I think you folks are finally coming around to fact that communicating with users is in your best interest. This is welcome and positive step. Now if you could just convince the engineers to test their changes on a limited scope before releasing changes on the entire network I think everyone would benefit. I not prepared to thank you for giving back something you obviously took away. The excuse that "technical reasons" resulted in these problems is your typical response. Test PRIOR to making changes, then true technical issues can be resolved beforehand. Communication before changes are implemented would also be a welcome change.

Quote(Response): It was actually not our intention to take this helpful function away from you. (But you obviously KNEW or you would not have Ok'ed it, yet no one says anything for 5 days) There were technical reasons this had to happen in the short-term ("TECHNICAL RESAONS"?!? I can imagine going to my boss and saying "We're ready for that upgrade, but it's going to criple the system and piss off most of our users." I guess if I worked at YouTube he'd just say, "That's OK, we just wont say anything about it and come up with somthing later."), but the good news is that we're working hard on a solution to bring it back (It's called a BACK-UP. Restore the previous system and quit trying to split up the world community. This isn't a search engine!). More news when we have it(took 5 days to come up with this lame excuse), and thanks so much for your patience in the meantime (uh, your welcome?).

Boycott stands until they are back...whilst Im pleased that apparently the power of YOUtube still resides in with the voice of the people, this was a strike against us that we shall not forget...you've been tainted and we'll have to deal with it.

Please eliminate featured videos from receiving honors, it gives far too much an added advantage over other people's videos who are popular without the "boost".
Also, please create more categories. One specifically for religion would be awesome! Another would be a science channel.

    YouTube Team,

You are on notice. Pretty much we (your users and money makers(without us you get no adverstising dollars))need category listings back this week or YouTube will be embarrassed, belittled and will become irrelevent in a few short weeks. You have put yourself in the spotlight, with the CNN debates. Seems like if the spotlight were to move left a little we could easily see every other network covering how dedicated YouTube and Google are about free speech. Especially in China. This is Googles second cover up this week. The first being Google fussing about the restrictions some are trying to put on the net. Oh so sorry google not he restrictions you wanted. Those restrictions dont give you the leverage you need to manipulate the free creative content given to you for free to profit off of. This was nothing but a failed attempt to control freely created info. You all need to do a better job of fixing it than that poor explanation. You have lost credibility with a large portion of your users. This has pushed a large #of your users to explore alternative options and they are finding they offer better services without all this corp political BS. You need to realize that most people can see through the BS now and we will not sit and watch. We will just leave and you will be no more. This is not intended as a threat just a commentary on how MOST users feel. We are not sheep nor blind.

I will believe it when I see it.

The YouTube "team" took far too long to even address the issue and post a reply. And how embarassing that one of the so-called biggest tech companies in the world can't beta test and THEN role out changes/updates. It's rather pathetic that it took so long to post this information.

I'm not sure I'll stay here even if you do "fix" the so-called "glitch". Funny...renatto knew about the "glitch" a couple of days ago. I guess some members have more clout than others. You did a poor job of communicating with the YouTube community. Not that you care what I think. Why bother with a "feedback" option if no one reads it and responds?

If you are sincere, then you'll have this problem corrected within one or two days from today, Sat June 23, 2007. If it takes any longer, I'll just search elsewhere.

I agree with spazznout and others. YouTube as a company "manipulates the free creative content given to you... to profit from." That part was understood; you were stepping on the little guy, you were using him to get a leg-up, you reaped all kinds of benefits, and now to thank the little guy, you attempt to grind him into the dirt. Let's make it very clear: we will not tolerate this kind of treatment. Fix the problem soon or we will organize! BOYCOTTS, EDITORIALS, LIVE DEMO/PROTESTS.

I never thought the lack of categories was deliberate. Stuff happens when you update a site and sometimes it takes time to fix. Give them a break!

I'd still like to see an 'international' front page with secondary 'national' ones though. As an Australian, if I were to get a featured video (not likely but just hypothetically) on which page would it be posted? Does this mean that featured videos are only for the Irish/American/UK videos now (and the other, non-English pages?) If you could get back to us on this point it would make a lot of things much clearer to me.

    Thanks,

    Fillet

When I read "technical reasons this HAD to happen in the short-term", my fellow Tech geeks here at ".....Soft" and I cried B.S.! A Sort Link program is basic programing 101, but does have a cost (computing space and run time) to maintain and operate properly. Sounds like you dumped it on the roll out to save a few $$$ and then sat back to see if anyone would notice (sad to say a little trick done here). Guess what...WE noticed. This should be FIXED in days or something is fishy in TUBE town.

There you go YouTube that would be a great way to let us users know you are not all about corporate CENSORSHIP for profit. Expand the top vids in each category to 250 vids. This will defiantly give the impression at least that you care about the content we all provide. Show your users you have heard us and do care about your content creators. You are in a catch 22 here. You depend on the same people to generate as well as consume the product you are selling, a venue for advertising. With this business model you could collaps in weeks if you screw the balance up. It almost happened a few months back. To fix that you put a number of content creators on your payroll. That worked once but I have to tell you those few paid people provide less than 1% of the viewed content here.

WATCH 3.0 is messy and ugly, the images beside the links don't match YouTube's color scheme. The caption is hid under the video. Related videos is too simple. "USERNAME"'s channel is useless. We all can click USERNAME's username and see his/her channel.

There are kids coming to Youtube and they don't need to have porn forcefed to them. Lesbian sex, upskirts, buttocks and boobs are not what they need to see.

Really disappointed in you this time, Youtube.

However, i would ask that next time there is a significant problem like this you officially address it proptly, rather than carrying on posting with the elephant in the room...i`m sure everyone just wanted this post a few days ago, that could have been done couldnt it?

Ditto the comment below from firangi4u - view counters seem frozen. - Plus -
    a) what happened to total views for all my videos?

    b) the "beta" view page lacks a "playlist" column with the "related" amd "more from this user." It needs to come back.

Apparently YT thinks it can throw any old stuff at the millions of users and that we'll accept it; their ridiculous changes to the site are designed to attract favorable response from the corporate media to whom YT is whoring itself. These are mostly "suits" - old media types who in the grand tradition of networks and record companies think that they can make the public eat whatever garbage they serve up. A little more of this and they'll learn a major lesson in new media, as users/uploaders vote with their feet (fingers, in this case) and head for LiveVideo, DailyMotion, Veoh, and any other site that is more consumer-friendly.

Will you also be bringing back the tags in the search results? Also, regarding the proposed changes to the page where a video actually plays, I didn't see the list of playlists of which this video is a part. Either you've decided to remove it, or I just didn't look hard enough. If it's the former, I hope you'll consider putting it back. If it's the latter, I hope you'll consider positioning it so that it can be found more easily. I'm only a viewer, not an uploader.

    Hello YouTube,

I have some questions based on the comments I've read below:

    1) Will view statistics be updated retroactively? 24 hours is a long time for a counter to be down. Hopefully someone has created a retroactive job that will update accordingly based on a raw data table somewhere.

    2) If I received a "Most Watched" honor this week, will it be reflected when the fix is in production? Again, this probably can be done via script that reads a raw data table.

    3) I'm really good at Quality Assurance, especially regression testing. If you're willing to employ onsite or remotely, let's talk. Hopefully these bugs are purely a migration issue, but it doesn't sound like there was enough interface/language testing.

    Send me an e-mail.

I don't believe them. YOUTUBE says, "There were technical reasons this had to happen in the short-term" I wonder if those technical reasons are the upcoming debates involving YOUTUBE? YOUTUBE viewing is going to go way up as we approach these YOUTUBE/CNN debates. I imagine they don't like the easily accesible videos that
demonstrate the bias of mainstream media as well as any other unmentionable material for OLD MEDIA (mainstream media). These decisions by YOUTUBE also harm musicians and artists who find it impossible now to rise above all of the cute animals and paris hilton stuff. YOUTUBE claims that they are going to "fix the problem" Let's continue to let them know what we think and make plans for a boycott of YOUTUBE sponsors if they don't return categories JUST AS THEY WERE BEFORE.

I UNDERSTAND THAT YOUTUBE CAN NOT CONTROL OTHER TYPE(S) OF SPAM BECAUSE DEFINITELY IT'S NOT AN EASY ISUE, BUT COME ON HOW CAN YOUTUBE ALLOW THIS SPAM RIGHT IN ITS FACE! YOUTUBE PLEASE HIRE SOME ONE TO DO THIS JOB, IF YOU LIKE I CAN DO IT FOR FREE (NO PROBLEM), BUT PLEASE BRING DOWN THESE TYPE OF VIDEO-SPAMS AS SOON AS THEY SHOW UP, COME ON AT LEAST FROM THE MAIN PAGE(S), HOW CAN YOU ALLOW A VIDEOS WITH OVER 401,000 AND 391,000 AND 121,00 VIEWS, VIDEOS WHICH ARE NOT EVEN 1 DAY OLDER, AND ALSO WITH ZERO COMMENTS ON THEM, THAT'S AN INSULT TO YOUTUBE, AN INSULT TO THE YOUTUBE COMMUNITY (TO US), YOUTUBE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGAL DEPARTMENT, AND INSTRUCT THEM TO CONTACT THE DOMAIN OWNER(S) AND THEN WARNING THEM TO FILE A LAWSUIT FOR FOR USING A COMPUTER AGAINST YOUR COMPUTERS (COMPANY), THERE ARE DOZENS OF LAWS THAT PROHIBITS THESE TYPES OF ACTIONS, LET YOUR LEGAL DEPARTMENT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, PLEASE PUT THEM TO WORK! THANK YOU VERY MUCH YOUTUBE, WE KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TONS OF PROBLEMS, BUT THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE PROBLEM, SO PLEASE PASS THIS ISSUE TO YOUR LEGAL DEPARTMENT, I'M SURE THEY WILL KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS. THANK YOU IN NAME OF ALL YOUTUBERS!

You see YouTube Team, you removed the categories and thought that the new multi-language would disguise the move, but it's obvious that it did not, you have many people frustrated at you, and this is basically because you did not WARN beforehand your public about the changes.

Now, it's not all that bad that you guys are saying something about this but it's just too little but maybe not too late.

I really hope you get the categories back because it's a democratic way to navigate, that simple ! Whithout it we only have the YouTube editor's choice and seriously, internet is about my own choices, not somebody else's.

I'm glad that you felt the heat and I hope to see categories back because it was my favorite way to randomly navigate on YouTube.

Right... there were technical reasons? But instead of the simple and reasoned idea of saying to the userbase, "Hey our new update is going to require us to turn off categories for a few weeks until we can fix them." You remove the feature and pretend like nothing happened until your userbase revolted? Who do you have running site communications a retarded monkey?

If this goes on much longer I think Google will have to kiss its billion dollar investment goodbye. Wonder what the shareholders are going to think about that? Whatever corporate agenda you've got going here, your best bet commercially (I'm assuming that an appeal to your sense of community is a waste of time) would be to return to the old system, ASAP. Bring back the categories, ditch the country-affiliation.

Guys check this out it is a tool written by DOYUBI see posts below. It is a side browser that will sort the vids by categories and relevance for you. What a shame a single user can write the code faster than a billion dollar company. Seems to me they are a vulnerable beast ready to crack at the seams anytime now.

I don't understand the feeling that you needed to lie to us about this. Those who got a response know that you removed it thinking it would be better to make the changes you did. Just say that. We understand. Or just leave out the first two sentences of the second paragraph.

And why did you remove the link "Got Feedback?" from nearly every page? It makes it seem as though you've desided you don't want to hear from us any more. You say otherwise, so prove me wrong...Now, you've heard us and realize that we would like it back the other way, so just put it back. This isn't difficult.

And when you do, add MORE categories. How about one for "educational" and one for "religious"? Those are two subjects used quite a bit on You Tube that don't fit in any of the available categories.

Today is the 25th, how much longer will this take? Surely one week would be enough to fix a problem that you only intended to be a problem "in the short-term."

All about holding down Ron Paul. Yes, your working hard on a solution to bring it back, and to filter out Ron Paul at the same time. Technical reasons this had to happen in the short-term were you caved in to some "high up" Republican closed door bullchit. A great website has just been corrupted, time to move on all.

I've heard from a credible source that not everyone inside YOUTUBE supports this censorship. If that is you, we need you to break ranks and speak out against this corporate power grab! Of course * what has leaked out from YOUTUBE is that they are trying to control what people see because of the upcoming CNN/YOUTUBE debates. However, as you all know, this hurts musicians and independent artists most of all. STOP IT RIGHT NOW!

You guys didn't even give the new users a chance to experience the director accounts? You guys need to bring back that feature more than anything else.

A lot of people are now starting accounts on liveleak because they don't think the categories are coming back, and that youtube/google has gotten too mainstream for it's own good. Many of them speculate this category thing is a paid effort to surpress certain political candidates during the CNN feature. I hope they're wrong, it would be sad to see this community leave for less commercial pastures.
