I found the format of this debate very interesting. It was great to see the average American able to ask questions of each candidate. I see it also engages younger voters like myself to pay more attention to these important issues that face us. I do however agree with a comment I read that complained about the lack of follow-up to many of the answers provided. I also feel that some important topics such as immigration weren't even touched. It was, in my humble opinion, much more of a showy discussion than an actual debate. While, of course, they must be civil and diplomatic, too much time was spent on being friendly and complimenting each other.
As for commentary on the responses themselves: Clinton's response regarding meetings with dictators was seemed like a very intelligent and well thought out answer and was highly effective at showing not only her "follow through thinking," but also Obama's naivte' on international diplomacy that is so crucial today. She is a strong person and very direct and straight forward in the way she speaks, which is something we need. I read comments that more or less stated that she came across as cold and devoid of enthusiasm and that Obama and Edwards were much more "engaging." To this I must ask do we want a president that is a fun speaker to watch or do we want one that states information clearly and concisely and who shows the kind of strong will it takes to really achieve things in government That said, Kucinich hit the nail on the head in stating that all we need to do to stop the war is to stop funding it and that we don't need to wait for a new president in order to facilitate change. The American people need to remember the principles that this country was founded upon and we need to stand up, speak out and truly question our leaders. We must demand from them what we want. Is that not democracy? This is the first time in many years that I have seen even a mild turn away from apathy in politics, especially among my generation. This doesn't mean that we are where we need to be and is absolutely reprehensible. I challenge anyone that reads this to really do their research and to vote for the candidate who they think will do the best job as president regardless of whether or not they are a "front runner". This is the only way to get what you truly want from your president. I challenge them also to not vote based upon gender or race or ethnicity. These trivial classifications should be taken with a grain of salt. Think consciously and hard about this important decision that faces you. Even if you choose not to vote, that choice will affect you.
CNN must not be allowed to select which videos are chosen for the debate. This gives the news media a chance to tweak the debate however they see fitting to their agenda, and indeed the candidates had unbalanced amounts of speaking time. When Obama is allowed to speak four time longer than Gravel, it's obvious there is some favoritism going on that is not necessarily of the people.
For this to be a truly democratic event, YouTube users should be able to select which of the videos make the cut. And this doesn't have to be straight up voting. The process may include an algorithm for comparing tags to be sure a full range of issues are addressed, etc. Just let the people decide. The event was supposed to give any webcam wielding citizen a chance to voice out, not just the favorites of the news media.

John Edwards showed his true colors as a total hypocrite. He's in it to "take away power" from "big business". What a jerk. Has he looked at his breck-girl face in the mirror. He is capitalizing on taking away power from big business. Every dollar of settlement won, he gets at least one-third of it. He is a disgrace and has zero credibility and needs to bow out now before he humiliates himself anymore. Too bad Elizabeth wasn't there to shovel him out of the mess he dug himself into.
We thought the video questions were much better than the ordinary debates;however, as usual, Anderson's own bias was present in the video selection and in his arbitrary picks about who answered what. We think a balanced group of people should select questions and there needs to be some balance of fairness for the debaters. We think Anderson Cooper should be more of a journalist and less of an editor.
I found it quit interesting however tho I would pull our troops out as soon as possible enough is enough, and if any terrorist attack us either here or abroad the united states should attack at once at there heartland and show them we are not fooling around anymore if so be wherever the terrorist are hiding or whatever country is hiding them .that country should be bomb at once war is war this hit and run is for the chickens.if they want war lets show them what we got .innocent people must die to prove a point what is war a game? war is war and people must die to end it once and for all
The DNC clearly wants a Clinton/Obama ticket for '08. I Think they have been setting that up from the beginning. Why do we even have debates??? We already know who our next pres and vice is going to be!
I watched the democratic debate and was surprised at how many questions were focused on race. I have my own conspiracy theories but this is not the place to air them. However, I felt more compelled to vote for one of the lesser names over hillary or obama. Besides my political hatred for Hillary she always has that smug look on her face. And Obama I could live with. I'd like to see him step up more not as a man of color but as a person who I could believe to be the next President.
It's very telling that Hillary Clinton was unable to turn to her left and say "one nice thing" about Barack Obama when every other candidate was able to do so. It was disappointing and spoke volumes about her character, or lack thereof. As a voter and a woman, I will not vote for her - I think it is in the small moments when we show our true colors most
Excellent format...however, once again, we are missing the "debate" portion of the debate. I want to see the candidates defend their positions against each other. I understand that timing is critical in a broadcast like this and there was a desire to pose as many questions as possible, but perhaps a themed debate would work. We do have almost a year and a half left before we even vote...there is plenty of time for debates focusing on one or two topics. I must say it was much better to see fellow citizens asking questions instead of talking heads...and they were good questions.

Can't be anymore impressed with the work CNN/YOUTUBE did. Some videos were absolutely hilarious and well thought. I can't wait for the Republican debate!
They should have let the 5,000 people on Community Counts pick the questions, not 3 editor people.
My question was featured in Newsweek, Mercury News, Chicago Public Radio, it was the 1st most popular for 2 weeks, currently 2nd, and was it asked? No. I'll try next debate!
I thought it was interesting how Dennis Kucinich was completely ignored during most of the debate-Anderson continuously cut him off in the middle of his answers, even though other candidates (Obama, Clinton, Biden) got to talk for as long as they wanted. Obviously, anyone who isn't a "mainstream" candidate gets ignored.

It hardly matters how you ask the questions or whether they are delivered via video or Pony Express. American politicians (not to mention voters) are, by and large, anti-intellectual nitwits. Politicians get where they are by pandering to the biggest mob and promising them goodies at the expense of others, all the while remaining just vague enough to get by. The YouTube "debates" are a gimmick, nothing more. We Americans will continue to get the representatives we deserve, regardless of how we pretend to elect them.
Why was there no question about, and no mention whatsoever of, the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, possibly the single most important issue in Middle East politics? Why was there no question about, and no mention of, the wildly inordinate influence of the pro-Israel lobby over U.S. Middle East foreign policy, possibly the single most important issue regarding U.S. Middle East foreign policy?
The CNN/YouTube debate is, apparently, as carefully sanitized and filtered to suit the demands of "the Lobby" as every other function of Big Media.
When former president Jimmy Carter was here in April, he asked some 7,000 cheering Iowans who gathered to hear him talk about his book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, to put this pledge to every candidate seeking nomination for the presidency: "If elected president I will do everything possible to promote negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians to achieve peace and security for Israel and a secure and contiguous state for Palestinians."
"If they won't make this pledge to you, do not support them," said the former president, who, through the Camp David Accords, gave Israel it's only peace treaty with an Arab nation, Israel, a treaty which has never been violated.
That would be a good question to put to the candidates on future CNN/YouTube debates.

i thought the presentation was stunning. It was a priviledge to watch history in the making. this just leaped us light years into the future of how america will conduct politics. the disconnection between candidate and average citizen is repaired. thanks alot Youtube for making me apart of this!
This is how a debate should be conducted. The candidates are asking for our votes so we should be asking the questions. I can't wait to see how the Republicans handle this format.
Why was Barac Obama able to talk as long as he wanted but people like Hillary and Dennis kucinch werent????interesting to me that CNN SELECTIVELY picked out tough /insulting questions for only Hillary Clinton!!yet she still gives the best answers and in my opinion and many others won yet another debate!if your going to have another debate like this which btw didnt really work and was all over the place!!you need to not only pick on Hillary and Edwards but All the canidates need to get tough /personal questions!!it was pretty lopsided,I thought Dennis ,Hillary Joe Biden ,and Chris Dodd did the best!!Barac Obama once again never really asnwers the questions!and is the most abstract canidate ive ever seen.I wish someone would ask him a TOUGH question for once!because as it is he fumbles through the easy ones!!Over all I think Hillary Clinton won!!but this format does not work!
A very interesting television format. Of particular interest was that the canidates were not prepared like in other major debates. You have to be quick on your feet. Don't know how this would work in debating detailed policies in order for the electorate to make an informed decision.

This format didnt work!!!why were certain canidates(Barac Obama)able to go on for hours like that, the guy dosent say anything substantial!!!Hillary was attacked like usual from young, dumb youtubers!!she still managed to come out on top though!CNN is so biased!!!they SHOULD NOT be allowed to edit and pick and choose that sucks!!And other canidates barely got to speak!! i thought this format sucked!!
I think the format was good for a start. More debates like this is needed in order to elect a truly qualified candidate for President. From the looks of things last night, none of them are yet qualified enough to take on the ever growing problems that the US has in and out of her boundaries. My problem was with dumb questions like who was your favorite teacher that made it through. That doesn't matter when it comes to wellfare of citizens and residents of the US.
#1 POST INFORMATION ABOUT THE PERSON PROVDING THEIR YOUTUBE COMMENT --> - Age, Sex, Religion, Nationality, Sexual preference. Or at least basic info like - Are they a registered Voter? - Which Party? - Have they ever voted? - How many times have they voted? - Have they ever been convicted of a crime?
#2 Allow an Independent Group of Republican, Democrat and Independent or other people pick and choose the various YouTube videos to be shown. - Or maybe figure out a way to do it randomly, but at the same time capture all of the subject matter that you would like to cover. - Have YouTubers Vote on the Subject matter which to include?
#3 Also, I want to know if the candidates had any knowledge of the questions before hand?

They need to Turn off the Mic when time is up. Period. It shows the ability to controle ones thoughts and follow the rules like they expect everyone else in America to do.
Who saw the article from Madaline Albright (Clinton Camp) talking about Obamas statement about meeting with International Leaders who hate America --> "SPADEWORK" ... SPADE ... get it?
Greate question about Minimum wage. Now we need to ask each cadidate how many days out of the calandar year where they working? And, to tell the American people how much money they make from their jobs and how much they have all together. I know this info is public but I want to see their faces when they say they are worth 20 million dollars and then go on to talk about Poverty and curing this issue...Yhea How ???
Isn't it amazing that politicians talk about the same issues every election campaign season and people are like dumb "%^# that still applaud to it. Candidates always talk about "for the good of our children; for the benefit of our aging mothers and fathers; education etc." because those can easily get vote. I guess Americans of this generation (I mean those who vote) are so stupid that they elect whoever is the popular candidate. No matter what Pol Party he or she is in. Why complain about the kind of government we have. We deserve it.
Well, you can complain about the sorry state of American politics, or you can get drunk and groove to the latest video by Only Ed and The Almost: "She Stole My Beer." Clean, crisp, beechwood aged, never gassy, always "just right!" It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfNQUX0R_ds
This was not an innovative debate at all; Kucinich and Gravel were forced to the margins and prevented from talking just like the mainstream ones (but not the superior pbs debate.) The time limits, in addition, were pathetic; let them go on as long as they want to, they will be in office for four whole years! Otherwise, how disgusting those pathetic, religous, homophobic hypocrites are! And hillary clinton called herself a progressive! Someone throw a dictionary at her...
I agree this was NOT the best format, you didnt really get to see anyone actually DEBATE! I also agree that Barac Obama talks way too much,he goes on and on and on!and he is NOT very exciting to listen to.I LOVE Dennis Kucinich he to me is new blood!! not Barac Obama, god he dosent even support gay marriage and gets all of his money from big lobbyists! Ill be honest I do Think Hillary won the debate, but I am for Dennis all the way!
Even though citizens sent in video questions, the moderators still picked the questions they wanted asked (and the ones they didn't.) It's an illusion of democracy. The day I see someone ask a candidate what they think about the power the Israel lobby holds over Washington on a national debate I'll revise my opinion.
The CNN/YouTube debate was a joke and sadly it treated the very audience it supposedly aimed at gaining viewer ship from as if we didn't really know anything about politics. As for any fault with Youtube, I would say it was due to the lack of control youtube had in the debate. CNN on the other hand presented it in a very whorish fashion typical of mainstream media. I would only hope that next time the questions asked will not be chosen by CNN.

i agree with sherimoonluv Kucinich is a bright guy, is articulate and has good ideas but the media won't let him speak. I blame editortube for everything including, but not limited to, earthquakes, bad weather and high gas prices.
I agree with so many others here in regards to a select few got all the time they wanted and yet others got no time at all. Also to call this a debate is wrong as well. Nobody debated anything, it was a basic and simple Q&A period. I think that the questions which were chosen could have been a lot better and more "non-mainstream". Notice no questions were raised over the illegal immigration issue which is plaguing the US!!! I also agree with the fact that there should be a microphone kill switch. You get "X" amount of time and then dead air....next question!!!!!
The questions were soft and CNN editors must of picked the easy ones that wouldn't really put anyone on the spot. All question regarding getting out of Iraq was plan stupid and adhered to the Democrat rhethoric. NOT ONE QUESTION OR BREATH UTTERED ANYTHING REGARDING TERRORISM. HMMMM. I must state that the debate was a waste of my time
The CNN/YouTube debate stunk!!!It was SO damn boring!!and I agree with alot of you on here Barac Obama is given so much time to ramble on and he comes off very GREEN!One question that showed this was his answer on being so eager to run around the world and meet every world leader,WRONG answer Barac!Hillary had the best answer on that and she really is the best and brightest, hey im a guy and I have the balls to admit it!!you really see it in these debates! She just plain and simple shows the rest up,you cant outmatch her intelligence!but as others have said I do like Dennis Kucinich and he is my second choice,Chris Dodd is not bad either.
This was a good first start, but I would like to see lots of changes on the CNN side. First, the reduction of questions should be reduced by the interested YouTube Viewers, registered Democrats likely to vote who can verify their registration on-line somehow at YouTube. YouTube can provide the links to become registered if states will allow this process. Second, the candidates with the most money should NOT be front and center. Use a randomize assignment, or have them change places during the debate. The podiums should be discarded, and maybe candidates should be randomly presented on stage in pairs that face each other for a given series of questions. A true debate is one to one, not a group concensus format. Let the candidates measure each other up mano a mano
It really bugged me that some of the questions were aired solely to show just how Hip CNN was.
Having the Fake Rednecks video air with a softball question, as well as the other videos selected to get a laugh felt to me that this was more about pandering to the 18-34 demographic than anything else.
Some of the comments reflect the classic fact that at times we can't see the forest for the trees. This was a new thicket, unlike any before it, and yet it's obvious value -- that it fosters exchange -- has gone unappreciated by some here. I for one considered it path-breaking. What can be improved, I think, is a few more "gotcha" questions. I also think that more than one candidate should answer a question at all times, but I got the feeling that this was a time-management issue.

That was a great debate to me! I really loved that is came from real folks like me! All were true, original and sometimes funny. I generally liked all of the questions!
this was NOT a good debate to me!!the questions were really puff!!we need someone in there asking questions of substance so we can all see that canidates like Barac Obama have no substance!!
Typical, Democrat liberals giving typical liberal responses to mostly trivial questions.
America's most famous girly-man, John Edwards, favored us with a fashion statement. That was strictly PEOPLE magazine stuff.
I wonder if the Republican Q&A session will be as fluffy. I'm betting it will be a much more serious affair. I hope to hear something of substance with that one.
If President Bush wasn't on the popularity skids and the Republicans had a surefire candidate, none of the Democrat kids would stand a chance to be elected president. As it stands now, the presidency is theirs to lose. But, it's early in the game and the Democrats have a losing track record. Even when it looked like a sure thing.
The powers that pull the strings of the Democrat party seem to favor Obama at this point. He gets much more face time than he deserves. He is also getting much more money than his novice candidacy deserves. I'm sure the Clinton, battle forces are gearing up for a death match in the near future. I predict that Obama will go down in flames under a withering Clinton, full frontal attack. About the same time, Al Gore, the high priest of global warming, will step in to save the Democrat party from Mrs Clinton's socialistic predilections. It will be a mad race to the finish line from there and possibly mutual destruction of both candidates as they desperately try to hammer each other into submission. WOW! What a preview. I can't wait for the movie.
i think they are mest up i do not greed about sending more troop and us. should not go into irag years ago . i think it's irag job to fright there on own war not us they need money for schools in mass state and others states and other things and not war? i world not vote for bush and roney.

I've always voted GOP but my choices are 'limited' this time around. I'll support John Edwards if they can't come up with anyone worth voting for. I was really surprised how well he did. I'm sorry, Hillary. If you'd have left him, I'd consider supporting you.. But if you'll put up with a cheating spouse, what else will you put up with?
Oh yeah, one more thing..during Viet Nam, we lost more soldiers in one month than during this whole Iraq thing.. The younger generation is an instant pudding generation. They want it NOW.
The vast majority of returning soldiers don't want to be there, but they believe leaving too soon would be very bad for this country.. I wish the candidates had covered that a little better.

The debate page is so poorly implemented that it slows my 1.8 GHz computer to a crawl. Perhaps, less vids on the page? Or at least just show the pictures linking to where the video is on the site? Just a thought...
I don't like that CNN gets to choose the videos. They should be decided per rating or voting on Youtube. And although some questions were very good, the answers remained mostly the same standard ones...
I think it is hypocritical of Barack Obama to make the statement that his Christian beliefs value the seperation of church and state. He needs to recap his history, the first act of congress was to hand bibles out to the people, and in fact some of the capitol buildings where used as churches. Look at what our founding fathers wrote pertaining to the declaration of independence and constitution of the united states. It seems God is mentioned by our goverment (then), why wouldn't our goverment mention it now???? I think the Democratic party is struggling. When they can't stand on their own merits all they can is Bash the republicans. And the republicans do the same. I'm really getting tired of the same old promises with no deliveries. Lets be honest, do you really think anyone of them would work for minimum wage???? They are all liars. Our true patriots would be turning over in their graves if they saw that circus on CNN.
Sorry, I don't where else to ask this, but why is YouTube manipulating the search-engine? When I do a search on Olbermann, the newest videos are 2 days old, though for instance the item with Gen. Wesley Clark was posted yesterday with the tag "olbermann".
Youtube is no longger the youtube we knew. it is no longer responsive to users. It is now editortube and is responsive to corporate advertisers. We need a newtube just like the original YT. Remember how good it was?
This is totally unrelated to this post, but I didn't know where else to ask. It could be just on my end but it seems searching for any keyword on youtube by "date added" hasn't been bringing any new results for the past 2 days, any search I do brings the same result, the newest results showing uploaded 2 days ago.
I blame the retards who asked questions as snowmen and those trying to be stupid and "creative" with their questions as the reason that Giuliani and Romney are pulling out of the Republican debates...nice job, morons...you gave them an excuse to not have to answer serious questions from the American people! The real reason? They know that Ron Paul would desimate them!
SUPPORT YANI AT myspace.com/mygetmoneydayz I HAVE A BREAKING STORY FOR AMERICA AND ITS COMING SOON so STAY tuned. GOD BLESS AMERICA JESUS oh I GET IT don't I...
This scares the hell out of me. George Herbert Walker Bush 1989 - 1993 William Jefferson Clinton 1993 - 2001 George Walker Bush 2001 - 2009 That 20 years, ellect Hillary Clinton for 4 years and we have almost a quarter of a century with this great country being ran by two familys. Surely there are more familys then these two who can produce a president. We have to stop their Dynasties
1. CNN should never have been allowed to select the questions, they could have been by rating or first come first serve basis. 2. Barack Obama was given an inordinate amount of air-time when he certainly had nothing of essence to contribute. 3. Anderson Cooper needs to learn moderator skills, and he has to be FAIR, this was absoutely not handled in a professional manner. 4. why would you want to break for commercials during a serious debate like this? this just shows how much CNN has sold out to the advertisers. As it during a 30 minute news segment on CNN, the actual news broadcast is barely 12 minutes. 5. I hope they do this again, just be better prepared and honest, let each candidate get equal opportunity and the let the questions be asked regardless of the 'political correctness' of each question. After all this is the United States of America.
CNN just announced that only Ron Paul and John McCain agreed to appear in the Republican YouTube event. It seems that Mitt and Rudy are scared of facing Ron Paul again in the debates that will have unscripted questions. Paul's straight forward and honest answers will make the others look terrible.
It's a dopey format. I don't blame the Republican's who don't plan on attending the debate. It's a complete waste of time getting questioned by a 5 year old, who isn't old enough to vote, let alone think for themselves.
I thought the format was good. I thought it was very interesting though that even still the politicians were not good at addressing the questions. I thought if anybpdy actually did consistently adress the questions they would do well in this format.
Why not have Hilary as president, Obama as VP., John Ed. as sec. of state, and joe B. as another cabinet member? Why must they "fight" for the top position? Better yet, why don't they pool their talents and make an outstanding team of Democrats that can really make a change for the US and other world leaders?
the format was not good but as you said that was the first time using it, i expect a better during the republican debate. I think Hilary did well. she will be a good president.
The Red State Update in which the two guys from Tennessee ask the candidates was nothing more than a cheap shot. Directv which has a channel called 101 airs the Red State Update.
That my friends just proves how much we the public don't really matter in the eyes of our elected official.s
The debate was, in my view, nothing but the "clapping clock" syndrome. When you have a perfectly good digital clock but technology allows you to buy a "better" clock which hides the the numbers until you clap. In other words it does not improve the basic product and is only technology for technology's sake. This was the gist of the YouTube debates. Same questions with different technology with the same answers. My bet is the Republicans take a giant pass.

the speaking time for the candidates was totally unbalanced and unfair. the fact that gravel hardly got to answer on any big questions is really disgraceful, its obvious that cnn are favorising certain candidates. but this doesnt really surprise me, what isnt corrupt in america today?
It was a little 'aimed' at the top three or so on each side.... It could be a great thing these days, giving the voices of the nation are consumed by the internet. Go Google!

The Republican Debate tonight was a pile of crap. The SAME questions for some weird reason were presented on a few issues. What is the point of that?Anderson Cooper is a flake.
It was worse than crap, it was a disgraceful picture of the state of American politics. Not a single question was directly answered, whether it was "What would your punishment be for an abortionist doctor?" (Except Ron, who offered something of an answer) "Would Jesus be in favor of the death penalty?" to "What would you do about Infrastructure?" The most sound-bite filled, substance less debate of human history, idiocracy in its purist form.
Yes, it was historic...as were the actual debates, one of which was held here in Tennessee - at Belmont University. The turnout for Obama was literally 500 times as many people as for his opponent.
The debates were the best and surprisingly, when on without a hitch. I hope Youtube can hold more of these political debates in the future, but not just for presidential elections for for senatorial and congressional elections, including mid-term elections. Please consider expanding this program in the future.
Yea, agreed these debates were an important part of the political process, but true, they should be on youtube every year and not just in presidentials
st each other. I understand that timing is critical in a broadcast like this and there was a desire to pose as many questions as possible, but perhaps a themed debate would work. We do have almost a year and a half left before we even vote...there is plenty of time for debates focusing on one or two topics.http://wendysreplica.com/blog/ I m

ReplyDeleteBilliam the Snowman pwned the debate.
ReplyDeleteBilliam/Obama '08!!!!!!
Kucinich, for he's the only one with the Kahones' to motion to impeach Cheney.
ReplyDeleteI found the format of this debate very interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs for commentary on the responses themselves:
Clinton's response regarding meetings with dictators was seemed like a very intelligent and well thought out answer and was highly effective at showing not only her "follow through thinking," but also Obama's naivte' on international diplomacy that is so crucial today. She is a strong person and very direct and straight forward in the way she speaks, which is something we need. I read comments that more or less stated that she came across as cold and devoid of enthusiasm and that Obama and Edwards were much more "engaging." To this I must ask do we want a president that is a fun speaker to watch or do we want one that states information clearly and concisely and who shows the kind of strong will it takes to really achieve things in government
That said, Kucinich hit the nail on the head in stating that all we need to do to stop the war is to stop funding it and that we don't need to wait for a new president in order to facilitate change. Even if you choose not to vote, that choice will affect you.
sorry for that being a bit long :p
ReplyDeletesorry for that being a bit long :p
ReplyDeleteCNN must not be allowed to select which videos are chosen for the debate. This gives the news media a chance to tweak the debate however they see fitting to their agenda, and indeed the candidates had unbalanced amounts of speaking time. When Obama is allowed to speak four time longer than Gravel, it's obvious there is some favoritism going on that is not necessarily of the people.
ReplyDeleteFor this to be a truly democratic event, YouTube users should be able to select which of the videos make the cut.

ReplyDeleteWe thought the video questions were much better than the ordinary debates;however, as usual, Anderson's own bias was present in the video selection and in his arbitrary picks about who answered what. We think a balanced group of people should select questions and there needs to be some balance of fairness for the debaters. We think Anderson Cooper should be more of a journalist and less of an editor.
ReplyDeleteWhat a disappointment...nothing but the same ol same ol with the novelty of technology!
ReplyDeleteI found it quit interesting however tho I would pull our troops out as soon as possible enough is enough, and if any terrorist attack us either here or abroad the united states should attack at once at there heartland and show them we are not fooling around anymore if so be wherever the terrorist are hiding or whatever country is hiding them .that country should be bomb at once war is war this hit and run is for the chickens.if they want war lets show them what we got .innocent people must die to prove a point what is war a game? war is war and people must die to end it once and for all
ReplyDeleteThe DNC clearly wants a Clinton/Obama ticket for '08. I Think they have been setting that up from the beginning. Why do we even have debates??? We already know who our next pres and vice is going to be!
ReplyDeleteI watched the democratic debate and was surprised at how many questions were focused on race.
ReplyDeleteIt's very telling that Hillary Clinton was unable to turn to her left and say "one nice thing" about Barack Obama when every other candidate was able to do so. It was disappointing and spoke volumes about her character, or lack thereof. As a voter and a woman, I will not vote for her - I think it is in the small moments when we show our true colors most
ReplyDeleteExcellent format...however, once again, we are missing the "debate" portion of the debate.

ReplyDeleteCan't be anymore impressed with the work CNN/YOUTUBE did. Some videos were absolutely hilarious and well thought. I can't wait for the Republican debate!
ReplyDeleteThey should have let the 5,000 people on Community Counts pick the questions, not 3 editor people.
ReplyDeleteMy question was featured in Newsweek, Mercury News, Chicago Public Radio, it was the 1st most popular for 2 weeks, currently 2nd, and was it asked?
ReplyDeleteSorry about that, got an error and then hit post again, it must have worked the first time.

ReplyDeleteIt hardly matters how you ask the questions or whether they are delivered via video or Pony Express.
ReplyDeleteWhy was there no question about, and no mention whatsoever of, the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, possibly the single most important issue in Middle East politics? Why was there no question about, and no mention of, the wildly inordinate influence of the pro-Israel lobby over U.S. Middle East foreign policy, possibly the single most important issue regarding U.S. Middle East foreign policy?
ReplyDeleteThe CNN/YouTube debate is, apparently, as carefully sanitized and filtered to suit the demands of "the Lobby" as every other function of Big Media.
In your dreams, perhaps.

i thought the presentation was stunning. It was a priviledge to watch history in the making. this just leaped us light years into the future of how america will conduct politics. the disconnection between candidate and average citizen is repaired. thanks alot Youtube for making me apart of this!
ReplyDeleteThis is how a debate should be conducted. The candidates are asking for our votes so we should be asking the questions. I can't wait to see how the Republicans handle this format.
ReplyDeleteWhy was Barac Obama able to talk as long as he wanted but people like Hillary and Dennis kucinch werent????interesting to me that CNN SELECTIVELY picked out tough /insulting questions for only Hillary Clinton!!yet she still gives the best answers and in my opinion and many others won yet another debate!if your going to have another debate like this which btw didnt really work and was all over the place!!you need to not only pick on Hillary and Edwards but All the canidates need to get tough /personal questions!!it was pretty lopsided,I thought Dennis ,Hillary Joe Biden ,and Chris Dodd did the best!!Barac Obama once again never really asnwers the questions!and is the most abstract canidate ive ever seen.I wish someone would ask him a TOUGH question for once!because as it is he fumbles through the easy ones!!Over all I think Hillary Clinton won!!but this format does not work!
ReplyDeleteA very interesting television format. Of particular interest was that the canidates were not prepared like in other major debates. You have to be quick on your feet. Don't know how this would work in debating detailed policies in order for the electorate to make an informed decision.

ReplyDeleteThis format didnt work!!!why were certain canidates(Barac Obama)able to go on for hours like that, the guy dosent say anything substantial!!!Hillary was attacked like usual from young, dumb youtubers!!she still managed to come out on top though!CNN is so biased!!!they SHOULD NOT be allowed to edit and pick and choose that sucks!!And other canidates barely got to speak!! i thought this format sucked!!
ReplyDeleteI think the format was good for a start.
ReplyDeletePeople who cannot figure out how not to double- and triple-post their comments here should not be allowed to vote. I have spoken!

ReplyDelete#1 POST INFORMATION ABOUT THE PERSON PROVDING THEIR YOUTUBE COMMENT -->
- Age, Sex, Religion, Nationality, Sexual preference. Or at least basic info like
- Are they a registered Voter?

ReplyDeleteWho saw the article from Madaline Albright (Clinton Camp) talking about Obamas statement about meeting with International Leaders who hate America --> "SPADEWORK" ... SPADE ... get it?
ReplyDeleteGreate question about Minimum wage.
ReplyDeleteOnce again it is editortube that determines what we users see. It would be sooo good to have a newtube like the original YT was.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing that politicians talk about the same issues every election campaign season and people are like dumb "%^# that still applaud to it.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is wrong with the subscriptions?
ReplyDeleteWell, you can complain about the sorry state of American politics, or you can get drunk and groove to the latest video by Only Ed and The Almost: "She Stole My Beer." Clean, crisp, beechwood aged, never gassy, always "just right!" It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfNQUX0R_ds
ReplyDeletethis shit is gay ass hell 4real yo SHIT PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteThis was not an innovative debate at all; Kucinich and Gravel were forced to the margins and prevented from talking just like the mainstream ones (but not the superior pbs debate.) The time limits, in addition, were pathetic; let them go on as long as they want to, they will be in office for four whole years! Otherwise, how disgusting those pathetic, religous, homophobic hypocrites are! And hillary clinton called herself a progressive! Someone throw a dictionary at her...
ReplyDeleteQuestion 2 is mislabeled. In addition to Obama, Senator Chris Dodd, not Joe Biden, responded to the question.
ReplyDeleteI agree this was NOT the best format, you didnt really get to see anyone actually DEBATE!
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice to hear ALL the candidates responses to the questions, not just the top 3.
ReplyDeleteEven though citizens sent in video questions, the moderators still picked the questions they wanted asked (and the ones they didn't.) It's an illusion of democracy. The day I see someone ask a candidate what they think about the power the Israel lobby holds over Washington on a national debate I'll revise my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI never got to watch it :( I wish youtube would upload it and feature it, so I can see.
ReplyDeleteThe CNN/YouTube debate was a joke and sadly it treated the very audience it supposedly aimed at gaining viewer ship from as if we didn't really know anything about politics. As for any fault with Youtube, I would say it was due to the lack of control youtube had in the debate. CNN on the other hand presented it in a very whorish fashion typical of mainstream media. I would only hope that next time the questions asked will not be chosen by CNN.

ReplyDeletei agree with sherimoonluv Kucinich is a bright guy, is articulate and has good ideas but the media won't let him speak. I blame editortube for everything including, but not limited to, earthquakes, bad weather and high gas prices.
ReplyDeleteI agree with so many others here in regards to a select few got all the time they wanted and yet others got no time at all. Also to call this a debate is wrong as well. Nobody debated anything, it was a basic and simple Q&A period.
ReplyDeleteI think that the questions which were chosen could have been a lot better and more "non-mainstream". Notice no questions were raised over the illegal immigration issue which is plaguing the US!!!
I also agree with the fact that there should be a microphone kill switch. You get "X" amount of time and then dead air....next question!!!!!
Just my two cents.........
HMMMM. I must state that the debate was a waste of my time
ReplyDeleteThe CNN/YouTube debate stunk!!!It was SO damn boring!!and I agree with alot of you on here Barac Obama is given so much time to ramble on and he comes off very GREEN!One question that showed this was his answer on being so eager to run around the world and meet every world leader,WRONG answer Barac!Hillary had the best answer on that and she really is the best and brightest, hey im a guy and I have the balls to admit it!!you really see it in these debates! She just plain and simple shows the rest up,you cant outmatch her intelligence!but as others have said I do like Dennis Kucinich and he is my second choice,Chris Dodd is not bad either.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good first start, but I would like to see lots of changes on the CNN side.
ReplyDeleteIt really bugged me that some of the questions were aired solely to show just how Hip CNN was.
ReplyDeleteHaving the Fake Rednecks video air with a softball question, as well as the other videos selected to get a laugh felt to me that this was more about pandering to the 18-34 demographic than anything else.

ReplyDeletethis was NOT a good debate to me!!the questions were really puff!!we need someone in there asking questions of substance so we can all see that canidates like Barac Obama have no substance!!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest letting people vote on at least SOME questions - CNN would have to let those 5 highest rated questions in.
ReplyDeletehi baby koh i love you,,i like this song ..
ReplyDeleteTypical, Democrat liberals giving typical liberal responses to mostly trivial questions.
ReplyDeleteAmerica's most famous girly-man, John Edwards, favored us with a fashion statement. That was strictly PEOPLE magazine stuff.
I wonder if the Republican Q&A session will be as fluffy. I'm betting it will be a much more serious affair. I hope to hear something of substance with that one.
The more Democrat liberals try to demonstrate their senses of humor, the more they show us they really have none. It's kind of pathetic, really.
ReplyDeleteIf President Bush wasn't on the popularity skids and the Republicans had a surefire candidate, none of the Democrat kids would stand a chance to be elected president. As it stands now, the presidency is theirs to lose. But, it's early in the game and the Democrats have a losing track record. Even when it looked like a sure thing.
ReplyDeleteThe powers that pull the strings of the Democrat party seem to favor Obama at this point.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, one more thing..during Viet Nam, we lost more soldiers in one month than during this whole Iraq thing.. The younger generation is an instant pudding generation. They want it NOW.
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of returning soldiers don't want to be there, but they believe leaving too soon would be very bad for this country..
I wish the candidates had covered that a little better.

I don't like that CNN gets to choose the videos. They should be decided per rating or voting on Youtube. And although some questions were very good, the answers remained mostly the same standard ones...
ReplyDeleteoh and show the videos on the huge monitor in fucking full screen mode!!!
ReplyDeletewhere's your last blog post yesterday?
ReplyDeleteI would like to see that videos that are removed due to use violation. Most of those would be better than what's on.
ReplyDeleteI think it is hypocritical of Barack Obama to make the statement that his Christian beliefs value the seperation of church and state.
ReplyDeleteOur true patriots would be turning over in their graves if they saw that circus on CNN.
With over 40 percent of Americans in favor of impeachment, why didn't that question get asked ?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't where else to ask this, but why is YouTube manipulating the search-engine? When I do a search on Olbermann, the newest videos are 2 days old, though for instance the item with Gen. Wesley Clark was posted yesterday with the tag "olbermann".
ReplyDeleteYoutube is no longger the youtube we knew. it is no longer responsive to users. It is now editortube and is responsive to corporate advertisers. We need a newtube just like the original YT. Remember how good it was?
ReplyDeleteI think they chose some great questions, and it was a historical event.
ReplyDelete-Josh
This is totally unrelated to this post, but I didn't know where else to ask. It could be just on my end but it seems searching for any keyword on youtube by "date added" hasn't been bringing any new results for the past 2 days, any search I do brings the same result, the newest results showing uploaded 2 days ago.

That 20 years, ellect Hillary Clinton for 4 years and we have almost a quarter of a century with this great country being ran by two familys. Surely there are more familys then these two who can produce a president.
We have to stop their Dynasties
1. CNN should never have been allowed to select the questions, they could have been by rating or first come first serve basis.
ReplyDelete2.
ReplyDeleteIt's a dopey format. I don't blame the Republican's who don't plan on attending the debate. It's a complete waste of time getting questioned by a 5 year old, who isn't old enough to vote, let alone think for themselves.
ReplyDeletemelimoni7 you're an idiot.
ReplyDeleteI thought the format was good. I thought it was very interesting though that even still the politicians were not good at addressing the questions. I thought if anybpdy actually did consistently adress the questions they would do well in this format.
ReplyDeleteWhy not have Hilary as president, Obama as VP., John Ed. as sec. of state, and joe B. as another cabinet member? Why must they "fight" for the top position? Better yet, why don't they pool their talents and make an outstanding team of Democrats that can really make a change for the US and other world leaders?
ReplyDeletethe format was not good but as you said that was the first time using it, i expect a better during the republican debate. I think Hilary did well. she will be a good president.
ReplyDeleteThe Red State Update in which the two guys from Tennessee ask the candidates was nothing more than a cheap shot. Directv which has a channel called 101 airs the Red State Update.
ReplyDeleteThat my friends just proves how much we the public don't really matter in the eyes of our elected official.s

ReplyDeletethe speaking time for the candidates was totally unbalanced and unfair. the fact that gravel hardly got to answer on any big questions is really disgraceful, its obvious that cnn are favorising certain candidates. but this doesnt really surprise me, what isnt corrupt in america today?
ReplyDeleteSHAME on u cnn
It was a little 'aimed' at the top three or so on each side....
ReplyDeleteIt could be a great thing these days, giving the voices of the nation are consumed by the internet.

ReplyDelete有什么
Ron Paul got NO airtime, what did he answer, three questions? Just more examples of the bull we put up with.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pile of shit. Ridiculous questions and for some odd reason, the SAME questions presented. Really a pile of crap.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican Debate tonight was a pile of crap. The SAME questions for some weird reason were presented on a few issues. What is the point of that?Anderson Cooper is a flake.
ReplyDeleteIt was worse than crap, it was a disgraceful picture of the state of American politics.

ReplyDeleteI would suggest letting people vote on at least SOME questions - CNN would have to let those 5 highest rated questions in.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest letting people vote on at least SOME questions - CNN would have to let those 5 highest rated questions in.
ReplyDeleteLooking back it certainly was interesting to say the least. But then again, most politics are with all of the antics and such.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was historic...as were the actual debates, one of which was held here in Tennessee - at Belmont University. The turnout for Obama was literally 500 times as many people as for his opponent.
ReplyDeleteThe debates were the best and surprisingly, when on without a hitch. I hope Youtube can hold more of these political debates in the future, but not just for presidential elections for for senatorial and congressional elections, including mid-term elections. Please consider expanding this program in the future.
ReplyDeleteYea, agreed these debates were an important part of the political process, but true, they should be on youtube every year and not just in presidentials

st each other.
