I really don't like the new Widescreen player. It could be an option to the user who uploaded the video to make the video playable on a widescreen or on the good and old player.
I like it, but on regular videos it doesn't look as great. I think it would be AMAZING if it only did it for videos in that format and the rest like normal. But still, i like the new size!
Is there anyway to retain the 4:3 option for regular videos? It would look great for a widescreen HD film, but it looks rather crude for everything else. Also, will the embedded size remain the same?
I agree with the comments that the 4:3 videos should still have the player 4:3, the black on the sides isn't appealing. but I imagine that would require the db having the videos aspect ratio recorded, if it's not already.
Also, who do we contact to switch moderators on Groups? I tried discussing it in the forum, but none of the staff answered (only one person gave a suggestion, but also didn't know how to get a clear hold of YT staff)
I don't like it you should be allowed to choose what form you watch your videos in and what form your videos are represented in I give this update a thumbs down

Sorry, I don't like it. I like the original size better, and the new size is too big and looks really terrible in my opinion. It take up too much space on the page. Please bring back the old player or give an option to use it.
I would like to commend youtube for keeping up with the times, and increasing their standards in video quality. I would like to point out, however, that the majority of youtube videos are in 4:3 SD format, and by implementing this change, only a small minority of videos can truly take advantage of the full space that his new video player provides. Many other youtube users have requested that an option be made available, so that they can best cater their video to fit the desires of their viewers. This would appease both 4:3 and 16:9 video uploads, as well as maintaining youtube's desire for high quality videos. theodore864
I think it would be nice if each account could choose what size they wanted to use. Just as an option. I don't/can't use the 16:9 ratio so my videos look "boxy".
I'm not a big fan of this. Mainly because 99% of my videos are 16:9, and yet are still letterboxing. What would be great is if we got to choose more options in the upload process. Like wheather or not we wanted that video to play in the widescreen player, or if we wanted the video to automatically crop or zoom into the full player (like on the iPhone/iPod touch,) etc.
Another thing is that the YouTube pages look really awkward. If anything, make the modules on the right of the page a little wider. It looks very weird with the left really wide and the right very narrow. Also, with the new page style, try applying it to every page. It's not consise and is kind of strange.
I don't know if it's possible, but the player should be the size and aspect ratio of the video that's playing in it. Maybe you can choose the aspect ratio of the player when you upload?
Also what does this do to embedded videos? If the embedded player is this big it will break the websites the player appears in.

Don't like this new player. A lot of the videos look terrible in them and the quality looks much worse. We should have the option of choosing which way we view videos.
I think we should have a choice. My videos look weird. People who have high quality videos should use it, but people like me working with a medium quality should get a choice.
I've been using 1024x768 forever and it looks really awkward and scrunched on my screen. I think a lot of people would like at least an option to choose how to play them or something, but you guys force a lot of these things on anyway so. :V
Also, the Youtube engine should be smart enough to judge whether or not to use the 16:9 format. Why use 16:9 when you're just going to have a lot of extra dead space on either side? There should also be a toggle button so the user can flip between the views, which would be useful for letterboxed movies.
Even YouTube Live clips don't have the aspect ratio to fill the player's width. This is great for videos that are widescreen, but for the rest it looks strange with bars on the side.
Please make it an option? A lot of videos look absolutely terrible now that the screen is humongous, and I want to be able to see the way people intended their video to look. I'd like my videos to be presented in the best possible way, and while this is a great idea, it just doesn't look very good. :( Nice idea, it just still needs a few tweaks.
Most users on YouTube can't shoot in widescreen, and 99% of videos on here are already in 4:3. I'm all for high quality videos, and I'm sure that people who can shoot in HD will benefit, but for the majority the change just makes the video, and the page layout, look terrible. It has to be optional.
Cool for vids that are widescreen. Fail for the 4:3 vids. It doesn't stretch or anything but the zillion mile wide black border around the video looks like crap.
Very nicely done. Happy to see that YouTube has joined the rest of the world with the 16:9 format. Also very nice that you arent stretching 4:3 videos and pillarboxing them instead. Bravo and thank you!
Can we please have the option to have it either size? The 4:3 videos look horrid in that player and the black border just intensifies that. The page layout is just akward now, with the description squashed to the side. So, I'm rooting for a change back to the 4:3 format.
why are you guys complaining? your vids will play and look just the same, and for the vids in widescreen its even better now that it doesnt get scaled down for height.
all thats changed is the comments and stats area is stretched wider now, but honestly, who goes on youtube for the comments?
suck it up - just because you cant record in widescreen doesnt mean there arent others who can.

I don't usually post on this blog, but I have to say I love this. I can understand harsh reception, everything radically new introduced in this world usually goes through the same thing. This looks like it goes to 2.4:1 widescreen right? Ah, whatever, it's great.
I never post on YT blogs, but seriously I think this is the worst change done to YouTube, considering most user videos were in the original 4:3 aspect ratio maybe (as plenty of others before me have said) this should be made optional?
Yeah, i agree that this should be optional in the account settings or even in the main page, i personally dont feel confortable watching 4:3 videos in widescreen

I like the idea of a Widescreen player, but I think this one is just a bit too big. Also, I uploaded some videos in 16:9 ratio a while back, but they appear to have been converted to 4:3. And then there some videos that I filmed in 16:9 that I converted to 4:3 myself, because it wasn't 'supported' back then. This results in those videos having a huge black border completely around them.
Widescreen is great, but I'd prefer it to be optional if possible. It makes all the 4:3 videos look like a mistake, like they were misformatted or something.
I do love the new aspect ratio because it works for film makers and directors who want to put higher res films up, however I mostly do vlogs and for vloggers like myself and others it is just a little bit of an annoyance of black space. I think it would be a great idea to make it an optional feature that can be turned on or off when the video is uploaded.
I see no difference in the quality from this new player. It's pretty stupid actually. I think that this should have been an option or a TestTube thing rather than an overall change. It seems that youtube no longer tests these new features or changes out anymore. Here is an idea that would make youtube better though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGgzM0_SL9E
This was totally unecessary and just makes 99% of videos look tiny in the new player. It needs to be optional, because 4:3 videos just aren't the same with hugw black bars on the side, and they're practically unwatchable in full-screen mode.
I think the wide screen makes the videos look bad. Many have put a lot of effort into editing our videos to fill the screen now that has been lost.It just looks bad and the videos look misshaped A waste of space. Please could it be optional?
I like the change. Some people will just have to suck it up and deal with it. If we constantly hold back features because of breakage (which, by the way, doesn't complete screw up videos) then nothing new will ever be implemented.
Well, personally I agree with Merrick0001 on this thought, we should be able to pick and choose the video player format.
However I have a thought, and perhaps request, Would it me possible to make the fullscreen mode sharper for lower quality videos on a 1280x1024 screen resolution?

I don't like it. Most videos don't fit the size and the black area's are very distracting. It also makes the screen look distorted. It was perfectly fine the way it was. I would prefer it gone, however and opinon between the two sizes would work fine as well.
Because no current video on the site can actually take advantage of this feature due to how you encode it,(although I'm sure you've changed this for future uploads) this feature should be an option to the user and the uploader to customize.
I'd like it more if you let people, or at least partners, re-upload old videos using 16:9. We recorded in 16:9 but letterboxed them to fit in 4:3. Now it'd be nice to be able to change the videos without losing all the comments and ratings.

The quality of 4:3 videos have reduced slightly, and when I watch in HQ the framerate gets choppy. I have videos thet are 16:9 on my channel and still dont come close to filling the box! I think the idea of making it optional is a good one.

I agree with this comment................ wh0m33 (posted Nov 24, 2008, 10:25 PM) It should play only if you're playing a 16-9 video, otherwise, whats the point in looking at a lot of black space?
The quality really isn't visibly better, and the black boxes on either side of 4:3 videos are distracting and unnecessary. The new player really ought to be an option for uploaders and/or viewers, if you must have it at all. There are still plenty of unfixed problems waiting.
Wow.. It looks like the best recommended video resolution by youtube isn't quite such a good idea anymore! Too bad I actually listened.. Because now I get the privelege of looking at 2 bars on each side! Its not like I have very good luck with yt anyways. Im Sorry but his made it even worse for me. At Least make it optional so we can have our normal sizes back for now please. Thanks!
I don't like it. I was on digg and clicked on a link to a Michael Jordan video, I restarted firefox a few times and opened youtube in another browser to see what was up. Not everyone in the world has a wide screen monitor. Some of us still have old monitors with low resolutions. Now the whole small video takes up half the screen. I don't even have the option of not watching the video full screen. If I want to see the video I now must make it full screen to view. I know this isn't that big of a deal but it is sorta crappy that I now must do that to see the video.
Awhile back youtube made some changes to their embedded player, I came to the blog and saw all the negative comments and they fixed the problem the next day. Youtube seems to listen to it's users so I'm hoping this new video player won't last long on the site. And if it does stay hopefully they'll do something to make it so people without widescreen monitors can watch the video without having to make it fullscreen.
This is really terrible. :\ It's distracting, makes the page look terrible, and is just a general annoyance. 4:3 videos now look like total crap, High Quality or otherwise, esspecially when being viewed in Full Screen mode.
The old video player would be nice; but options between the two might be better.
I really don't like Wide screen, though some people will. But it would be great to make it an option for the other users that don't like it.
For example, when they just start/finish downloading the video. There should be an option like "Make this a Wide Screen." clicking the box or not, should be the users decision.
Thanks for the effort, YouTube. Perhaps there is a way to make the width of the video window adjust automatically to the aspect ratio of the video that's being played? ... ALSO: It might be a good idea if the "text comments" scrolled like the "Related Videos" & "More From .." on the right column. That way, it would be possible to have the main video window REMAIN VISIBLE WHILE SCROLLING DOWN THROUGH THE COMMENTS.
Well I am not really liking it though it will have some uses. Some people will like it, others won't. Is there a possible way to maybe Make it so we can change the size back to normal or go wide screen? I think it will please everyone since this way, people can watch it wide screen or normal. I appreciate the look though.
1. have the player change dynamicaly to the aspect ratio. 2. option to take out the comment section for all the videos. 3. on mouse over, video images should be displayed. 4. download button for videos.
Seriously, change it back, YouTube. Either that, or alter it so that it doesn't affect videos that have already been uploaded specifically for 4:3 ratios. The giant black space is annoying, stretches the screen, cramps up the Description box, and looks ugly. While you're changing it back, you may as well fire the guy/gal who thought of this.
One of the best recommended video resolutions dont look so good anymore! Too bad I actually used the recommended size.. Because now I have to look at 2 bars on each side! This kinda made it worse for me. At Least make it optional so we can have our normal sizes back for now please. Thanks!
It needs major tweaking. Overall, it's a good idea, but it just, visually, isn't great. All of the videos in 4:3 need to be automatically resized. The huuuuge black box around it is really distracting. And the quality looks worse because of the non-pixely border.
I do, however, enjoy how newer videos look. I just think that the overall visual aspect leaves much to be desired.
As a video producer I like it. For those using FCP, what are the best export preferences/settings to use in order get the best image result when uploading to youtube?
I think the wide screen makes the videos look bad. Many have put a lot of effort into editing our videos to fill the screen now that has been lost.It just looks bad and the videos look misshaped A waste of space. Please could it be optional?
When I clicked on another video, and saw the huge screen, I thought, ''Crap, is my Firefox messing up again?'' Then I posted a thread on a forum and they said it was official, and linked me here. But it needs to be tweaked some, but I guess it's pretty cool.
sounds great. but I'm less interested in quality and more into threaded video comments coming off youtube and onto blogger? Disqus did it? Where are you guys on this?
I love, love, love it. HD and widescreen, you guys should have done this a long time ago. However, I realize why you couldn't. Bandwidth issues and all that. If you guys start putting up HD shows from major networks, I would see no reason to go anywhere else for my video needs.
Needs an option to switch back to normal aspect ratio. I already had small black bars at the side of my videos and now they're ridiculously huge. The video itself takes up hardly any space.
This really messes up the videos that most users have already uploaded. I thought something was wrong with my browser at first... so I think you guys should make it optional or get rid of it. It really makes our vids look awful.
I believe there should be an option to switch between 4:3 aspect ration and the new one. I know I can get used to the new player, but I think a option to switch between would be wise.
I hate the new screen. My videos all look bad now. Could you PLEASE make the new screen optional? How will I make videos that fit the big screen better??? Again, I really don't like it.
I like it for actual widescreen videos. Those look great. But for non-widescreen ones, they are not necessary. Or make it optional because the black bars are a bit annoying.
I'm usually open to trying new things, but this is just getting annoying, the black squares all around the picture i mean. Other than that I think it's a great update.
I think this is a great feature don't get me wrong but PLEASE but back the 4:3option. This means I have to redo all videos uploaded for a band as I fought to even make them high quality. Plus what do you do when a video isn't in widescreen and it was done in fullscreen??? There needs to be a choice here for each channel. There are black bars on either side and I don't like that part of it. I think the general population has spoken about this.
I really don't like the new Widescreen player. It could be an option to the user who uploaded the video to make the video playable on a widescreen or on the good and old player.
ReplyDeleteLove the new player box so much!
ReplyDeleteI like it, it's not that space eating either. :)
ReplyDeleteif i wanna fully use this new player, pls tell me the suitable size of videoes i should make for, thx.
ReplyDeletePlease compile an early list of all videos taking advantage of this new aspect ratio, youtube.
ReplyDeletei just noticed this. awesome!!
ReplyDeleteOMG THIS IS SOOOOOOO FREAKING AWESOME YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XD
ReplyDeletethat's what the fuck im talking bout good move
ReplyDeleteI like it, but on regular videos it doesn't look as great. I think it would be AMAZING if it only did it for videos in that format and the rest like normal. But still, i like the new size!
ReplyDeleteThank you.

ReplyDeleteGreat Surprise, looks good
ReplyDeletecan we have an option to use it, i don't like it
ReplyDeletecongratulations! i loved it!
ReplyDeleteso, can i send 16:9 videos with no problem now? in HD?
very pretty!
I like the old size better. Widescreen's good for DVDs, but not this. The 4:3 videos should still have the 4:3 player.
ReplyDeleteWORKS GREAT with the FlipVideo MINOHD WOWOWOW THANKS
ReplyDeleteMost videos are 4:3, and they look bad in this new player, can we get a new option to automatically change to 4:3 on 4:3 videos?
ReplyDeleteIt should change only when widescreen videos that format.
ReplyDeleteYeah... what over half the people said. Make this wider player optional or something. It's not good with all the smaller videos.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it. Even HQ vids look LQ when it's in widescreen. 4:3 should be the DEFAULT. And maybe add a widescreen format as another option.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very welcome change, and I applaud YouTube for making it.
ReplyDeleteRigth now i will upload a HD 16:9 to see how looks
ReplyDeleteMeh. Why not make it an option instead of making it mandatory? It looks especially off with those of us who prefer 4:3 in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it. Even HQ vids look LQ when it's in widescreen. 4:3 should be the DEFAULT. And maybe add a widescreen format as another option.
ReplyDeleteI'm not happy with the wider screen. I think the wider screen should be optional, especially since most of the content here is 4:3.
ReplyDeleteThat's great. Slowly but surely the internet will phase out the 800x600 resolution!
ReplyDeleteWhat is missing from your post however, are details on the optimal resolution.
With the new wide player, what is the best resolution to upload our videos with?
This is a nice feature. YouTube has done good--Good boy.
ReplyDeletei love it and i love the new hd
ReplyDeleteSuper Awesome been looking 4 this cause i love uploading in hd!!!

ReplyDeleteI don't have any problems watching videos in a widescreen mode, so it's a rather good update :)
ReplyDeleteSince the aspect ratio is now 16:9, and they said the new width is 960 pixels, I would be willing to bet that the best size is 960x540.
ReplyDeleteGreat move! Good Job YT!
ReplyDeletei love it!!
ReplyDeletei agree with NintendoTogepi
ReplyDeletei guess its alright
ReplyDeletei dont like it to b honest..wen i noticed it,i thought something was wrong with the settings on my account :-/ i liked the old one better!
ReplyDeletei really really really don't like it.
ReplyDeletemost videos are just surrounded by an awkward black frame, and it looks sort of terrible.
i love the new player, its awesome!

(almost)HD youtube! YES!!!!! AWESOME!!!!
ReplyDeletebut uhhh, you should just make the old 4:3 vids run in a 4:3 player....
anyway, kick ass!!!
I just love the changes on youtube, and I embrace it with so much joy.

ReplyDeletebut its good for upload PSP vids or other 16:9 vids form.
ReplyDeleteI agree.. there should be an option, and until then.. back to the boxy-ness!

i thk you should give us some choices, for example HD and SD vids, thats more Useful for us.
ReplyDeleteI dont like it at all
ReplyDeleteI prefer a extra option for this
like the high quality option
Can I now upload a widescreen video without having manually add the black bars at the top and bottom in an editing software?
ReplyDeleteAlso, is the new widescreen in 16:9?
I would like to suggest the ability to search users' comments in the comments section of a video so that I do not have to type Ctrl+F on my keyboard.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when viewing all comments for a particular video, it is very slow to scroll down. I would like to see a faster comments page.
sry to say, it sucks ASS. Congratz, you just ruined Youtube. (Also, please make this an option)
ReplyDeleteso far the majority doesnt like it,or wants it as an option..i say change it back,or option, because i dont like the widescreen :-/
ReplyDeleteAWESOME

this sucks ... make it an option
ReplyDeleteNo no noo... it needs to be optional.
ReplyDeletesry to say, it sucks ASS. Congratz, you just ruined Youtube. (Also, please make this an option)
ReplyDeletewell, *I* like it; perhaps making it an option would be better, though.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't this be optional? HD is after all. Not all of us have widescreen monitors...
ReplyDeletei love it.
ReplyDeleteThis needs to be an optional thing not everyone has the capacity for wide screen and it makes our vidoes look unimportant.
ReplyDeleteHORRIBLE.
ReplyDeleteSIMPLY FUCKING AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteMe encanto!!!
ReplyDeleteMe encanto!!!
ReplyDeleteI never post on YT blogs, but seriously I think this is the worst change done to YouTube, considering most user videos were in the original 4:3 aspect ratio maybe (as plenty of others before me have said) this should be made optional?
ReplyDeleteYeah, i agree that this should be optional in the account settings or even in the main page, i personally dont feel confortable watching 4:3 videos in widescreen

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a Widescreen player, but I think this one is just a bit too big.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME
ReplyDeleteFinally!!! I've been waiting for this for so long!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWidescreen is great, but I'd prefer it to be optional if possible. It makes all the 4:3 videos look like a mistake, like they were misformatted or something.
ReplyDeleteOK, I agree the 4:3 formats look whacky with the wide view but not used.
ReplyDeleteAnybody know if those old videos will be fitted or should we just start to delete and re-upload all the old videos now???????
Optional sure would be nice. Cause those smaller videos in bigger windows are actually hard to look at.
4x3 is done son! finnaly!
ReplyDeleteYoutube you just keep impressing me
ReplyDeleteI've watched this site grew ever since you guys were slowing promoting and publishing yourself
good stuff
I do love the new aspect ratio because it works for film makers and directors who want to put higher res films up, however I mostly do vlogs and for vloggers like myself and others it is just a little bit of an annoyance of black space. I think it would be a great idea to make it an optional feature that can be turned on or off when the video is uploaded.
ReplyDeleteI see no difference in the quality from this new player.
ReplyDeleteThis was totally unecessary and just makes 99% of videos look tiny in the new player. It needs to be optional, because 4:3 videos just aren't the same with hugw black bars on the side, and they're practically unwatchable in full-screen mode.
ReplyDeleteI think the wide screen makes the videos look bad. Many have put a lot of effort into editing our videos to fill the screen now that has been lost.It just looks bad and the videos look misshaped
ReplyDeleteA waste of space. Please could it be optional?
Thank you..XD I really appreciate listening to our feedback.
ReplyDeleteI like youtube how it was. STOP CHANGING STUFF!
ReplyDeletethanks for getting right on it!
ReplyDeleteIt should be our decision whether or not we use a 16:9 vs 4:3 aspect ratio movie player. We should be able to pick.
ReplyDeleteI like the change. Some people will just have to suck it up and deal with it. If we constantly hold back features because of breakage (which, by the way, doesn't complete screw up videos) then nothing new will ever be implemented.
ReplyDeleteWell, personally I agree with Merrick0001 on this thought, we should be able to pick and choose the video player format.
ReplyDeleteHowever I have a thought, and perhaps request, Would it me possible to make the fullscreen mode sharper for lower quality videos on a 1280x1024 screen resolution?

ReplyDeleteI don't like it. Most videos don't fit the size and the black area's are very distracting. It also makes the screen look distorted. It was perfectly fine the way it was. I would prefer it gone, however and opinon between the two sizes would work fine as well.
ReplyDeleteCome on! At least make it optional. I can't stand it.
ReplyDeleteWhat good is this for videos uploaded in standard format?
ReplyDeletePlease make it an option. The black border is distracting.
ReplyDeleteBecause no current video on the site can actually take advantage of this feature due to how you encode it,(although I'm sure you've changed this for future uploads) this feature should be an option to the user and the uploader to customize.
ReplyDeleteGreat! About time! Is it a better quality encoder too? If so, what?
ReplyDeleteinstead of constantly changing and adding new things...y not fix the things u already have?
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks YouTube! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree that a 4:3 alternative should be available though, however I don't really mind either way.
It's not as if the new player detracts from the quality of the 4:3 videos.
Great! About time! Is it a better quality encoder too? If so, what?
ReplyDeleteI'd like it more if you let people, or at least partners, re-upload old videos using 16:9. We recorded in 16:9 but letterboxed them to fit in 4:3. Now it'd be nice to be able to change the videos without losing all the comments and ratings.
ReplyDeleteCan You Please Change It Back To The Normal Screen
ReplyDeleteLove it youtube! gotta upload more 16:9 videos!

ReplyDeleteThe quality of 4:3 videos have reduced slightly, and when I watch in HQ the framerate gets choppy. I have videos thet are 16:9 on my channel and still dont come close to filling the box! I think the idea of making it optional is a good one.

ReplyDeleteP.S: Sorry for the double comment, it must be some sort of glitch or something.
ReplyDeleteIt should play only if you're playing a 16-9 video, otherwise, whats the point in looking at a lot of black space?
ReplyDeleteI agree with this comment................

The quality really isn't visibly better, and the black boxes on either side of 4:3 videos are distracting and unnecessary. The new player really ought to be an option for uploaders and/or viewers, if you must have it at all. There are still plenty of unfixed problems waiting.

ReplyDeleteim excited to see the change!! i always kinda hated that my digital videos had the black bars. it looks better! thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWow.. Thanks!
ReplyDeletei'm not sure if its just me, but it seems like the quality of many existing videos has been affected. (vids are stretched too far horizontally, etc)
ReplyDeleteI don't like it.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the Downtown Tony Brown Video from the Bad Boys of Comedy.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited about this! This is great news!
ReplyDeleteAwhile back youtube made some changes to their embedded player, I came to the blog and saw all the negative comments and they fixed the problem the next day. Youtube seems to listen to it's users so I'm hoping this new video player won't last long on the site. And if it does stay hopefully they'll do something to make it so people without widescreen monitors can watch the video without having to make it fullscreen.
ReplyDeleteThis is really terrible. :\ It's distracting, makes the page look terrible, and is just a general annoyance. 4:3 videos now look like total crap, High Quality or otherwise, esspecially when being viewed in Full Screen mode.
ReplyDeleteThe old video player would be nice; but options between the two might be better.
I really don't like Wide screen, though some people will. But it would be great to make it an option for the other users that don't like it.
ReplyDeleteFor example, when they just start/finish downloading the video. There should be an option like "Make this a Wide Screen." clicking the box or not, should be the users decision.
Thanks for the effort, YouTube.
ReplyDeletePerhaps there is a way to make the width of the video window adjust automatically to the aspect ratio of the video that's being played?
ReplyDeleteexcelent!
ReplyDelete1. have the player change dynamicaly to the aspect ratio. 2. option to take out the comment section for all the videos. 3. on mouse over, video images should be displayed. 4. download button for videos.
ReplyDeletelooks amazing! a brilliant change..thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt way better, and to the people complaining about black bars, you always have them with 4:3 videos if you have a widescreen monitor.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, change it back, YouTube. Either that, or alter it so that it doesn't affect videos that have already been uploaded specifically for 4:3 ratios. The giant black space is annoying, stretches the screen, cramps up the Description box, and looks ugly. While you're changing it back, you may as well fire the guy/gal who thought of this.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best recommended video resolutions dont look so good anymore! Too bad I actually used the recommended size.. Because now I have to look at 2 bars on each side! This kinda made it worse for me. At Least make it optional so we can have our normal sizes back for now please. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt needs major tweaking.
ReplyDeleteOverall, it's a good idea, but it just, visually, isn't great.
ReplyDeleteIts about time! Widescreen Youtube - now thats some change I can believe in!
ReplyDeleteI think the wide screen makes the videos look bad. Many have put a lot of effort into editing our videos to fill the screen now that has been lost.It just looks bad and the videos look misshaped
ReplyDeleteA waste of space. Please could it be optional?
When I clicked on another video, and saw the huge screen, I thought, ''Crap, is my Firefox messing up again?'' Then I posted a thread on a forum and they said it was official, and linked me here.
ReplyDeleteBut it needs to be tweaked some, but I guess it's pretty cool.
Can we have the option to reupload a widescreen version of our 4:3 videos?
ReplyDeleteI realy like this new size, because its no longer the size of a post stamp:)
ReplyDeleteWhat are the HQ upload settings for Youtube widescreen.
ReplyDeleteA BIG THANK YOU for the New Format!
Make it optional please.. like this:
ReplyDelete"Watch in HD quality. Watch in widescreen."
Too easy.
sounds great. but I'm less interested in quality and more into threaded video comments coming off youtube and onto blogger? Disqus did it? Where are you guys on this?
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Two thumbs up! (Perhaps it should be optional just so we don't have to listen to all the holdouts for square videos groan and moan.)
ReplyDeleteI always liked the 4:3 video player, but this one is good too. But, is there gonna be a option to switch between the two? Just saying...
ReplyDeleteThe black bars on either side are really distracting. Better to just make widescreen an option, and leave 4:3 videos as they were before.
ReplyDeleteI love the widescreen player! Much better! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThis just sucks. I finally got my videos to have the HQ option, now it looks like shit again with the black bars.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love it. HD and widescreen, you guys should have done this a long time ago. However, I realize why you couldn't. Bandwidth issues and all that. If you guys start putting up HD shows from major networks, I would see no reason to go anywhere else for my video needs.
ReplyDeleteAwesome.
ReplyDeleteWill there be an option to switch? I'm not too big a fan of the wider screen
ReplyDeletein my opinion it sucks monkeyballs. i mean come on. are you serious? wtf!?
ReplyDeleteit's so bad, it's so ass!
Needs an option to switch back to normal aspect ratio. I already had small black bars at the side of my videos and now they're ridiculously huge. The video itself takes up hardly any space.
ReplyDeleteThis really messes up the videos that most users have already uploaded. I thought something was wrong with my browser at first... so I think you guys should make it optional or get rid of it. It really makes our vids look awful.
ReplyDeleteI believe there should be an option to switch between 4:3 aspect ration and the new one. I know I can get used to the new player, but I think a option to switch between would be wise.
ReplyDeleteI hate the new screen. My videos all look bad now. Could you PLEASE make the new screen optional? How will I make videos that fit the big screen better??? Again, I really don't like it.
ReplyDeletei hope youtube restore back the old option that view video in original size,i dont' like zooming,it's only make video more blury and blocky
ReplyDeleteBigger Isn't Always Better...just like youself said youtube...
having black bars on the sides of every single video on youtube looks ridiculous
ReplyDeleteswitch it back now, plz
I like it for actual widescreen videos. Those look great. But for non-widescreen ones, they are not necessary. Or make it optional because the black bars are a bit annoying.
ReplyDeleteI love widescreen but I think an option to switch back to 4:3 is necessary
ReplyDeleteI'm usually open to trying new things, but this is just getting annoying, the black squares all around the picture i mean. Other than that I think it's a great update.
ReplyDeleteWe need an option to switch back to 4:3.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great feature don't get me wrong but PLEASE but back the 4:3option.
ReplyDeleteInstead, give content providers the ability to choose which aspect ratio is best for which video, yeah?
ReplyDelete
