There needs to be a visible counter which shows how many people did "Thumbs Up" or "Thumbs Down". Keeping the 1-5 star rating system would probably be best.

When displaying where the video is most popular the bottom part is cut off. please fix this bug.

There is a bug with playing videos in google chrome, it says I do not have the latest flashplayer but I do (the page still plays in other browsers though).

Show the icon of the person who made the video.

    Make things more colorful.

Make it so you CAN'T unsubscribe from the from the page.

    Bring back the quicklist.

Make it possible to DISPLAY ALL COMMENTS ON A VIDEO, and also Show More Comments as it already does
Also make it say how many comments there actually are on the video!
    Example:
    Comments (4444) | Show More Comments | Show All Comments | Page: 1 2 3 [next page]

Last thing, this doesnt really matter but makes more sense: Rename "flag" option on comments to: Mark as Spam

One more idea: Let us style and choose the colors displayed on the watch page maybe after you fix all the other crap.

For example maybe let us move where objects on the watch page go, or choose from a selection the colors/themes displayed, then more people will be happy but you'll use up all your bandwidth, you couldn't let that happen now could you =_=

    1. Keep Thumbs Up & Favorites Separate: People don't want to favorite a lot of the videos they see, but many do want to show their support in a smaller way, such as rating it high --- the rate up means you auto fav it, and rating down means nothing... just that you rated it down --- it's like "Hey, no obligations to rate down, but baggage if you rate it up"

This likely means less people will rate videos up because they probably only want their FAVORITE videos to be on their FAVORITES list.

    2. Keep Edit Subscription Option Exclusive To User Channels & Account Pages: The "Edit Subscription" button is much easier to access now being above every video, which means people are going to lose more impulsive subscribers than ever before.

Before it was just "Subscribe" and that's it --- but now it's almost suggesting they unsubscribe this likely = less might mean less views & subscribers for all YouTubers.

    3. Bring The Series Playlist Back: Partners used to have a series playlist automatically shown next to their videos, now you have to click "see all videos" just to view the other videos DIRECTLY RELATED to the video they're watching.

This means less views for all partners who use the series playlist --- and less likelihood people will continue watching videos due to the fact that there are no real related videos in site other than that which other people made --- if you're watching Shane Dawson, why would you chose to watch a video of some stranger talking about Shane Dawson over Shane Dawson himself? I would assume most wouldn't have an interest in clicking anyone else even without the Shane Dawson option, it likely just means a loss in overall traffic.

I mean, I personally wouldn't expect someone to click on my face while watching Mamma Mia, know what I mean?

    4. Return the video responses to just 4 at the top: The video responses are now set right next to the comments being displayed in a huge list instead of just showing the most recent four. This might have been great if most video responses weren't just spam --- so now we're mainly promoting spammers?

It's odd because right next to that list shows REAL related videos from the REAL video responders, so if someone is REALLY making a video response they'll show up there anyway.

    5. Also please considering bringing back an option to view all comments --- it's just so much easier for those who want to read them all, and shouldn't cost very much bandwidth.

So that's all the problems I had with this new layout for now YouTube --- if you fix these things, I will be a happy camper... if not, I'll just deal, as I'm really loyal to YouTube.

Split the favorites from the thumbs up.

Keep the edit subscription options to their original location and remove the option from the top of every video.

Bring the already expanded series playlists back.

Return the video responses to the horizontal four, instead of the crowded vertical 20.

I see that a lot of people have said this already, and it is important enough to keep repeating: "like" is NOT the same as "favourite" - just because we like a video enough to rate it positively doesn't mean we'll want it in our far more exclusive favourite section, and even though we only use the 1- and 5-star ratings we do like to see how many ratings there have been and in what sort of average they have resulted (even if heavily trolled - it would be a sad day indeed when ZOMGitsCriss could no longer say "your ratings make the vote-bots sad in their pants").
Also, by putting them above the title in smaller type, you have somehow made the author of the video and the subscribe button LESS noticeable (and is it such a good idea to have the display of the author's other work move the video down (it could be playing)?).
Anyway, good luck with this, but I do wish you would at least allow individual users to choose between the old look and this new one indefinitely.

I like it a lot but I think it'd be nice if you keep the "view all comments" option, and make "like" and "favorite" two separate buttons, otherwise I think a lot of people aren't going to click the like button, even if they do like it.

Also, when doing a search from the watch page with the video still playing, I notice there aren't any promoted videos on display. I think it would be nice if the promoted videos were showing too from within the watch page search results. I can imagine most searches will be performed from a watch page with this new redesign, so if promoted videos aren't displayed, then that's a lot of promoted videos not being seen.

Great stuff so far. The beta looks nice. Can't wait to see the final design.

Google is gonna force this SHIT on us just so they can make more money out of the big companies and their partners while the average user will be completely ignored!
BY REMOVING THE RATING SYSTEM, GOOGLE FORCES THE USER INTO HAVING TO WATCH A VIDEO WITHOUT KNOWING IF IT'S GOING TO BE GOOD OR NOT.
PARTNERS WILL GET EVEN MORE VIEWS BECAUSE 99% OF THE YOUTUBE USERS ARE GOING TO WATCH THE VIDEOS WITH THE MOST VIEWS AND NOT THOSE WITH THE BEST RATINGS.
I still can't believe that most of those fags don't care about this, our INDEPENDENCE and EGALITY will be taken away, view counts on non-partner videos will go down and sooner or later, we all will have to PAY for PARTNER-VIDEOS.

Google will not try to stop this bullshit, at least not if 99.9% of the people don't give a fuck!
    OPEN YOUR EYES!
Imagine if your bank would slowly start introducing new rules for the event of a market crash, so that they can terminate your account and take all the money off it in the VERY RARE CASE of a crash.
If they would inform you about these arrangements, would you just sit at home and say
"Oh well, they sure know what they're doing, it's not like they're planning something bad..."

And if you're one of those people who don't give a shit about anything, then fine, be that way, feed Google until we have 1984.
    OH WAIT, WE ALREADY DO.

This is a killer, in a bad way. As has been said above, there are tons of videos that I like that I have no desire to add to my favourites. This switch gives dissenters a much much stronger voice than those that enjoy videos but *just not quite enough* to want them cluttering up their favourites list. The subscription option is also far less visible while ad space seems unaffected. I know you guys have to make a profit, and I applaud efforts to streamline the experience, but this fundamentally changes how people use youtube and could make it much harder on independent content producers to build an audience. The comment changes are also unintuitive and make people take more steps to read all the comments in a long thread. It really does seem like a step backward and I hope that our voices will be taken into account before this gets pushed out to everyone.

Just in case someone is reading...

In general, I think it is a step forward. The page looks less cluttered and really makes the video the most important thing on the page, as it should be. Really like some of the new features as well, like displaying the list of search results, new video actions bar, playing the video after you search and the player options.

That said, there are a few suggestions. Some have been mentioned already:
    - "Like" and "Favorite" is not the meant to be the same thing.
    - The other videos on the right are not identified. I guess those are still "Related videos". That list should be shorten, makes the page way too long.
    - Move "Respond with a video/Video responses" to be below the video toolbar. It makes the comments panel way too small. Most videos don't have replies either way, it'll be often a blank wasted space.

Finally, a "clean design" does not equal clinically sterile. If you added some colors to the action panels, user info, et al, it would make the page a lot more user friendly and less bothersome.

I don't want to miss out on great videos just because they attract a lot of "don't likes" from people who are easily offended by, for example, opinions they don't like. So allow for weighting of videos primarily by the number of "likes" they get from friends. If a video gets 10 "likes" from my friends, and 1000 "don't likes" from people who I don't know and don't care about, I want it to show up at the top of MY list.

I've been using the new look for the past few days and today I finally decided to go back to the older look.

This is what I don't like:

the like/thumbs up = auto favorite (sometimes I want to show my support of the video by rating it but don't necessarily want to favorite it)

no "see all comments" option (if I want to go back and see a comment that I made on a video I would prefer to use this option instead of clicking through comments)

the subscription button is gray (should a color that stands out more, like before)

This is what I do like:

the ability to see the stats of each video (as a non partner content creator I like to view this information)

    What I miss:

the "library" view of people's videos (this was the only way I could make a quicklist of specific videos from specific content creators, at the very least I would like the option of an "add to quicklist" on the existing channel pages)

tl;dr = I don't like the new look, needs more work

YouTube, seriously?! Okay, first of all- the video watch page is FINE the way it is. And in fact, it has been better. If you really want to improve the ratings system? (tho that's the least needed change!) then TAKE A HINT FROM AMAZON.COM and IMDB.com- cuz the way they have it is that you can see exactly how many ratings each star has gotten. CHECK IT OUT. Next, comments? Again, take a hint from places like IMDB.com and LIVEJOURNAL.com and DEVIANTART.com- you can have NESTED/THREADED conversations, decent-sized icons, ACTUAL DATES and TIMES (in addition to the "ago"), etc! Why is this so how for you guys to figure out?? ALSO- the most important things that should be directly under a video are the amount of views, the amount of favorites, times it has been playlisted, and total times its been rated. Or at least, those used to be, when YouTube was much more user-friendly in 2006/2007. They could be again- which is what I choose to believe or I wouldn't still be here. Last but definitely not least, the summary needs to stay RIGHT WHERE IT IS, as does the "related videos" scrollbox and tabs (I don't need those vids cluttering up the entire page!); the only change really needed there is the amount of summary shown before expansion should be a bit more, and the tags should not be hidden either. That is it. Plain, simple, straight to the point.. a community site that will ~flourish~ under less intrusive designing. But I doubt you'll take any of this to heart, since you're so intent on wasting years of redesigning stuff that doesn't need fixing!

Why have you removed all the character from the design? It's too bland now.

I think that the thumbs up/down method would not help a video stand out. If someone likes a video but doesn't want it added to their favorites, they will be dicouraged from rating it. There might be more people who like the video but the thumbs down will show more since it wont add it to a "dislike" box I'm sure. If someone's browsing through videos, they don't want to waste their time looking at videos rated poorly, thus making it harder for rising you-tubers to get attention (and I'm in that boat).

Also, people will be discouraged to watch a video if they see thumbs down anyways. I would give a video a try if it has like 3 stars but if i saw the thumbs down, I wouldn't even waste my time, honestly.

The idea of combining favorites and ratings needs to go. In addition, there is too much wasted space. I want to be able to look at the full details on a video without clicking a button and moving the entire page down. Also, I'd prefer to have related videos and other videos from the channel within easy reach.

I suggest that you create several different styles, and allow the user to choose which one he/she would prefer:

A super-streamlined version for the retards who can't figure out how to use a normal GUI, and for people who have slow internet speed.

The current one for the average user.

And, a cluttered up one for people who have a lot of screen space, good internet access, and like having all functionality easily accessible.

    The New design is TERRIBLE!!

    1. like EVERYONE has mentioned, keep the like and favourite button separate. Plus I think star ratings are better.

    2. I can hardly see the subscribe button, it needs to STAY yellow.

    3. Label the related videos.

    4. Keep the "view all comments" button because some people want to read all their comments

    5. Keep the channel avatar.

    6. The description box was better on the left of the video.

Basically all I’m saying is, LEAVE THE VIDEO PAGE ALONE. There was nothing wrong with it and this new one looks to bland and lacks colour. The only thing I liked was that you can watch the video while searching, but the video should stay the same size instead of going smaller.

This new change will seriously hurt YouTube. It would be problematic to regular you tubers, as well as partners.

Another suggestion would be to let user choose how they want their page to look. Like arranging the page how they want, coloured subscription buttons etc.

If YouTube cares at all about its users, then they will take into consideration what we are all saying, or just leave the current design alone. Sadly, the only thing I think they'll change is separating the like/Favourite button.

I see YouTube as a family, and if something is going to change in the household, all (or a majority) members have to agree on it.

I feel with all these changes YouTube might not be around in a few years. Just leave well enough alone. Please take all that we are saying into consideration.

If YouTube wants to change something, a good thing to do would be to help youtubers with fewer viewers get more exposure. Now THAT'S a change I'm sure we can ALL agree on.

I suppose that if this is how it's going to be, then we'll all have to get used to it at some point in time.

So here's my thoughts on the new design.
    1) The Subscribe button needs to stay yellow. It has to stand out from the rest of the page.
    2) While it is a "cleaner" design, I feel it is also somewhat boring. Add some color. Maybe a grey box for the related videos (Which also need to be labeled again), or description box.
    3) As many have said, "Like" and "Favorite" need to be separate. I prefer the "Like/Dislike" rating system over the stars, but "Favorite" should be completely different from the rating.
    4) Partner banners need to be bigger. They have been reduced to almost nothing and you can hardly see them. They need to be made bigger and more visible, and shouldn't replace the username text above the video.
    5) There should still be a way to see the ratings on comments from everyone, not just us.

Other than these points, I can adjust.

    HOWEVER!
Personally, I don't think the pages should be changed at all.

    1. You need separate Like and Favorite buttons.
There are lots of videos I like and will rate as good, but I have no need or interest in favoriting. I think of videos in a channel. If I want to see it again, I just go back to the channel.

    2. Make it so we can scroll the comments and video lists while still watching the video!
Especially if I am watching videos in a Quicklist or play list, I have to pause the video before it ends to look at the comments or related videos, since the video has to scroll up.

    3. Keep the comments sorted the same between the regular view and "view all".
It is a pain when you see a comment in the regular view replying to another comment, and you have to leave the video and go to "view all" and then find that it is a thousand comments back. Either show the new comment with an arrow above it to expand the thread (preferred), or bring the whole thread to the top with the new comment.

I like the new size controls, although the rez controls always pop up as I am moving the mouse to the volume, and it covers up the volume slider. Can you adjust that a little so they don't overlap?

    Keep up the good work!

    THESE ARE TERRIBLE CHANGES!!!!!!
    all of them are HORRIBLE.
Google, you are not making good changes for YouTube. NOTHING (in my opinion) has improved. First you change small things, then channels, and now this. If this happens, I am opening my own video sharing website.

YouTube is like a celebrity obsessed with plastic surgery, I swear.

Just as we get used to one of their many pointless updates, we get ANOTHER ONE violently slammed into our faces.

I'm really hoping this site gets bought by somebody who cares about what we, the users, have to say instead of this retarded routine.

SUP GUYS WE'RE GOOGLE AND WE CAN DO WHATEVER THE BUTTFUCK WE WANT BECAUSE WE HAVE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WE DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO YOU POOR/MIDDLE CLASS PEONS IF YOU AREN'T A BILLIONAIRE, A CELEBRITY, OR A PARTNER WITH 1,000,000+ SUBSCRIBERS, THEN FUCK OFF BY THE WAY HERE HAVE ANOTHER POINTLESS UPDATE WE'RE GONNA CHANGE IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES

The quality button, or whatever you guys call it, the one with 360p on it, is annoying as it pops up every time I go for the volume button. Maybe it should be a button that only when pressed pops up the quality options.

Thank you for the great service!

Please delete all INACTIVE youtube users (1yr?)and their subscriptions , This would free up space and give an accurate view of subscriber counts for each channel and remove many duplicate accounts designed to boost their own subscriber count
